Casa Buena Ventura is an awe-inspiring Pedro Urquiza designed home just a few short blocks from the Jardin. Walk to virtually all of San Miguel’s wonderful restaurants, shops, bakeries and food markets.
As you enter the property, you will encounter the lovely landscaped garden highlighted by a magnificent papaya tree and calming fountain. You enter the house via the indoor/outdoor loggia, where you can open the large glass doors overlooking the garden to enjoy the San Miguel weather or close them and start a cozy fire in the winter.
Entering the living room, you will be enthralled by the beautifully stenciled 30 foot church-like ceilings and arches. The mirrored fireplace and curved staircase to the second level complete the sense of grandeur found nowhere else in San Miguel. The dining area flows smoothly from the living area and seats eight comfortably at its custom glass and cantera table. It opens to the spacious fully tiled colonial-style kitchen with copper sink and accents, outfitted with a custom mesquite island and everything a cook could want, including colonial style burners, modern refrigerator and wall ovens, and Calphalon cookware.
Upstairs, the catwalk leads you to two guest bedrooms having, respectively, an iron queen-sized draped canopy bed and an iron king-sized bed. They share a lovely bath with a tiled shower and a large ocular window for light. In addition, each guest bedroom has its own hand-carved cantera sink and mirror for the convenience of the guests. A few steps down the catwalk, just outside the master suite, is an open loft office area overlooking the living room below. The master suite features a sumptuous iron king-sized canopy bed, a custom mirrored dressing table, and a large gas fireplace providing comfort and ambiance. The master suite is completed by a large closet with built-in dressers and a large tiled double-sink bathroom with spectacular mountain views. Each of the three bedrooms features comfortable mattresses, heated mattress pads, and premium down duvets and bed linens and opens to a balcony overlooking the garden.
The rooftop sala and lounging areas provide a magnificent view of the western panorama of San Miguel and the Guanajuato Mountains, providing the perfect place for curling up with a good book or enjoying a margarita while watching the sun set. To the east is the top of the Parroquia, where fireworks displays often light the sky.
Casa Buena Ventura provides maid, cooking and gardening services three days a week and is the perfect choice for visitors to San Miguel who want a unique experience to remember for a lifetime.

My wife is a lawyer in a large Texas based firm. I am a bit of an entrepreneur and sometime inventor. We both love to travel.
The Owner purchased this house in 2011
My wife and I first came to San Miguel fifteen years ago and have been coming down from Austin every year since. We share time between our two homes. Austin for work, family and friends and San Miguel to escape from them...and the hot Texas summers.
Casa Buena Ventura is an easy five minute walk to the Jardin and the many festivals that take place in San Miguel. Restaurants and shops are literally around the corner. The thirty foot ceilings provide the grandeur for parties while the loggia overlooking the beautiful garden is the place to relax.
Besides being spectacular, also very comfortable and warm. Location was excellent. Their suggestions for nearby restaurants were spot on. Only two minor complaints/suggestions. We did not like the smell of the fabric softener they used -- permeated sheets and towels. Would suggested an unscented kind. Also more comfortable chaise lounges on rooftop would be nice. Furniture on roof was also quite dusty -- when we sat down big dust cloud came flying out. But I would not hesitate to stay there again.
We were blown away by the beauty, cleanliness and organization of this charming property just a few blocks walk from the central square in San Miguel de Allende. Conveniently located, this home is comfortable, well stocked, wonderfully decorated with artwork, charming and luxurious. Did I mention the view from the rooftop patio?! The housekeeper/cook is a wonderful and unexpected addition, as the house was kept immaculately clean and we felt pampered throughout our visit. Finally, our hosts were great in providing us with information and local contacts to facilitate the logistics of our visit. We would definitely return to this home. Highly recommended!!
Casa Buena Ventura is a truly magnificent home. From the majestic living room, lovely gardens, colonial styled kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and relaxing rooftop terrace, Casa Buena Ventura offered everything we imagined while staying in San Miguel de Allende. The local art in the home is stunning. Alicia, the gracious housekeeper and cook, provided delicious breakfasts and dinners. The location of the home is perfect for walking to many of San Miguel's restaurants and attractions. The home's owners were very accommodating before and during our trip, making sure that our every need was met. All six members of our group were amazed by the beauty and grandeur of this home. Casa Buena Ventura more than exceeded our expectations.
For sixteen days I was thrilled to live in a true art and architectural masterpiece, Casa Buena Ventura and was allowed to be its host/ caretaker and enjoy it to its fullest splendor. The experience has stayed with me since returning to reality. The other reviews on this Casa list most of its wonderful attributes. They are all true. And there are other places to rent in San Miguel which have location, luxury, charm and beautiful vernacular high boveda ceilings.
None, I am sure, can match the stunning main living area of Casa Buena Ventura with its astounding hand painted ceiling, its columns and windows which never ceased to amaze. Whether we were walking down the staircase for breakfast, or returning home after a day's outing, this gorgeous sala, my chapel, overwhelmed us. Although I had studied the photos on line, I wasn't prepared for its impact when we first arrived; and I'm not sure I will ever get accustomed to it. It's what I asked Joe, the thoughtful and responsive owner, in an email--whether it still thrills him, after all these years. He wrote back that the house surely does-- as does the city of San Miguel de Allende itself, every time they visit.
Before I left we hosted about ten friends, all homeowners in SMA, with beautiful homes in the States as well as Mexico: entrepreneur, artist, real estate developer, etc--who had seen over the years, many wonderful homes in San Miguel. I wondered particularly if my advance buildup to Jay, who develops properties in San Miguel, would be hyperbolic when I told him he had never seen anything like the main room in my house. All marveled at the beauty. They were dazzled with the kitchen, the bedrooms, the terrace--all fabulous and I'd given them short shrift, so overtaken by the central living room.
Alicia the housekeeper/chef is a national treasure. How she takes care of the place so beautifully and calmly. Because I don't speak Spanish yet, my gesticulations and an online translation app had to suffice. I explained we were having a small gathering for wine and asked could she make her (killer) guacamole and maybe another simple appetizer. When I came to the kitchen later, the most incredible spread from deviled eggs to flan was set out, a wonderful supper buffet, which delighted us all.
I've booked my Casa for next year, sending the request during my stay. Back home I watched the finale of Downton Abbey. I'll take my Mexican Casa over that place any day.
Upon entering Casa Buena Ventura, you are tranformed into another world. This home's architecture is absolutely breathtaking - as is the very carefully selected art pieces.
Everything about Casa Buena Ventura has been thoughtfully attended to. The owners are wonderful to work with...always very prompt in communication and thorough with every detail. Alicia, the housekeeper, prepared two delightful breakfasts for us - (what a treat!) and she keeps the property in immaculate condition.
We whole-heartedly recommend Casa Buena Ventura and owners without reservation. This is an exceptionally magical place for your next San Miguel visit.!
We had the pleasure of spending a week at Casa Buena Ventura. We had three couples on our first visit to SMA and the house was perfect. The rooftop terraces offered a great view of the city, the artwork was wonderful and the house staff were helpful and friendly. The owners have thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. One of our party did have an accident on the streets (very steep and cobblestone) requiring a cast and crutches so I would not recommend this house for the mobility impaired. But, if you can navigate stairs, this is the most beautiful and tranquil setting I can imagine. It is walking distance to the Jardin and many other Centro attractions. Casa Buena Ventura will be my first choice when returning to SMA.
