About Carol Hemphill

Hi, we're Alan and Carol Hemphill. We live in the tranquil foothills of NC about 1 hour south of our mountain property. We have 2 lovely daughters, 4 dogs, and 3 cats. Carol is a corporate trainer in the financial industry; Alan is the proud owner of The Fresh Depot Restaurant located in Hickory, NC, and an eBay store listed as cookwareconnection.

Carol Hemphill purchased this house in 2011

Why Carol Hemphill chose Mill Ridge

We love this area for its scenic beauty and array of recreational, educational, and cultural activities and events. From the peaks of Grandfather Mountain, to the depths of Linville Gorge and Caverns, there's just no place like it on Earth. Come find out for yourselves.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the quiet majesty of the mountains in a community setting. The neighborhood hiking trail, swimming pool, and tennis court are a stone's throw from our driveway. The best ski slopes in NC are 10 minutes away. The first stay at our house was Thanksgiving 2011. The greatest thing about our house is it provides one place for such a large group, which gave us all the chance for more family time. Parents with little children don't have to go back to their hotel room and stay with the little ones. We had 17 and this was the first year we all got to stay in one location. The kitchen works great, with one range and one cook top, enough 'eyes' for our short order breakfasts. Toaster and toaster oven producing bagels and toast. while the Keurig and a 14 cup coffee maker woke us all up. The three 80 gallon water heaters made sure there were no cold showers. The cousins that don't get to spend as much together time as we did when we were little really got some quality time together. So what makes our house so unique isn't even there. It is in all the cars that pull up and unload your family. Then the most wonderful family experience begins!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi again! I wanted to find out what mattresses you have at your Clubhouse residence? I was just there a few weeks ago and I swear, I haven't had a good nights sleep since. I slept in the first bedroom on the right when you come up the front stairs.

The perfect weekend!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time this past weekend celebrating my mother's 60th birthday. The house was spacious and located in a beautiful community. The only issues noticed we're that even with the thermostat up to 68 the room directly to left of the front stairs on the top floor was still very cold. When going up the stairs the room opposite to you and just to the right had a very small hole at the bottom of the tub. The room directly to the left of the stairs on the bottom floor was cold until we figured out the small window in the bathroom was stuck open and has a broken hinge. Lastly, the fridge didn't keep cool, not even in the nighttime when there was no one open and closing it alot.

Truly, my family and I loved the cabin and are very grateful we got to spend time there. Thank you for sharing your home with us Carol!

Perfect place for us Lees McRae College alumni to spend 4 days. This is our 3rd visit to this house and not our last! We love the fact that every bedroom has it's own bath. Plenty of gathering space and a great kitchen!!

Perfect for large groups!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this property several times. The privacy of each bedroom having a bath is a huge asset. The kitchen/dining area allows everyone to eat together. Also plenty of parking. It remains the favorite of our group.

Outstanding, exactly what we were looking for and as advertised.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our group of 23 college athletes, especially with a bathroom for each bedroom. We enjoyed it and plan to be back next summer.

Great house for group trips

  • 5 of 5

The house is really setup well for big groups. Lots of space inside, tables that seat 10 and 8 people inside plus a picnic table outside. Big living rooms for hanging out inside. Awesome wrap around front porch and back porch has a fireplace and good chairs. The kids in our group loved the big backyard. Nice neighborhood too so kids can roam around a bit. There is also a nature trail entrance at the driveway.

The house has some wear and tear, lightbulbs out, CD player circa Clinton Administration, and things like that. A few bed mattresses seem well past their prime. But to be expected for this price and inline with big group accomodation.

Neighborhood is well located - 15 minutes to boone, 20 to valle crucius and grandfather mountain is nearby. Would definitely come back again for a big group trip, especially with kids or for a ski trip.

Perfect for our family cousin reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had 16 adults for a short weekend. Having this many rooms with individual bathrooms was perfect. The dens and family areas are large enough to hold the whole group as we laughed, talked, and shared old childhood memories. We will definitely go back. Perfect house for our group.
