About Mirko Bechstedt
Blue Moon Cabana was built in July/August 2011 after several years of planning and hard work to make it happen. We put our hearts and souls into the cabana and wanted to build a home that fit with the culture of Hopkins. It was important to us to create a space that was comfortable and included all the things we would want ourselves in a rental cabana in Belize. We are not into the resort experience and value the local culture and people of Hopkins. We leave the resort-type experience to the places south of the village. Mirko, who lives nearby Blue Moon Cabana is available to assist guests with all their needs during their stay, including transfer to and from the airport (and other locations) and arranging tours and other adventures for guests.
Mirko Bechstedt purchased this House in 2011
Why Mirko Bechstedt chose Hopkins
Hopkins is a laid back village with beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea and Maya Mountains on the other side. We chose a beachfront lot in the village because we wanted to be central to everything, including the beautiful people in the village. Hopkins has a rich cultural life --and traditional Garifuna life is evident throughout the village.
What makes this House unique
Blue Moon Cabana is centrally located in the village which allows us to soak up the rich cultural life of the village. Local restaurants and other popular establishments are within walking distance from the cabana, but guests can also rent bicycles to get around, too. The cabana itself is high off the ground and steps from the sea --and since the cabana has lots of windows, there are usually fabulous breezes flowing throughout the house. The views from the veranda are stunning! Hopkins is a great base to enjoy day and half-day trips to the jungle, mountains, and cayes. In addition to relaxing on the veranda or on the beach in front of the cabana, there are so many adventures to enjoy in and around the village.

Fantastic deck. Beautiful view.
Great stay. House was perfect for our needs. Saturday night was tough to sleep with the Easter celebration but it was fun to see the vibrant side of Hopkins after a couple of quiet days. The deck is a fantastic retreat. Mirko was very helpful. We would go back.
Thank you guys for staying with us and yes the Easter celebration is very vibrant in Hopkins Village! Hopefully see you one day back here in Hopkins.
Stayed for 18 nights at Blu Moon Cabana and had a great time. The location of the cabana is perfect since it is right in town so there are many places you can walk to and to go to the south end is only a $5us cab ride. As everyone has said before there is no need for AC since the wind blow constantly off the sea so it’s always cool in the cabana. I won’t go on repeating what everyone else has said but I will mention the rooster and the sand flies. The rooster is a pain. Crows at all hours of the night until it’s throat is too sore to caw anymore. If there was a rooster assassin in Hopkins he would have had work. The sand flies are an itchy pain. Like everywhere with sand and sea they are there. Make sure you bring bug juice in the form of a cream. That’s the answer and spray does very little

Ah yes, the rooster . . .
Thank you so much for the great review and all the good insights on the local restaurants as well. So glad you enjoyed Hopkins to its fullest!
Great for our family
The set up of this cabana was great for our family of 4 (2 kids ages 8 & 10). Kitchen was well-stocked (which was nice after starting out in a place with only 4 plates). The porch/balcony was my favorite spot! Vert easy to set up private tours with the property manager. Would stay here again.
Thanks so much for the great review. So glad you enjoyed the cabana and hope to see you again!
This house and the view from the back deck are absolutely amazing. Every detail has been attended to as well. There was fresh fruit and ear plugs on arrival. Plus everything was within walking distance. We can't wait to return!!
And we can't wait to see you again soon! Thank you very much for the great review.
Good value, nice location.
Thank you so much Tim & Kathy, hopefully see soon again in Hopkins.
Great location and view
This is in walking distance to everything. Great view and beach in front of cabana kept very clean. Ate best food on trip here in Hopkins. A couple of screens should get replaced but, other then that place great. Can be noisy at times at night with rooster and birds but, we were prepared for that. We would stay again
Thanks for the great review and letting bringing the screens to our attention. By the time this posts, they should be replaced. Look forward to seeing you in the future!
