Hurricane Michael UPDATE: We were fortunate to only have minor damage from the storm and have fully repaired and restored the house. Michael washed away most of our 200 foot dock but the current status as of mid December is that 125 feet has been restored and this is sufficient for fishing. We are getting several pilings reset in the deeper water end and hope to have this completed by end of January 2019. Thanks for your patience.
Stunning sunset views over Ochlockonee Bay from the wrap-around screened porch and 200 ft fishing dock led us to name this place 'Sunset Therapy.' Less than a mile from the open Gulf of Mexico, this home is located on a half acre lot and is surrounded by tall pines, palms, and oaks. The area is all residential, with no giant hotels or condo complexes, little traffic, and room to roam. Within a mile walk is Mashes Sands Beach and state park, including public fishing pier and hiking trails. There are 3 marinas within 20 minutes drive, and a free public boat ramp within a mile where you can put in your fishing boat and keep it at our dock during your stay. This is a natural paradise to be enjoyed by all ages.
We purchased and remodeled this home in 2010, but its unique architecture and views must be attributed to the Simms family who built it in 1966. It features a large great room in the center that is hexagon shaped with 3 walls of windows and french doors providing a 180 degree view of the bay. The dome-like ceiling rises to 14 feet in the center. The kitchen, dining, and living room areas are all under this dome, and the 40 inch HD TV can be viewed by all. The master bedroom has a king bed and computer desk, and the guest side has a second master-size bedroom with 2 queen beds and a smaller kid bedroom with 2 XL twin beds.
Many of our guests come for the pristine and quiet surroundings that include visits from dolphins and manatees in the bay! Others come for the dock fishing and other wonderful natural sites like St. Marks lighthouse and Wakulla Springs, and activities like biking and paddling trails that are available locally. See Wakulla and Franklin County websites for local sites, trails, etc.
We added a second property this year at 453 Mashes Sands which is larger (1900 sq ft) and creates the possibility for family reunions, wedding or anniversary celebrations, or other events with combined sleeping space for 21-25 persons.
Once you experience the unique ambiance of this home and the surrounding environment, you will fall in love with it too. And you will recognize why we named it 'Sunset Therapy.'
