About Karen Gans
Larry is a geologist who has traveled the world in search of precious metals; I have had the good fortune to accompany him on many of his adventures. We spent many years in Bolivia, moving an indigenous town so that a mine could be built. If this upsets you (as it did me), please read our book, 'The Gift of El Tio,' which will introduce us in greater depth.Larry's hobbies include painting and writing, and mine, gardening and rowing. Having studied early childhood, I worked as a mental health counselor/consultant for many years in clinics and in schools and still seek experiences working with children.
Karen Gans purchased this House in 2010
Why Karen Gans chose De La Presa
Upon opening the green door to the property, you will be enchanted with the gardens. A quiet, cool retreat from the busyness of the city, it is always a delight to return home and the reason we could not resist this property. It's truly unique! Designed by a local renowned architect, this home is truly an artistic creation to admire.
What makes this House unique
Prepare a meal in our magnificent kitchen, a cook's delight. Relax with views of the garden from any room in the house or enjoy a drink on any one of the terraces. Radiant floor heating keeps you warm in our chilly winters and a retractable dome on the atrium allows cool breezes in the warmer weather. Two fireplaces create a cozy atmosphere.

Gorgeous home in wonderful Guanajuato!
This is a beautiful, light, spotlessly clean home with nearly every possible comfort! Karen, the owner, and Laura, the house manager, were both very helpful and responsive. We came with our two young adult children and there was plenty of room for everyone, with a living area perfect for quality family time. The surrounding gardens are gorgeous and the kitchen is spacious and very well appointed. There’s also a study for anyone who needs to get some work done. There’s a separate casita on the property that was rented to a quiet couple while we were there. Laura kindly supplied us with coffee, tea, milk, and fruit, which was incredibly helpful given that we arrived fairly late. The beds were very comfortable. I’d actually give this home five stars for three seasons and four stars for winter. We stayed in the winter when the outdoor temperatures went from the 40s to the high 60s fahrenheit. Upon our evening arrival the heating system wasn’t working and the home was quite cold until promptly fixed the next afternoon. Then the downstairs became a comfortable 62-68. The bedrooms (all upstairs) are only heated with small space heaters (and in the master a small fireplace), so they can get quite chilly, but there were plenty of warm blankets and I enjoyed a few hot baths in the fabulous master bathtub. The kids’ bedrooms required going outside briefly to get to them, so they also had to go back outside in the cold to get to the upstairs inside bathroom in the middle of the night or early morning. They just bundled up in the provided robes and didn’t seem to mind. We did have a problem with spotty hot water and internet on a few occasions. It took us about twenty minutes of brisk walking to get to the center of town from this lovely abode, which we appreciated when we saw how loud that area can get in the evenings. But there also were a few small grocery stores and lovely restaurants within a 10 min. walk or less. We took a wonderful historical tour of Guanajuato through Estigo Tours that we highly recommend. We would definitely stay here again, although perhaps not in the winter, but our daughter is cold natured and had a rough time getting warm when not walking in the sun. We are from sunny Austin, though, where nearly all homes are heated throughout. You northerners might find the home toasty warm! I understand that most homes in Guanajuato are even less heated, and the residents just seem to bundle up and soldier on. All in all we had a great trip!
Thank you, Joy, for your kind review. Laura and I were both dismayed by the challenges with our heating system and then the gas running out the morning you left! My husband and I would like to offer you and your family three free nights, preferably in warmer weather! So glad you were able to enjoy the beauty of our home despite the cold! Please shoot me an email and tell me your experience with the internet so we can rectify the problem. Thank you! Karen. (owner)
perfect home for a genuine Mexican experience
Beautiful well decorated home with all amenities needed. It could have not been more perfect!
Thank you, Richard. It was lovely sharing out home with you!
Ten stars for the lovely Casa Amor. I would come back here in a heartbeat. It is stunningly beautiful, very well outfitted, and conveniently located in a nice, safe, neighborhood. Karen has thought of everything; and onsite assistance from Gela, Juan, and Mario was super helpful.
Thank you for your kind words, Aleicia, about our home. You've stated so well why we love it and why we want to share it with others. We hope you will come again!
Best in Guanajuato!
The property is located in a very quiet area. Most friendly and helpful property manager ever. Couldn't have been more sweet, giving me directions to local restaurants and shows I was attending along with a helpful map. Everything about the house was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, stylish, roomy in an excellent location. The rental property was beyond good and great value for money and Karen (the owner) was very attentive and responded to all my emails and concerns. The house itself was well equipped and comfortable. I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future. Thank you,
The Gamino family
Great property and location.
The property is great... secluded from the bustle of town, with lots of room within. The arrangement and construction are high quality and everything works as you would expect. The house is clean and comfortable. The location is great too. Light shopping and access to hiking trails just outside the door, restaurants are a five minute walk, and attractions of this beautiful city are a 25 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride away.
Thanks, Bill. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll consider us again if you visit Guanajuato.
Beautiful, comfortable property.
The home and gardens were designed by an architect with an understanding of Mexico and an eye for detail. We had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed preparing meals in the kitchen. The local property manager was responsive. We would rent this property again.
Always glad to hear our renters are satisfied. And yes, we, too, love preparing meals in our spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Hope to share our home with you again in the future! Karen and Larry
