My spouse and I rented an apartment in Venice this winter for four amazing magical months. In part we did this to reduce accommodation and meal expenses but our main reason was so that we could experience if only a little, what it is like to live like a Venetian and to get to know some of the city’s residents. Our apartment was what we understand is a fairly typical two bedroom unit with an on suite and master bathroom and with an open combination kitchen/living room. The apartment was clean, comfortable and during our stay, generally very quiet although it is worth noting that because of age, layout and construction of Venetian buildings the walls tend to be thinner than what you might be used to and so sound will travel through the walls. We arranged with the property manager for a bi-monthly cleaning service that included bedding. If you are planning on staying for an extended period we highly recommend taking advantage of this service. As this was our first time in Venice we also arranged to hire the person who does the housekeeping as a guide for a few hours over several days to show us how to navigate the city. This was money well spent and in addition to getting us oriented the person helped us purchase tap and go cards for the Vaporatto (water buses) that are the essential transportation link for moving around and between the city’s islands. If you want to see Venice and rub shoulders with her people these cards are a must and far cheaper in the long run than purchasing per trip tickets. The apartment is situated beside a canal in a quiet residential area just steps away from the historic Arsenale (Arsenal). Nearby is the Arsenale Bar that became our favourite morning stop for coffee and brioche and just around the corner is the Formaggeria where we purchased delicious, meats, cheese and other meal items. The Via Garibaldi is a short walk away where you will find all manner of stores and shops for all your needs. For us the Arsenale apartment was the perfect location. At the end of the calle on the waterfront overlooking the lagoon is a Vaporatto station and an easy stroll away is San Marco Square, the Basilica and the myriad other historical sites and treasures of this unique and beautiful city. For the four months we were there this was our home and it allowed us to experience Venice in ways we could have never imagined and that we will always cherish.

Very pleased with our choice!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was clean and comfortable, quite functional although sparsely decorated. It was perfect for our short 2-night stay, and I would definitely consider booking for a longer stay in the future. Neshell greeted us promptly on arrival at 4 pm. The short walk from the boat stop to the apartment without crossing over any canals was a welcome pleasure after traveling all day. The one flight of stairs up is narrow but we had no trouble with our luggage (large backpack + small carry-on each). If you have rolling luggage, be prepared to carry up and down. We liked the location, just on the fringe of the heavy tourist area, close to everything but quiet at night, and we felt safe. We didn't use the kitchen but found it was well-equipped. The air conditioning, washing machine (bring own detergent), and wifi all worked flawlessly. The TV channel selection is limited but it wasn't an issue for us. The full bathroom (toilet, bidet, sink, shower, washing machine) is next to the first bedroom (large bed, more queen than double). The towels provided were nice and large. The shower was very good although the caulking is showing wear and the door was a bit off its track. The half bathroom (toilet, sink) is off the second bedroom where our teenagers slept in twin beds. There were no plumbing or water issues. As agreed, Neshell arrived promptly at 10:30 am on the final day to check the apartment and return our deposit. She was pleasant, quick, and efficient, which we appreciated!

After settling in, we left to explore and get dinner. A hard rain came and we ducked into the restaurant at the beginning of the street (just across from the Arsenale boat stop to the left of the street leading to the apartment). Our teenagers loved their pizza, my dinner salad was huge and delicious, and my spouse said his pasta Bolognese was excellent, and our server was delightful! St. Mark's Square is an easy 5-minute walk away. From there, we easily made our way through the side streets to the Rialto area where we crossed over and then explored our way back with the help of a map and signs on the buildings. The streets are confusing but it's fairly easy to follow signs and know you're going in the right direction. We took a gondola ride one evening ($100 euros) which was pleasant in spite of a light drizzle starting about halfway through. Each day, we explored, stopping for meals, shopping, and gelato whenever the mood struck. Our stay in Venice was truly delightful!

Just O.K...

After being absolutely spoilt in Positano, Rome and Florence, all I can say is this apartment in Venice was mediocre.

The owner met us at the water taxi - which was nice. A short walk to the apartment - also nice.

We listened to the owner tell us all about her neighbourhood, she highly recommended an "authentic Venetian" restaurant nearby. We were escorted there and introduced as her apartment guests. The meal was awful and the wine undrinkable!!! :( so disheartening! One month in Italy and it was our first and only terrible meal!

(Please reconsider your recommendations to that establishment)

Things to note if choosing this apartment -

When the sofa bed is open there is not enough room to sit at the table.

The owner does not provide a spare roll of toilet paper. :( (We are a family of 6)

Find your own places to dine.

Location was good.

The apartment was clean.

Awesome apartment in great location!

It does not get any more convenient than this apartment! The apartment was very clean and comfortable. I do not understand the comments about the beds, we were extremely comfortable and it was so nice not to be cramped, lots of space. We did not use the kitchen to cook, however it's so nice to have a refrigerator and cold beverages when you need them. Besides the beauty of Venice, we took a day trip to Burano which was a perfect getaway. Netherlands and Marika are perfect hostess's. This trip was a graduation gift for my son and we did not want to sleep in the same bed! Perfect accommodations, 5*!

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

My family and I found this apt to be in a very good location, in a quiet neighbourhood. Not far from the square (about a 10-15 mins walk) but far enough away from the crowds. We were met by Neshell at the boat stop. She showed us around and pointed out the grocery store, bakery, restaurants, etc. She was extremely sweet and very helpful. No problems with the WiFi. Downside were the beds and pillows as they weren't very comfortable. Also, the apt we were given was not the one pictured here though it was very similar...however there was NOT a view of the canal from inside the apt. In fact all of the windows faced a brick wall. Overall I would recommend this apartment.
