Christmas in Assisi - A dream come true!

  • 5 of 5

It has almost been a year since my dream finally came true. My visit to Assisi could not have been the joy without my new friendship with Father Michael and Miguel. I was there by myself and Father said I could not be alone for Christmas. Father and Micheal were perfect hosts. And the meal was delicious. Apt. Elena is the perfect place to stay. So close to everything and even the walk to St. Mary of the Angels Church was easy and the country dide was awesome. I hpoe to be back in Assisi soon and hopefully in my home away from home...Apt Elena with my friends Father Micheal and Miguel.

Owner's Response: The joy of receiving guests to our apartment like Dot is not only that of meeting new persons, but also of finding new friends, who share one's core values and outlook and moreover open up fresh perspectives on what one has always taken for granted. Celebrating the days of Christmas with Dot was particularly lovely, since this is the season of sharing life's deepest delight of communicating the warmth of human presence revealed in its gracious beauty by God among us. This above all is the feature and spirit of St Francis' Assisi, the city of peace.

Peaceful retreat in the heart of the town

  • 5 of 5

Three of us came to Assisi for a choral summer school and stayed in this delightful apartment. Having two bedrooms and two bathrooms suited our needs perfectly, and it was located just a few minutes walk from our rehearsal room and from the centre of the town. It was wonderful to be able to come home for a picnic lunch and siesta in the afternoons, to escape the heat and the crowds.

It was also a pleasure to meet Father Michael and Miguel, who very helpfully provided transport to and from the railway station, and we were delighted that they both were able to come to our concert in the Basilica of St Francis at the end of the course.

Owner's Response: August 7, 2016 It was a sheer delight to meet and welcome these three singers from England to our apartment, which we are glad they found comfortable and very suitable to their requirements. We are most grateful for their kind invitation to a splendid choral concert in Assisi in which they took part. This concert was part of their choir's tour of various European places such as Notre Dame, Paris. It was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to English voices performing medieval polyphony which filled the frescoed walls of St Francis' upper basilica. We appreciate gratefully the gift left us by one of these visitors - the CD of Christmas music - a lovely memento of their visit. We wish these guests all the best and look forward to welcome them back again to our apartment "Elena".

Perfectly located in the centre of Assisi

  • 5 of 5

This is an ideal place to stay within walking distance to all the main sights. It is very quiet as it is away from any traffic area. Father Michael welcomed us by picking us up at the train station and it was nice to know that he and his assistant,Miguel, were only a phone call away.

The apartment was equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. It was clean and the fact that there were two bathrooms made for an added bonus. The central heating system was effective and it would suit visitors year round. The fact that it was nearly 800 years old really added to to experience of staying in this marvellous medieval town. Would strongly recommend it.

Owner's Response: It was delightful to welcome Anne and Don all the way from New Zealand. There was a great deal we were able to share in pleasant conversations about common interests including icons. These guests carefully looked after the apartment and left it tidy and clean. I would gladly welcome them back and recommend them most heartily.

Wonderful apartment with everything you nee.

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was a perfect place to stay to explore Assisi and Umbria. We stayed 5 nights and were very comfortable. It is centrally located in Assisi, yet felt cozy and quiet. It was very clean and had everything we could possibly need. Father Micheal was so kind, meeting us at the parking garage to walk us to the apartment and showing us everything we would need to know. We also had our chocolate lab with us, so it was so nice to have a great place that would accomadate him, with a garden area only a short walk away. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Assisi.

Perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Apartment Elena was the perfect place to stay for our first visit to Assisi. Fr. Michael and Miguel are fabulous hosts! Miguel picked us up at the train station, and we met Fr. Michael at the apt. Everything we needed was there, and we knew we could call them if we needed any help. We enjoyed dining with them too. The location was great-right near St. Clare's Bascilica. So convenient for daily morning Mass with the cloistered nuns. Our visit was wonderful and hope to visit again.

Staying with new friends in Assisi

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to spend my birthday in Assisi; I didn't care where, as long as it was central to the main square and the Basilica of St. Francis. My wife did all the planning...and did she ever come up with the ideal VRBO rental: Apartment Elena, owned by an English priest, Father Michael.

Now, as it turns out, my birthday is March 30, which this year happened to be the day before Easter Sunday. That would be Easter Sunday in the first year of the new pope, who took the name Francis. Suffice to say, this was the year of all years for modern Assisi.

Father Michael and his associate Miguel were available to us from the moment we stepped off the train from Florence until it was time to re-board that train a week later. We went to dinner with them, we cooked a meal for them, they cooked for us (on Easter!) and we had lunch together the day before we left. They also helped us with many decisions throughout the week we stayed there. And we talked and talked and talked...and we learned and learned and learned.

And therein lies the real story of staying at Apt Elena. It's a nice, basic apartment in just the right location to reach any attraction. And it's a bargain to boot. But it's the intimate connections offered by Fr Michael and Miguel that makes this rental such a rewarding place to stay.

Don't think twice. Book this place if you want to learn what it's actually like to live in Assisi.

Owner's Response: It was lovely to receive Richard and Wiley in Assisi - it felt from the beginning of meeting them like welcoming back good old friends at home. We shared together many a laugh in our conversations as we spent time with them - and also their daughter. Meals with them savouring the wine of this lovely country enhanced companionship. It will be great to receive them again in the future.

Restaurants, bars, wine shops and supermarkets are all at walking distance, as well as the main bus stop, free and payment parking.

It is very easy to arrive at Apartment ‘Elena’: many daily trains connect Assisi to Rome, Florence and other places. A frequent regular local bus service connects the station and the city, stopping at Porta Nuova conveniently very near the apartment. Assisi presents the opportunity to enjoy beautiful art and architecture together with the spiritual experience of places associated with franciscan origins - such as San Damiano, Porziuncola, the Basilicas of St Francis and St Clare. The city of Assisi is also situated inside the Mount Subasio Natural Park, which offers the visitor the opportunity to appreciate and experience nature's beauty.
