About Cary Fichtner-Vu

We are a family from Virginia with 4 children, 4 grandchildren

( hopefully more on the way) and this is our family's treasured second home. Our eldest daughter attended College of Charleston and we all fell in love with the charm of Historical Charleston and the lifestyle of the low country. Our daughter married and has a child, living a couple of blocks away. We are here almost once a month to enjoy family and to make sure the house remains pristine, well maintained and enjoyable. We are always updating, recently adding a king bed instead of a queen to the front bedroom, new HVAC, new linens, shower curtains, new furniture, power washing the building, painting rooms, always something to do!

Cary Fichtner-Vu purchased this house in 2010

Why Cary Fichtner-Vu chose Folly Beach

After extensive searching for just the right property, we picked this fabulous home on the west side of Center, which we find quieter and with less traffic, yet we are in the block of town and only 2 blocks to the beach!!!!! Walk to everything...location, location, location! This houses has the sleeping space upstairs for quiet and the family space to include a large kitchen, family room, separate dining room and laundry room on the main level. Both floors have a deck overlooking the yard and street, but tucked among the big oak trees.

What makes this house unique

Walk to town and the beach! Multi levels to accommodate all the guests needs!

Plenty of parking because Folly Beach can be a parking nightmare!

Cook's kitchen- everything you need to do a fabulous meal.....or walk to one of the many Folly Beach restaurants.

Fabulous porches overlooking the street, for quietly rocking and reading or chatting.

Wonderful Folly Beach Property!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here and we were absolutely delighted with the accommodations. The bedrooms were well appointed and the beds were very comfortable. Nice hardwood floors, and large kitchen with all the comforts of home. We were also pleased to have a nice laundry room. The location was great, one and a half blocks from the beach, and a half block from the town. My sister and I borrowed the bikes to ride around the beautiful area and to the many restaurants nearby. The owner was very accommodating, letting us stay later because of our late flights going home, which I really appreciated. We hated to leave, but you can be sure I will gladly come back to this lovely home in the future.

Excellent Accomodations and Agent customer service

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as it's listed in Homeaway.com! Beautiful, quiet and all the amenities of a home away from home. This was a last minute decision and booking for our family of 5 and Cary Fichtner-Vu definitely went out of her way to accommodate. Leaving the DC area on any day of the week will put anyone in a stressful mood (thanks to DC traffic and I-95) but needless to say Ms. Vu gave us all the necessary information and reassurance that once we got to Folly the stress would disappear.

The weather was great, the house met all out needs and the local food/grub (recommended by Ms. Vu) was "off the charts" - we definitely hit "flavor town" in Folly Beach! Who has ever had the opportunity to grind their own honey roasted peanut butter (http://bertsmarket.com/wp/) - winner!!

We've rented several "vacation homes" over the last 17 years and I'd have to say the personal touch and accommodating nature of Ms. Vu made the trip much more enjoyable. We even had a direct line to her in case anything went wrong or we needed something during our stay. I only wish we had the experience of a full week in Folly.

If you need to make last minute plans and there's availability - look up this property and rent it.

Best decision we made this summer and we enjoyed it so much we'll be back in October for another round of sushi and oysters at Snapper Jack's (http://snapperjacks.net/)! Thanks again to Ms. Vu and her crew - the property and service were impeccable!

