Our first time on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

This was an incredible spot for our first trip to Hawaii as it was away from the touristy spots yet still very close to everything we wanted to do. There is enough local stores in the immediate area that provided us with what we needed without having to drive the 10 miles or so into Kona.

The place is truly surrounded by tropical forest which gave you a sense of total privacy as they list on their info page. The patio with the chairs for relaxing/sunning along with the bbq grill was a definite plus as well.

As you can see I gave the place an excellent rating which it certainly deserved BUT the only caveat to my review would be something that is entirely out of the owners control which was the noises of the many animals that surround you all of the time especially at night and early in the AM. It was very enjoyable as you have to understand that you were in the jungle but the roosters starting their "squawking" pretty early in the morning and being a light sleeper I had to purchase a set of earplugs to be able to cut down on some of it.

Do NOT let this be a warning as to not to go but simply one to understand as the place is well worth the stay.

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear you enjoyed our private “Enchanting Hideaway… this lush tropical Hideaway is for those who enjoy relaxing in their own private garden and soaking in their private hot tub and still have the convenience of beaches, stores and restaurants close by…it is true that there are a number of farm sounds in coffee farm land… they include chickens (none belong to us).. coqui frogs, geckoes , a neighboring cow in the distance and maybe even a turkey plus the other critters that live here , ants, roaches . Since your visit we have gotten a cage for catching the wild roasters and cats which like to come by … we do have our pet cat that makes the rounds and likes to visit the guests but he can be shooed off.. most guest miss their pets so they don’t mind him stopping by. We do have coqui frogs during the rainy season … (they chirp at night,, kind of sound like lots of birds chirping) some people don’t like the noise at first but then say they get use to these jungle sounds… and it even helps them to sleep… others use ear plugs if you feel this noise would make you unhappy then it would be best not to rent in the tropical areas but rather to rent a condo in the tourist area… . we have many happy return guests who feel the pluses outweigh (what some might consider negatives we do not hear the coqui frogs during the season.

It was a very unique and great place!

  • 5 of 5

Great place and fairly quiet, although there was some construction noises throughout the day. At night all you could hear were the animals and creatures in the trees which was really cool! Hot tub was great!

A Private Little Nitch in the Jungle

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this unique home for seven nights. There were screens on nearly all the windows and the entry door was screen only too, meaning no glass. We were safe from mosquitoes (and other bugs) and the geckos shared their home with us. The coqui frogs were very loud as were the roosters but that just added to the charm of the place. We used the hot-tub at the end of a long day exploring the west side of the big Island. All the appliances and plumbing worked well. It was nice to have the use of a washer and dryer. We really like the shower - it was spacious and with good water pressure. Their Internet was fast and reliable. The place was built in levels: first level was the kitchen, one step up was the sitting/eating area, another step up was the bedroom. Some of the doorways and beams seem lower than normal - a tall person might bump their head if not cautious. This place is an old place fixed up. It was clean and nicely decorated to meet the Hawaiian theme. We enjoyed the privacy - away from busy streets, other hotels or businesses. Available were snorkeling gear, belly board, beach towels, ice chest, laundry and dish detergent, salt and pepper. No coffee was available, so if you want your morning coffee, you best provide your own to use in their Mr. Coffee machine or coffee press. We learned to not leave out our bananas, the geckos like to eat them; cute little reptiles.

Wonderfully relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Loved the secluded garden setting, had everything provided for a comfortable stay, the hot tub is a major plus, able to stay dry under the awning during an awesome rainstorm. The visits from the kitty was a wonderful reminder from home.. the roosters did their job well... got used to it though! We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Excellent location and stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this lovely cottage. We enjoyed the peaceful garden watching geckos, frogs, mongoose as well as the local Kitty cat that visited us 2 times per day. The accommodations were perfect for our needs. We had everything we needed to cook our own meals. Was a great central locations to get to all of the sights and beautiful beaches. Sitting in the hot tub at night time, gazing at the stars in this beautiful garden will never be forgotten. I'd highly recommend this cottage to others.
