About Dwight Herdrich
A native of Michigan, Dwight Herdrich moved to Maine in 1993 following a few years in San Diego, California, where he moved upon completion of his Masters of Architecture at the University of Michigan. After working for a few mid-sized architectural firms in Portland, Maine, Dwight joined Houses & Barns by John Libby in 1998, designing many of the beautiful homes that they have built. After an extended hiatus of pursuing projects on his own in Sarasota, Florida, Dwight returned to Maine in 2011, and continued his passion for innovating the New England vernacular, basing his firm in the Portland, Maine region. He designed and built his family's home in Falmouth Foreside in 2014. Dwight lives with his wife and three children in Falmouth, Maine, and enjoys creating and playing original music, sailing the Maine coast, fishing, boating, skiing, and exploring New England with his family.

Great place to stay, loved everything about it.
The house was great, couldn’t have asked for more!
What a great spot to rent! Every amenity you could ask for, very nice and clean rooms set up well for a group get together for a weekend. Market directly across the street is super convenient for food and beverages with a 10 minute ride to Portland. Highly recommended
great location, not real clean
we found the floors and some of the bathrooms not as clean as we would like, nice location, comfortable
We pride ourselves in having an exceptional cleaning service, so would have to respectfully disagree with the title of this review - we thoroughly inspect the home after the cleaning service is complete just to make sure everything is perfect for our guests, so are very confident that the home was in a very clean condition, and that this is not an accurate review.
Loved our stay at Dwights. Amazing location and house is charming, definitely is as interesting as billed with lots of different areas for a large family to hang out.
Nice property with a few issues
It's a beautiful house, and it worked well for our family. We loved the pool and all the little nooks and crannies of the house. Unfortunately, we had a few issues. First, the video on the VRBO listing 100% shows that there is a hot tub outside. It turns out, there isn't. So that video needs to be updated. To be fair, the listing does not say that there is a hot tub, but once we saw a hot tub in the video, we did not go back and make sure the listing supported everything we saw in the video, as I would expect most people wouldn't. We had asked the owner about this ahead of time, and all he said was that there never was a hot tub. There is clearly one in the video, so I'm not sure what that was all about. The listing also states that there is a kayak on site, but it turns out it has no paddle so there really isn't a useable kayak on site. The listing also states that there is a fireplace in the game room...well, we saw no game room, so it must have been behind one of the doors marked Private. We just feel like the listing details and video need to be updated to reflect the true features of the property. We also found ants in the kitchen, the kitchen garbage lid was kind of broken, the freezer had not been properly cleaned, the master bath tub handle was broken so we had a hard time turning off the water, the patio doors didn't properly close (you could just push them open, even with the pad lock), and the speakers on the TV stopped working properly the last day we were there. We just felt that this place was very overpriced for what it was. I had to reach out to the owner to get entry details, which I thought was strange. I also didn't like that we had to pay $100 in Renters Insurance...we've never had to pay that at any VRBO before. I was irritated to have to pay that on top of the expensive price. All in all, we liked a lot about the house, but we had our share of issues so we won't be returning.
We had explained to the guest several times that there never was an outside hot tub, nor a description of one, so not sure how that was ever an issue - there also has never been a description of a fireplace, so we are guessing that this was an issue with a third party website instead of HomeAway, where we are actually listed. The HomeAway photos and description are extremely clear, and we are literally booked every day of the summer, with guests absolutely loving the house, and giving us 5 star ratings - it's unfortunate there was a misunderstanding somehow in this case, as 3 stars for this house is clearly not appropriate. The guest never contacted us during their stay with any of the other minor issues, and if they had, we would have addressed them immediately, as we always do, which can be seen in the other 5 star reviews here. We pride ourseleves on a very unique and well maintained property built as a private resort for all who visit.
Great house in a great neighborhood
Dwight is a great host. He was attentive, informative, and friendly (through emails and texts). The house was beautiful, very spacious, and clean. Please be aware that you are connected to other inhabited apartments, and the house is not free-standing. The pool and backyard were great, all set up with cornhole toss and a fire pit that we didn’t get a chance to use. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, except lobster crackers, which we bought and left 4 sets for the next visitors. :) Check in/out was easy and the house was ready for us earlier than planned. The little store across the road is adorable, although a little pricey.
My rating is 4 stars instead of 5 because the pictures showed an outdoor hot tub and we had been planning on it for over 6 months. Until I questioned Dwight about a week prior to our arrival, we didn’t know there had never been a hot tub, although it was in the pictures. This was disappointing. Also, the fact that the house was connected to other apartments was not clearly stated in the description, which wasn’t a huge deal for us, but may be for some people.
We stayed for a girls trip for 5 days, but could have easily stayed for two weeks!
