Point of View is privately owned, solar powered home on one completely fenced and gated acre. It is comprised of a main living building, and separate bedroom building. Below the main building is the caretaker's unit. While it affords privacy, the caretakers are nearby should you need them. Additionally, another building houses the ballet studio and includes a full bath. Studio can also be used as a bedroom for another couple, with queen bed.
This home was originally built in 1989, and expanded over the years to what it is today. It includes a beautiful private pool with large sunny deck, and poolhouse, which includes a small kitchen area, under the counter refrigerator, and a gas grill.
The living area of the house consists of a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, 3/4 bath, day room (with queen bed), and living room that opens to a deck/patio area.
The bedroom building is connected to the main house by a breezeway and consists of the master bedroom (king bed) with sitting area, and separate deck overlooking the pool and fantastic view of Montserrat. There is also a small bedroom with bunk beds. The master bath has a large round tub, partially outside, and surrounded by a stone wall for privacy.
Built on a hill, stone stairways connect all the buildings. The lower building on the property is our beautiful, breezy workout studio with a mirrored wall on one side & windows overlooking an unobstructed ocean view on the opposite side. Wooden louvres on the E & W walls allow the breeze to blow across the room as you work out. It has an outside deck with built in benches on both sides. It also can be used as a completely separate bedroom (queen bed)
If you like hiking, one of Antigua's FINEST beaches, 'Rendezvous'., is about a 30-45 minute walk away. Pack a lunch, throw a few drinks in your backpack and head off.
Proper shoes a must as the trail is a bit up and down and steep in the beginning. You can also drive there around the back side of the hill, if you have 4WD.
If you are a horse rider, check out Antigua Equestrian Center. Just up the road, arrangements can be made to ride to the beach and see some of the back parts of our beautiful island.
For nightlife, English Harbour is just a 15 minute drive around to the other side of Falmouth Harbour. There are several excellent restaurants for you to choose from, and our caretakers can assist you with making reservations. Sunday evening everyone heads to Shirley Heights. Watch the sunset, have a rum punch and listen to the steel band, all while overlooking beautiful English and Falmouth Harbours.
And don't miss downtown St. John's. Guests of Point of View can enjoy a 10% discount at Island Creations, located in historic Redcliffe Quay. After a bit of shopping, check out Big Banana's 'Pizzas in Paradise' for pizza and a cool drink, also in Redcliffe Quay.
After you have exhausted yourself shopping and arrive back to Point of View, well-laden with souvenirs and trinkets, you can end your day with a dip in the pool and a sunset drink. As the sun sets into the horizon, you may even see a green flash!
The house is unscreened, open-air and breeze cooled and the house communicates to the outdoors as if it were one. As Point of View is completely powered by the sun, we try to keep our energy usage low and ask our guests to conserve when possible. (don't leave lights on in parts of the property you aren't using, etc)
Keywords: Gated 1 acre property with view of Falmouth Harbour, lush gardens, breezy ballet studio, caretaker on premises. Close to beach and English Harbour restaurants.
Originally from California, I made my home in Antigua from 1986 til 2008. My family now lives in Aiken, South Carolina, with 4 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.
Gina purchased this villa in 1989
280 degree ocean view....was hard to pass up.
I built this house from the rocks up, taking care to locate each building in a way to catch the wonderful breezes and take advantage of the beautiful views. We like to think we did o.k.!
There is no doubt that this property has one of THE best locations on the island. Very private, with views right across Falmouth Harbour to the mountain backdrop in one direction, and out across the Caribbean Sea to the SW in the other direction - so perfect for rum punch sundowners! Very attractve stone-built design and layout, although there are a lot of steps to negotiate for guests on the lower level. Good sized pool and perfect temperature. Ideal for self-catering, with a well-stocked supermarket at the bottom of the hill. Quite an interesting approach road up the steep hillside which of course gives the fabulous views, but 4WD essential! The caretakers, Randy and Sarah, are brilliant hosts and are on site 24/7 to attend to all needs. If we should return to the island in the future, there is only one place we would want to stay - Point of View.
We were looking for a place to get away, and have a peaceful stress free vacation. The pictures look amazing but let us tell you... it is far better in person. When we arrived we were "so taken back" with the beauty, privacy and of course the spectacular panoramic views surrounding us, the stone work, the pool and how massive the place was. We felt like we were at our own little resort.
We found tranquility, and so much more than we imagined. We had quiet times with a few cocktails by the pool just gazing out at that spectacular view, it felt like it was just us and the ocean.
