Rhode Island Monthly magazine ranked Touisset as one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Rhode Island.

This romantic two bedroom and one bath summer cottage is located on the pastoral Touisset peninsula, in the community known as Touisset Highlands, a small neighborhood found alongside the Kickemuit River. The home offers a fantastic water view and has easy access to the water with a public right of way path located directly across from the house (see photos). It incorporates modern details with unique custom features, blending rustic, above average finishes with the natural outdoor surroundings. The area is known for being quite exclusive and very peaceful.

The cottage offers guests a quintessential New England vacation experience with a touch of luxury. The home boasts an oversize deck that faces the water and creates a giant outdoor living space. Enjoy your morning coffee or lunch sitting at the bistro table, watching the boats go by. View the sun setting over the water while having a cocktail or dinner. Relax while lounging under the umbrellas on the new deck furniture, a large outdoor sectional sofa and club chair. Catch some sun and just unwind. If you're feeling more adventurous, hop in the kayak (2 included) or dig some native clams in one of the areas cleanest rivers!

The cottage is fully furnished and includes: one queen sized bed in the master bedroom and one twin sized bed in second bedroom, T.V. (basic cable), linens, towels, kitchen amenities, etc..

We hear it time and time again, 'The house is nicer than the photos!'. Not your typical cottage by the river-the location and amenities set the stage for an ideal summer vacation.

About Steven Bettencourt

My name is Steven and I'm an interior designer now living in Los Angeles. I've enjoyed spending the last few years renovating my cottage to reflect a sense of what ideal summer living in New England should be- relaxed, casual and in tune with nature. I've had a lifelong appreciation for the water which has influenced the design of the home, as well as the materials I've used throughout the property.

Steven Bettencourt purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Steven Bettencourt chose Rhode Island

I grew up in the house next door. Like many of my neighbors and their returning children, I've acquired a slice of heaven that retains the same environment that was so familiar while growing up. The sounds drifting off the water from the boats passing by, the wildlife that occasionally meanders through the yard and the smell of the salt air mixed with the summer sun are what make this spot in Touisset very special. Living by the water seems to be so conducive to naturally reducing stress. An ever changing view of the tides, great sunsets and the surrounding wildlife and nature are what make the cottage the perfect place to relax and decompress.

What makes this cottage unique

Ideal for a relaxing, romantic getaway or vacation home, writer’s retreat. Great for those who love nature, kayaking, sailing, swimming and boating! Experience an endless summer in New England that you won't forget. You may even be lucky enough to see deer, wild turkeys or other local inhabitants of the Touisset peninsula right in your own backyard!

Adorable cottage

  • 4 of 5

Loved the cottage! Everything you need is provided and it is exceptionally clean. Steve's Mom is very sweet and very helpful. The kayaking on the river is spectacular. The only reason it's not rated 5 stars is because it's across the street from the water not directly on.

Owner's Response: Hi Dianne, Thanks for staying with us! My mom said you both got some good use out of the kayaks. Thanks for the kind words about mom, she said you left the cottage in impeccable shape- Thank you! The listing correctly advertises the location as water-view, a term which means it is not waterfront property. But, fortunately, the large, grassy lawn directly across from the cottage still allows for a great view of the river. Hope you'll be back again next summer! Your kayaks will be in the garage waiting for you! Steven & Gerry

Beautiful! Had a great time

  • 5 of 5

Wish our stay had been longer! The cottage is lovely and very well appointed. Gerry was absolutely delightful to deal with. My son used the kayak and we relaxed on the deck! We toured the area and sampled local fare from the nearby restaurants. Thanks Steve and Gerry

Attention to detail is so appreciated

  • 5 of 5

So well designed and well maintained! It is a pleasure to stay here. This is our third year in a row! We did some kayaking, cycling, and swimming, but mostly just relaxing out on the deck!

Not for the discerning renter

  • 1 of 5

Very cute house but the only room with a view of the ocean is the bedroom which the windows open to all the neighbors seeing you in bed. Otherwise you will feel like you’re in a cave as the ceilings are low and with all the wood paneling it is very stifling. Additionally, the owner (landlord) lives out of state and will act out verbally and physically when he does not get his way. This required the police to visit on at least one occasion as he demanded $85 for a utility bill that was not yet verified. His mother lives next door and will be kind to you as long as you shovel her driveway in the winter and bring her cookies when you pay the rent. But other than pointing you to the nearest grocery store she is not the manager of this place and all real decisions must come from the owner whom as mentioned previously lives in California. Don't expect your deposit to be returned on time either as I learned- will be taking this landlord to court. Its now been almost 90 days and haven't heard anything about my deposit. The laws are very clear and he did not follow the 20 day move out law despite the fact that I cared for this home as if it was my own and left it in near perfect condition or at least exactly as I found it. Oh - one more thing...don't be fooled by this lovely picture of the sailboat - your view will not be nearly that nice unless you walk across the street and stand between two houses. This is a remote location which for peace and quiet is lovely but if you’re looking to be anywhere near anything you will be out of luck. Also - if this past summer is any indication all water access was closed due to E.coli in the river very often.

Beautiful cottage located in a quiet area near the water.

  • 5 of 5

Making reservations and payments were so easy. The cottage is absolutely beautiful. Hats off to Steven who designed it...it was simply gorgeous. We enjoyed using the kayaks provided. Gerry, Steven's mother made you feel right at home as soon as you arrived. The location was so close to places we wanted to visit as well. I can't say enough about the cottage. We will be returning hopefully next summer and would not stay anywhere else. The cottage is so nice that you could enjoy your vacation just staying in bbq, swimming and kayaking. Thanks Gerry and Steven for making our vacation wonderful. And a special thanks for the help with my O2.

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot even begin to tell you how happy my husband & I were with not only the cottage, but the overall experience.

Steve's mom Gerry lives next door, and she the kindest most accommodating person we've ever met! The sunset from the porch is breath taking. We went clam digging, kayaking, swimming, and just plain relaxed. The cottage is decorated so tastefully! I cannot say enough nice things. We will absolutely be back! Thank you Steve and Gerry! This place is a Gem!
