About Ken and Fern Davey

As long time residents of the Victoria area, Ken and Fern are very familiar with the many activities and amenities available in Victoria or anywhere on Vancouver Island. Ken is an avid sports fisherman and is very familiar with sports fishing opportunities. Fern has kayaked most of the Vancouver Island and adjoining Gulf Island waters. Evidence of our enjoyment of gardening is immediately visible especially from spring through fall. As your hosts, we take our cues from you. We are happy to provide Island information and respect that some guests prefer their privacy.

Ken and Fern Davey purchased this house in 1993

Why Ken and Fern Davey chose North Saanich

The suite is located in a quiet neighbourhood across the street from a public pier that overlooks lovely Deep Cove harbour and the Saanich inlet.

What makes this house unique

The property is located in a quiet area suited to many outdoor activities as well as having easy access to restaurants, shopping, transportation (ferries/ airport) and the Institute of Ocean Sciences. Many people enjoy kayaking in the calm waters of the Saanich Inlet and we were drawn to the rural charm of the area.

Nice Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

We found everything we needed in this loft studio room. Clean, bright and comfortable with good furniture. The grounds are amazing and we'd like to come back in the warmer weather to spend more time in the yard. Ken and Fern are really nice and made sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend staying here.

Amazing Hidden Garden Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I can't express just how magical Fern and Ken's property is, or how exceptional they are at hosting guests.

Fern and Ken are like the sweetest grandparents you've ever imagined having. I'm almost certain that Fern would bring hot chocolate chip cookies up to your room if she wasn't so busy creating a garden that easily rivals the Butchart Gardens themselves. They were incredibly helpful in pointing us towards activities going on around the island, but also gave us plenty of space to decompress and disconnect on our vacation. They are really just the sweetest hosts we've ever stayed with. One of us has a gluten allergy and Fern supplied the room with gluten free bread for toast, fresh jam and butter, cream for coffee, and also gluten free cereals and milk. This extra act of kindness is what sets them apart from most other Air Bnb's.

The property will take your breath away. Make sure to take the time to walk the whole property and take in the beautiful dahlias cut straight from the garden, the artistic efforts that have taken years to cultivate, and the little wonders tucked into all the hidden corners. Breathe in the fresh air in the morning while you drink coffee with hummingbirds that will come right up to you!

The unit itself is new, impeccably clean (no dust bunnies at all!) and has everything you'd need to cook a meal, eat your leftovers, or even make a small feast. The sheets and pillows were of excellent quality. The shower never ran out of hot water. The bed is very, very firm for those who prefer it. We couldn't believe how clean everything was!

Overall we loved our stay here and will return year after year for all of the seasons!

A beautiful and comfortable spot on the island

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for a few days to cycle on the island. It was a great location from which to do some wonderful rides. Fern and Ken were excellent hosts. The place was clean, quiet and the grounds are very park like .... just beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will stay again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review, Mike! Fern and I enjoyed meeting you and watching you make full use of the cycling environment around Victoria and the Peninsula. Congratulations on completing your extremely arduous ride! Knowing that part of the country so well, we were amazed at how quickly you completed the course. We would love to keep in touch and hear about any future cycling accomplishments. Stay well and thanks again for the kind words. Regards, Ken

A quiet cottage suite in a lovely garden setting

  • 5 of 5

Fern and Ken's suite was ideal for my 16 day stay. Their place was immaculate and they provided a wide selection of breakfast items which were most appreciated. The neighborhood was quiet and only a block from the sea. Unfortunately the weather kept me from enjoying the outdoor patio and fireplace. If you are in the area definitely check out the lovely town of Sidney, which has all the amenities anyone would need including some good restaurants without all the hubbub of Victoria.

I highly recommend their cottage suite for a single traveler or a couple staying for a couple days or longer.

Gorgeous, fantastic place to stay !

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Davey residence for 4 days and nights in early April while visiting family in Victoria. The Davey property is stunning, front and back yards are gorgeously landscaped, but still natural enough to feel like you were living with Mother Nature. The suite was meticulously clean and super cute. So many extras like coffee beans and grinder, a variety of teas, eggs, yogurt, milk, cream and butter in the fridge, fruit and chocolate on the table, bread and bagels in the freezer, bbq just outside the suite, robe and slippers, and I could go on and on. The best was the jar of homemade raspberry jam, which I proceeded to eat with a spoon like dessert 😃. Ken and Fern are gracious hosts and very quiet and respectful.

We often travel to Victoria with our camper but this time decided to take a flight, so it was our first stay with the Davey's. We will definately stay there again and would HIGHLY recommend this residence. Thanks, Ken and Fern for a fantastic experience.

Lovely rural setting with an amazing yard for camp fires in the evening. The suite was perfectly comfortable and included many special touches like a fruit basket and muffins. Ken was available to provide information about the area. We will definitely stay here again!
