Great house with great views

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved our stay here. It was the perfect size for my family. The views were wonderful and very convenient to the beach. The house was clean and well furnished.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Jane's Joy. The house fit 4 couples and a few small children. It was like our own private getaway. It gives a feeling of seclusion even though you are close to everything. We made use of the beach, pool, tennis courts and kayaking on the river and inter coastal.

The bathrooms were clean. That is one thing I have to have.

Jane's Joy fit the bill for what our family needed.

Great house in quiet location with easy access to beach

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was great. The house is set up well but could use some updating in certain areas. The house is well maintained but the bushes and shrubs surrounding the house have over grown somewhat and it made parking difficult, not impossible. Really the issue was getting out of the car once you parked as you were in bushes.

Some of the other things we saw were: The dryer took 2-3 complete cycles to fully dry clothes. We had some issues with the smoke detectors alarming (not low battery chirp) but no reason for alarm to sound. One detector was already removed as it had been doing the same thing from a previous tenant. Some TV's had been upgraded but a few were older and on their last leg and may need updating soon. The house could use some fresh paint in areas like the kitchen and main room.

All in all those were the only problems and fairly minor and easy to get around/over look. The house was very clean, kitchen well stocked, bedrooms clean and bathrooms all in working order/clean.

Easy walk to the beach through the public access. Quiet area of the beach and the gated access provides safe place for kids to ride bikes or walk down the street. The pool was great and a nice change of pace for the kids.

We booked again next year and look forward to our return trip to Jane's Joy!

This place has it all (even an elevator)!!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent five nights in Jane's Joy and loved it all. Our family included 9 people (two grandparents, two married adults & spouses, one single adult and 2 grand-children). We had plenty of room to spread out into the five bedrooms.

While Jane's Joy is would be considered a "second row" house with regards to distance from the beach, it really feels like a "first-row" or beach-front house. The access to the beach is very close. We didn't use the neighborhood pool, basketball court or tennis courts. We would probably have used the tennis courts, but there were no nets strung (and we had lots of other things to do).

The extra refrigerator located on the bottom level was an unexpected (and well-used) surprise. Also, the closet full of beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, and some toys) was unexpected. There are plenty of chairs left by previous renters to accommodate most families.

The house is delight to live in from the bedrooms to the well-equipped kitchen and really nice china set. There are at least four flat-screen TVs in the house (in addition to some old-fashioned TVs) for those who might consider that an issue. Since we never turned on a TV during our stay, it was not an issue. The only issues we had were the continuing problem (mentioned by a previous renter) with the linens not matching the beds. However, we were able to "make do", so we consider this a minor problem. Also the heat on the dryer seems weak, and could probably use some maintenance (or a replacement).

We are already trying to re-book for next year!!!

Wonderful vacation at Jane's Joy!

  • 5 of 5

I just got home from a week vacation at Holden Beach and could not wait to write this review! The house was wonderful and Jane was very accommodating. She was very attentive to our needs and responded quickly to any requests. There were 5 couples, 4 toddlers, and a 5 year old in our group and we were very comfortable in this home. A previous review said that the king bed was terrible. My husband and I slept on it and found it to be very comfortable. We also read in that review that the linen situation was unpleasant, so we brought some of our own towels and sheets just in case. When we arrived, we found an abundance of linens. The living/dining/kitchen area is large with amazing views from every window. The wrap around porches were fabulous and had an abundance of seating. The walk over to the beach was very close that we almost felt like we were ocean front and the views definitely made us feel like we were ocean front! The pool was an easy walk and when we didn't want to walk, we just loaded everyone up and were there in two minutes. We also enjoyed the basketball and tennis courts. The house was well stocked and very homey. A previous reviewer complained about the televisions not being flat screens. They are definitely dated, but no one in our group had a problem using them and, seriously, I can watch tv at home! This home was very reasonably priced for what you get. I highly recommend it! Also, Holden Beach is very nice and has some very nice restaurants. We went to Calabash one evening and wished we had stayed at Holden! Two favorites: Mermaids Island Grill(very good lunch) and Main street grill (great breakfast!!!)
