About Michael White

This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique. We also have friends who stayed with us who, after experiencing the area, purchased land and built a vacation home nearby (VRBO #865183).

Why Michael White chose Swannanoa

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.

What makes this house unique

Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful! Lots of extras to make us feel at home. Only request would be extra bath towels especially considering there is a hot tub. Minor inconvenience - we would be definitely come back!

Gorgeous views!

  • 5 of 5

We went with three couples to Asheville this past week and this house was perfect! The hot tub was super clean, the house was immaculate and the views were amazing! It was a little further from downtown than we originally thought but we had no problem getting Uber and Lyft drivers to take us to and from downtown Asheville for dinners at night, the drive was about 20 minutes. The first night we had snow flurries and still had no problem getting to and from the house in our friends rented mini van. Communication with Michael was great and the home had all of the dishes and linens we needed. We also loved the ping pong table in the basement! Such a great set up for 3 different couples!

Perfect all the way around

  • 5 of 5

The house perfectly accommodated three couples with complete amenities, full bath in each bedroom, and even some recreational distractions including ping pong and a hot tub with a top 10 view. Accessible to Asheville and Black Mountain but far enough removed to truly get the full mountain experience. Would definitely return.

Amazing mountain retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This home is so beautifully done and really thinks about their guests. Every thing was easy to find and instructions were very clear, making it easy to work the entertainment systems and hot tub. The beds were comfortable and the private en suites were great for couples. The kitchen is well designed and the double ovens made making breakfast and dinner a breeze! Finding it at night was a bit tricky, and would recommend not taking up a low riding car. The directions that Michael emailed before checking in made us feel more comfortable in finding the place!

Getting to Asheville is also easy! We drove down to the Ingles to call an Uber / Lyft to make it easier on the driver and also cut down on the price of the ride.

We hope to stay here again in the future!

Amazing view, lovely home upnin the mountains. Great for three couples.

  • 4 of 5

The place had a phenomenal layout, nice amenities, and an incredible view. The hot tub was a centerpiece of our weekend experience. Decent sized kitchen to cook meals in with adjacent dining room. Beds were really great even know the pillows are a little thin. Great view of the mountains at all hours. Getting to the place can be a challenge given the Windee gravel roads. Overall, a great experience.

An amazing home for a weekend escape to the mountains of Asheville

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible time at the property and the pictures definitely don't do the place justice. The only challenge we had was getting an Uber / Lyft to head downtown as the property is in a relatively secluded area outside of Asheville.

The amenities were fantastic! Wi-Fi was strong and the stereo setup was perfect and so easy for us to enjoy... Would definitely consider staying here again on our next visit...

PS - Light switch controlled fireplace!? Yes please!
