A bit disappointing...
We were a little disappointed with our stay. We knew the place was small but didn’t expect this small. The shower was so tiny you could hardly turn around and the water pressure was virtually non-existent.
The apartment was beautifully decorated but there was little room to put out our things we needed for our stay. The only place to put our bags so we could access them easily was on the lounge, it would be ok if you only had an overnight bag but we were on a 5 week holiday so we had quite large bags.
You could only watch TV if you have an Apple account which we didn’t have so we couldn’t watch anything.
The location of the apartment was great though, not far from restaurants, shopping and there is a bike hire shop a little way up the street.
It’s a nice apartment but I’d only recommend it for a weekend getaway or short stay, not for travellers who have a lot of luggage.
Stunning apartment in a beautiful city
We stayed for 3 nights early Jul to see the Roger Walters concert. An absolutely beautiful apartment within the City walls and close to everything. We didn't get to meet Liz but wished we had so that we could say how much we loved Adagio. The prosecco & cake on arrival were most welcome!! Ricardo in the wine shop downstairs under the apartment was a really lovely helpful man with a great selection of local wine :) The gig was all we expected it to be and being able to stroll along to the venue straight from the door was just great. Will look to see who are playing in Lucca next year & hope we will be able to book Adagio again.
First time in Tuscany
Just spent our first week in Tuscany and it wont be our last . Had a great trip , The appartment is the perfect base to explore Lucca and the surrounding area . We really felt we were living the Italian life .
Liz the owner makes the most of the appartments size , and it has everything you will need during your stay. Its beautifully presented with some really nice touches , and the attention to detail such as fresh cut flowers and a bottle of bubbley chilling in the fridge on arrival show she cares about her guests .
Its an easy train journey from Pisa airport into Lucca and then just a 15 min walk to the appartment .
Liz met us at the appartment and showed us the arround while giving us some good tips on restaurants and things to do close by .
Just loved to sit with the windows open and listen to the people talking in the street below .
The highlight of the week was attending the Puccini Opera concert in the church. This happens every night at 7pm and i would recomend it to everyone , such a simple and intimate venue my wife and i loved it .
You are spolit for choice for lovely restaurants in the city , they dont look much from the outside , but once inside the food and service is excellent .
Lost count of the number of times we strolled around the city walls with frequent stops for a coffee or a glass of wine, and to watch the world go by . The whole place has such a quiet charm and slower pace thats just so refreshing in this busy busy world.
Are there things that could be improved ? of course . The shower is small and takes a few days to get used to but it works and serves its purpose . But thats the whole point of the apartment, its not trying to be a modern hotel room with all mod cons and flashing lights , its deliveres something so much more and puts you into a frame of mind that no modern hotel can ever do simply from its style and location .
Would i recommened the apartment ? YES . would I return YES .
We met Liz at the "door" on the street where her "Adagio" is located. Once inside the buildings interior hall, then up a flight of stairs - her darling apartment was revealed ! She has updated & decorated this old world apartment so beautifully - it was a pleasure being there. After a brief time to show us around and welcome us to Lucca, she left - it was then that we saw her many sweet touches left just for us! Processco & petite cake in the fridge along with lovely fragrant lily stems scattered about in small vases.
The bed was comfy and she has made room underneath for luggage storage, the wardrobes are roomy with drawers as well, the kitchen is stocked with enough of the usual items you would have at home to make cooking small meals a cinch ! Loved having a very efficient clothes washer hidden away in the compact kitchen. Our only ...... misgiving.... was the small shower - it was a bit tight for my husband 6'2" (and myself actually) to comfortably bathe without worry of water spilling outside of the shower curtain on to the bathroom floor. Totally understandable situation when remodeling in tight spaces. Overall, a lovely stay and Liz could not have been more helpful from start (many months in advance) to finish !!
Fell in love again in Lucca!
Sam and I were thrilled to find the apartment was just as it was described. So cozy and comfortable for the two of us. Tastefully decorated and every little thing we could possibly need for our stay was at our fingertips. Liz provided a wealth of info about local restaurants, wine shops and bicycle rentals. We settled in and explored the city and city walls over our three day stay and wished we had more time. We fell in love with Lucca and couldn't imagine a better place to wind up our 40th anniversary trip to Greece and Italy. Thank you Liz and VRBO!
Quaint well located gem in Lucca!
Tastefully decorated apartment that makes the most of the space. Well equipped. Unfortunately a little dark. Liz was a truly wonderful host. She spent time giving us tips about Lucca. The highlight of our stay were the multiple bike rides that we took along the wall. We would love to come back!
Thank you Simon! My apologies, I have become very "Italian" and leave the exterior shutters closed in the "Nonna" fashion ... allowing privacy from neighbours across, but still able to people watch below and it does reduce light. Next time I will make sure they are fully open, and the apartment then is always full of sunshine. Its an Italian thing these closed shutters! Warm Regards and safe travels! Liz
