Welcome to the majestic Big Bear Lodge nestled in the rolling hills of the Smoky Mountains. This 6 bedroom, 6.5 bath grand cabin sleeps 12 comfortably on 3 different levels. All bedrooms have a full-sized private bathroom attached and sattelite TV. The cabin is beautifully decorated with the smallest details tended to. BE SURE TO SPEND DECEMBER WITH US AS OUR CABIN IS BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON. TWO LARGE CHRISTMAS TREES ON THE MAIN FLOOR AND LOWER LEVEL LIVING AREAS ARE SURE TO GET EVERYONE IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!

The main level has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings and a spectacular wall of windows for all to enjoy. The fully stocked gourmet kitchen and large dining area open up to the living room. The main floor also features a full-sized washer/dryer for your convenience. There are two bedrooms on the main floor, a room decorated and catered toward kids which features a queen sized bunk-bed and a crib for the littlest traveler. Across the hall is a large bedroom with a full-size handicap accessible bathroom. A large wrap-around deck encompasses the entire cabin with numerous rocking chairs, two large picnic tables and a swing.

The best feature of the lower-level is that it doesn't feel like a basement at all! Also an open floor plan, this level has windows along the length of the outer walls and high ceilings. The living area entertains a Pool Table and wet bar with mini-fridge and large entertainment area with a 48' flat screen satellite TV to enjoy from your comfy leather sofas. There is a large deck off the lower-level with plenty of rocking chairs to relax in or take a dip in the hot-tub. There are three spacious bedrooms in the lower level.

The third floor houses the grand master suite. This oversized master suite is the ultimate in romance with a private fireplace, private balcony and jacuzzi tub.

About Staci Helman-Smith

Welcome to our home away from home, Big Bear Lodge!

We are farmers from northeast Indiana who found our favorite retreat in the mountains of Tennessee more than 25 years ago. Since then, we have been vacationing here each year with our children and later, our grandchildren too. After years of renting, we decided to find a cabin of our own, to be able to add our own personal touches, and make it 'ours' when we gather for holidays.

Each room was decorated and named by different members of our family. Our master bedroom is the Suite Retreat. Each of our three children decorated their rooms - The Bear Cave, Moose Den and Majestic Hideaway. The entire family decorated the John Deere room, a nod to our livelihood, and the M&M room is for our grandchildren.

We hope that you enjoy the cabin as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just wanted to tell you and your folks that we had a wonderful time last week. The cabin is just great and so well outfitted! It worked for my family beautifully--the 3 couples all had their own space, my granddaughters enjoyed the bunk room, my bachelor son did well in the John Deere room, and the family voted me into the upstairs suite--way too big for me but, heck, a little luxury now and again is OK!

We all took a night to make dinner with one reserved to eat all the leftovers. I decided I'd take everyone out on our last night to avoid my cooking assignment and we had a great time at the Crystelle Creek Restaurant keeping the singer busy with our requests. I lost track of how many times my younger granddaughter added to the singer's tip jar! My one son elected to do Pizza on his night and we had been kidding him about him having to go out and finding a takeout miles and miles away! And lo and behold you clued him into a resource for DELIVERY! . We could not believe a driver would head up into those hills! We're lucky at home if a driver will go more than a mile on the straight!

This trip had an element of deja vu for me. More years ago than I care to admit, my husband and I took our 3 oldest kids to the Smokey Mountains areas of NC and TN and I always thought it would be great to return--and we never did. Sooooooo, when I decided to take the whole family on a week's vacation (we've never had this much time all together since my oldest got married 20 years ago!) it seemed like an option--if we could get everyone with a week available at the same time. Well, it worked out just great and we saw and did so much--Dollywood and Rafting and Zip lining and Forbidden Cavern. We rented a boat for a day on Douglas Lake. We hiked and explored and checked out many of the arts and crafts locations, found some great barbecue. We saw wildlife and enjoyed playing games and just sitting on the rockers watching a downpour or two and the sun breaking through the "smoke" in the mornings. We found Pigeon Forge a bit too commercialized to our liking, but Gatlinburg was just about right! Now there's talk of having to do something like this again...

Oh, and lest I forget, the speed with which the A/C problem was corrected was remarkable!

Thanks for helping us have a memorable experience!

Big bear lodge

The cabin was beautiful. Very roomy for multiple guests. The scenery is beautiful. The only downfall is the trip back to the cabin. Not very friendly for people with motion sickness, but we made it. We had such a great time.

The property was well maintained and had gorgeous views.

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cabin for a large family vacation weekend and it was everything we needed. The views from the deck are breath taking, especially in the morning. Also working with Staci was wonderful. She was truly helpful with any questions I had. Thank you Craig, Beth, and Staci for making our trip so wonderful.

This worked great for our extended family get away! The view was gorgeous!

the set up of having a bathroom with each bedroom was perfect.

Wonderful time at the cabin and with the owner of the cabin

  • 5 of 5

The location of the cabin and the roads leading to the cabin were great. Though there were tall trees around the back of the cabin, we were able to enjoy a spectacular view of the mountain from the decks. My son and I enjoyed the hot tub every morning while viewing the "smoke" lift from the mountain. I really enjoyed communicating with Staci. She is very attentive and goes out of her way to make sure everything is in perfect order.

Great place and everything was in great shape. We had a family vacation with a total of 10 and the accommodations were perfect. The only complaint I heard all week about the mattress with the exception of the master bedroom needing replacement because of center sag. All in all and we really loved being far away from the insanity of Gatlinburg. For a family retreat this place is a 5 star. Kitchen and bathrooms were great and a fantastic view from the deck. Rocky the raccoon visits nightly and the kids loved it. We have every year for the last 8 rented a places from one coast to the other and even Canada for the family gathering. This is near on at everyone top of the list. Thanks to the owner for making it available and such great accommodations.
