About Tom & Dawn

My wife of 27 years and our 4 grown children enjoy our mountain getaway.

Tom & Dawn purchased this house in 2008

Why Tom & Dawn chose Lake James

I've been fly fishing for trout in western North Carolina for over 30 years, this area is one of the most beautiful valleys surrounded by mountains I have seen, and I have always wanted to find the perfect place in this area for our family and friends to enjoy the mountains.

What makes this house unique

So close to everything: fishing, hunting lands border our land, have seen deer, bear, and turkey on property, the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed from 3 locations just minutes away, the Linville Gorge is spectacular and has hiking trails that lead right down to our place. A Beautiful golf course is about a mile away. The history of one of the most pivotal battles in the American Revolution, the Battle of Kings Mountain, brought the patriot forces marching literally up the road we are on and then up the mountain behind our land, creating what is now the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. We sit on our decks and look across at the mountains which contain 18 railroad tunnels created by the Clinchfield RR, called the Clinchfield Loops, which to this day takes trains up and over (and under) the Blue Ridge Parkway and the mountains.

My family had a great stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very nice and comfortable. It was a rainy weekend in the mountains but the cabin was well equipped with games, game room and movies which kept my 4 teenaged sons entertained! Would visit again and would recommend to friends!

Owner's Response: We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our mountain home. Our 4 young adult children loved this house as teens exploring the woods, having big bonfires on the top of the mountain and playing frisbee, cornhole and horseshoes in the large front yard. Of course, they still love it as young adults, but now they can drive and go visit linville falls, the local winery up the road and area attractions. I always love the quality family time we share here without the interruption of electronics. Amazing how children will open up and find boundless ideas of things to do in the great outdoors. Thank you for visiting us. Hope you join us again! Tom and Dawn

Incredible incredible home!! Very beautiful and in a great location. Had the time of our lives!

  • 5 of 5

BY FAR one of the best homes we have ever stayed in. Me and a group of friends rent homes about once a month and this was our favorite one we have ever had. Beautiful views and very beautiful on the inside! Was more than enough for us!

it feels like home

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay when coming to the mountains...located right between a decent size town and some great activities. The home owner is so helpful and nice. If you have a large group of people this is the place for you. Tons of space! Plenty of wood for some great fires...recommend the hike to the top of the property to see all of the amazing views.

Awesome Christmas

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time, even if the weather did not help… the kids had no choice but to leave the phones since there is no connection and no reception (unless you have Verizon). The house is SUPER WELL Equipped with games, movies and activities. Excellent kitchen with good pots and and, cooking utensils, etc. Asheville is only 40 min away, cute town. The Linville caverns are very nice and only 15 min away, and Linville Falls worth the hike to every point. We also hiked in an orchard nearby. Everything was perfect. If I had to give one negative is that the water presure in the bathrooms is low. If you flush you do not shower :) but in the kitchen is OK.

Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this beautiful mountain home and enjoyed every minute inside and outside the home. While relaxing in the home, we had everything we needed and felt extremely comfortable in every room. We loved sitting on the front porch and looking at the view and discussing our plans for the day. Each day we ventured out to Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mountain, The Altapass Apple Orchard, and several waterfalls. It was a wonderful experience for our family.
