Fly fishing, photography, hiking, outdoor recreational dream - private custom home built in 2009 on a shared 2000 acre ranch with 3 miles of frontage on the upper Madison river. Wildlife and spectacular scenery just outside the door. In addition to great fishing access right on the ranch, the home is close to Cliff, Wade, and Hebgen lakes, and many public fishing access spots along the Madison (Three Dollar Bridge, Palisades, etc.). Stroll the quaint streets of Ennis or spend a day in the gold mining town of Virginia City. Just 45 minutes to West Yellowstone and the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Great hiking directly on the ranch, or on many of the trails into nearby public lands (Papoose Creek, Indian Creek, Bear Creek trails just to name a few). Home is sited at the edge of an alpine meadow surrounded by forest. View across meadow to the Madison range, beautiful all day and amazing at sunset. We have seen moose, bear, elk, fox, deer, and other creatures just outside the home. Our home is a great option for a family or 2 couples seeking the comforts of modern living (granite kitchen, wine chiller, hand-scraped teak floors) amid the wilderness of Montana. The custom home presents an inviting and relaxing mix of rustic and modern elements. It's not super fussy but it is new and nice. Not the kind of place where you hang a kerosene lantern on a wooden peg and clomp around in hiking boots.
Master bedroom (upstairs) has a Stearns & Foster king bed, desk, fireplace (two-sided to great room, with optional screen for privacy), private deck, views on two walls. Master bathroom suite has two sinks, toilet, and walk-in shower. There is also a TV with DirecTV service in the master bedroom.
Great room (upstairs) includes living area, fireplace, custom dining table (seats 6-8), breakfast bar, kitchen, and access to the main deck across front of house. A pair of Lazy-Boy recliners positioned near the main windows will invite you to spend the day reading or just staring at the view. Three skylights and abundant windows provide a great deal of natural light. There is a half-bathroom. The kitchen includes stove, oven, refrigerator / freezer, dishwasher, wine refrigerator, coffee maker, rice cooker, and blender. Granite countertops.
There are hand-scraped teak hardwood floors throughout the upstairs and on the stairway. Both the master bedroom and great room have high ceilings (approaching 20 feet), custom wood trusses built on site, and low-voltage lighting.
We have four comfortable swivel chairs for the main deck.
Guest bedroom 1 (downstairs) has a comfortable queen bed and views across the meadow.
Guest bedroom 2 or bunk room (downstairs) is primarily intended for kids. It has a full bed, twin bunk beds, and a twin trundle bed under the full. So it could sleep up to five, but with the trundle pulled out, there's not much free floor space. There is a large window facing interesting stone and landscaping, but not a dramatic view.
Downstairs there is a full bath with one sink, toilet, and tub/shower.
There is a TV / game room downstairs with large wall-mounted flat screen TV, DirecTV service, and DVD / blu-ray player. There are also two large dog crates (we have Rhodesian Ridgebacks).
The downstairs floor is a stained & sealed concrete slab that looks much like green marble, with carpets in the bedrooms and main area of TV / game room.
Upstairs and downstairs have independent thermostats. There is central heating and air conditioning, but the downstairs stays cool enough we virtually never turn on A/C there even in high summer.
There is a land phone line, high-speed internet (DSL), and Wi-Fi. Verizon cell phones tend to work near the river, but reception at the home itself is not reliable. AT&T seems not to serve the immediate area, but it can be picked up in the nearby towns of Ennis or West Yellowstone.
There is parking for one car in the enclosed and attached garage. One or two other vehicles can park in pull-outs off the driveway. The ranch roads and driveway are well maintained gravel.

We built a home on this ranch because it is sited on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Madison river. The home sits up on a forested bench, but down by the river the banks are gentle.

It's a 5-10 minute drive on private ranch roads to many great fishing spots. We can stroll out the front door and hike on miles of private roads and trails. Despite the remote setting, there are a good restaurant and pub (open in the summer) about 12 minutes away.