The way I can describe waking up for the first time in that open air bedroom is ( and this was a first for both of us) like waking up in a honeymoon suite.. in that comfortable bed.. with the netting over us and there it was… that panoramic ocean view and nothing but QUIET and tropical birds. Sun shining and the ocean looked like sparkling diamonds. asighhh
I will always remember that moment and saying to my Fiancé “Is this for real?” This is the nicest place we have ever stayed in.( We do a fair bit of travel) Open air is so freeing ,our doors and windows were open all night. It was safe and quite romantic. The breeze, comfy bed.. bliss
Morning coffee is our favourite time at home and on vacation. So fun to walk right out of our (large bedroom suite)with no doors in the way, down the cute little steps, into the house which has a full kitchen, bathroom, living room, extra rooms . Bright, big deck, TV and beautiful furnishings.
Randy and Sarah are the caretakers(living in a separate house) and they are the friendliest most loving couple that you will ever meet. Their mission is make you feel relaxed, and help you with whatever you need. Their genuine commitment is ensuring your stay is worry free begins "the moment you arrive". We found their recommendations for beaches, restaurants and shopping to be invaluable. Thanks guys we think your just great, looking forward to seeing you next time.
Point of view villa was a great rental. The location was great, the views were spectacular and the house itself was comfortable. The caretakers, Sarah and Randy were readily available and very friendly. If/when we return to Antigua, I would definitely stay at Point of View again. My only issue was the mosquitos. Every member of our party received an overwhelming number of bug bites. I know this issue is being addressed but make sure you bring plenty of bug spray.
It's obvious that many of us find this to be a very special place... The villa , its views and the privacy are amazing... Believe your eyes when you see the photos...Gina was very proactive and the booking process was seamless... She also gave us some really helpful tips before arriving (Definitely go to the Epicurean market when landing)... My family and I can't say enough about Randy and Sarah... Not only are they really good people but they are fantastic at what they do... A lot goes into keeping the surroundings beautiful and making sure the guests are happy..They certainly do both... Plenty to do for all ages... A lot of beaches to choose from ... Try the local foods... Rent an AWD for sure... Oh yeah, one more thing... My wife and 3 kids loved it so much that I just bought our tickets about 10 minutes ago !! Can't wait ... See you then POV...
The pictures of the property were amazing but did not adequately show the property. I did a walking tour video to show it better but have been unable to upload. The house and grounds are subject to an almost constant breeze. If the house had been built on an angle the breeze could have offered a more efficient cooling. As it is the breeze interferes with the flame on the stove. This necessitates the closing of 2 small windows which In turn will instantly make the main house warm to hot.
The view is beautiful from all angles. The pool is refreshing and spacious. Every building holds its own charm and character. The lower studio has the best access to the breeze and at times too much access.
The house is about to receive electrical power which will reduce and or eliminate the need to run the generator. The water for the house is totally from cistern which will require the " yellow is mellow; if it's brown flush it down" edict. This was of no concern to our group as we are of a conservation mindset. The property is well cared for and simply "paradise".
Bring your own food (meats must be frozen solid and have the USDA seal visible. Dry goods were packed in a separate bag). The roads are horrible and, by my professional opinion, dangerous. A island car service can provide transportation if you find the need to venture out. We did a trip to Long Beach which was so pleasant and refreshing. We had no trouble amusing ourselves with games provided and music and movies we brought with us.
It was an adventure and one of (if not the) best vacations we have ever experienced.
The caretakers Sarah and Randy are beautifully amazing people with a vast knowledge of the island and property.
Thank you Gina for building this wonderful villa nestled up in the hills. This is our second time visiting and I can't wait to come back The villa itself is spacious and homey, plenty of room for myself, 2kids and grandma. I would highly rent a 4x4 and recommend Vernon's . They will provide a discount for staying at Point of View. I made the mistake of renting a car and it didn't almost make it up the steep incline. Thank you Randy and Sarah for helping me return the car and connect with Vernons. We also brought food this time in our suitcase as food can be expensive on the island. We stopped at Euro grocery store to get water, dairy, meat before heading to the villa. There also is a great ice cream and food stand at the bottom of the hill from the villa. This is my second time here with my kids and we love it. There is limited internet which was nice as we could spend more quality family time. We absolutely LOVE the pool and the platform to jump off of. I also bought some rafts and brought them so we had some fun things to play with in the pool . We went to Turners Beach and swam, jet ski and ate at their restaurant. The house is off the grid and at night time we had lots of fun playing cards and games, then falling asleep to the ocean waves below. Thank you Randy and Sarah for taking such good care of us and thank you Gina for building this little slice of heaven high up in the hills on the Island of Antiqua. Jeanne/Josh/Jessie and Grandma.
Our property is conveniently located a few miles from all Falmouth & English Harbour shopping, restaurants and bars.....close enough, but located out of the hustle and bustle!