Beautiful Home, but Worst Customer Service EVER

  • 1 of 5

Before booking the house, I inquired about the possibility of an early check in. I was greeted with a friendly response stating that the cleaners are normally done by 2 pm and that it shouldn't be a problem, but they couldn't guarantee anything. They would have to let me know as time drew closer. (Perfectly Understandable) We booked it! I emailed Cary Fitchner-Vu on 9/7/16. She was the agent I had been in contact with throughout the entire process. I was inquiring about the welcome letter and if she was aware if we would be able to check in early yet. She responded to me with the welcome letter attached and completely ignored my question. I politely responded thanking her for the letter and inquired again if she knew when we would be able to check in and reminded her of the conversation that we had prior to me ever booking the house. She responded stating that if we needed that much flexibility then we should have booked a hotel and the earliest is normally 3:00 p.m. I sent her the email showing where she had previously stated 2:00 p.m. shouldn't be a problem. Then she told me I asked her for an early check in after booking because the rental agreement says 5 o'clock check in. I corrected her again. She responded saying that if I wanted to go to a hotel then I should go, and that she has already given me a break by being flexible with the 3 night minimum since we are only staying 2 nights. However, it clearly said 2 night minimum on HomeAway. So I corrected her again. She then told me that she was done "arguing with me" and did not want to rent to me anymore. I got nervous when she said that as we were traveling from 7 hours away and I did not want to get down there and not have a place to stay, so I apologized (for doing nothing wrong). She responded, thanking me for my apology. She never once apologized for anything. Fast forward to Friday, we arrive at 1. Cary sends me the codes at 1 and says we can go in at 2. Well no one was there and one of the girls tries to code to go in and use the bathroom and comes right back out. We immediately get messages to vacate the house so I call and explain that we just used the restroom and left. We head to the beach. Upon return, none of the codes she provided us worked. We had to sit outside for 15 minutes waiting for her to respond to my numerous phone calls and texts. Moral of the story, the home is BEAUTIFUL and so convenient, but I wouldn't wish Cary on my worst enemy! Steer clear folks! Owners, get a new agent!

Owner's Response: The best response is to share any or all of Tiffany's 13 emails and all of my responses....please dont hesitate to ask and decide for yourself. She requested early check in, and I said USUALLY the house is clean by 2, but as reservations are made often at the last minutes, I cant dictate a professional cleaning service schedule when my lease says 5. I always try to accommodate people, and usually they are accommodated as I told her, but I respect my professional cleaning service schedule. BTW, she had access at 2, except towels were still in the dryer, but her friends went in at 1....so much for customer service and mutual respect. Obviously she planned to start the gathering early because I was harassed unmercifully all day. She stated that she preferred a hotel with more flexibility, so I offered her a complete cancellation with full refund and VERIFIED the hotel had availability. She immediately responded and asked how soon I could refund her money; as it was on paypal, as soon as I could get to a computer. I really did not want her in my house, her actions and wild accusations made me leery of her in my family second home. All of a a sudden I get the following... "Cary, I wanted to sincerely apologize to you about today! I think things were misinterpreted through emails by the both of us! I am under a lot of stress with the wedding only a month away and I shouldn't have taken that stress out on you! Whenever we are able to get into the house on Friday whether it's 2 or 5 or anywhere in between, I am thankful to have somewhere so reasonably priced and beautiful to stay. I hope you can accept my apology and we can move past this! I don't want any other problems, I'd just like to enjoy my weekend! Thank you! Tiffany" So I held my breathe. Calls didnt stop, then they came from her friends asking to use the golf cart. Her security deposit was returned on the 18th in full. I am Cary Fichtner-Vu owner and a real estate agent for 35 years, Tiffany thankfully is one of only maybe 4 horrible tenants in all my years experience, most people are wonderful.

Wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

This home was just as described and pictured. Well appointed, spacious, cheerful, and comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with nice dishes, flatware, pots and pans and appliances. There were beach towels and some beach gear as well. It had everything we needed for an awesome beach vacation (except, maybe, it could have been warmer in FB. But hey, it was mid-October!)

We were able to leave the car in the driveway and walk in minutes to everything...beach, shops, restaurants (Lost Dog Cafe and Taco Boy..yum!), even the post office and a Catholic church. A big chain grocery was 2.2 miles away.

It was 20 minutes drive to Charleston. There was way too much to see in one day in this beautiful city. We should have planned on at least a second day.

We have never been to this area before, but we will be back. We think this could be the place for our next family vacation.
