Perfect Carmel Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My Husband and I recently had the good fortune of staying in this beautiful home to celebrate my birthday and I can't imagine a more perfect location anywhere in the world to get away, relax, reflect, rejuvenate, and enjoy!

Jennie's home is absolutely lovely, immaculate, and serene. This light filled house has spectacular views of the Carmel River Wetlands and the Mountains at the Mouth of Carmel Valley. Jennie's home in Carmel Meadows is just a few minutes walking distance from one of the most spectacular beaches along the coast with views of Carmel Point to the North and Point Lobos State Reserve to the South. This stretch of ocean is one of the true treasures along the Carmel Coastline and private enough that you can still find solitude there on most days. The only thing trumping this beauty is Jennie's warm and welcoming hospitality. She truly wants you to have an extraordinary experience, and believe me, you will!

Horribly disappointing

  • 1 of 5

This was our first time renting a "home away from home". We usually stay in a hotel or resort. We love the Monterey area, and this was our first time splurging by staying in Carmel. We brought our teenage daughters and wanted to do something special. Owner is an elderly lady, probably in her mid to late 80's. She called us repeatedly prior to our vacation stay to inquire of our arrival time, insisting that we come directly from the airport to the residence. When we arrived at the house late and tired from our traveling journey, she was waiting at the house to make sure we understood her rules and guidelines. She showed us around, and reviewed more rules than we wanted to hear at that late hour, one of which was how to live carefully to keep her "white" carpet clean. At this time she also told us that we weren't allowed to park in the garage because it was "too crowded" and that the washer and drier were unavailable due to "breaking down and flooding by previous visitors" (who according to guest log was over three months ago). We asked if she had an iron and ironing board, and she said she hadn't seen one in 30 years. Note: all of the above was guaranteed in writing when booking the reservation. Come to find out, there was plenty of room in the garage for us to park our car, but she insisted we park in the street all week, which was inconveniently at the bottom of a very steep driveway. An ironing board and iron were also found setup for use in the garage.Morning #1: owner let herself in the front door and was yelling "Hello! Hello!" while walking through the house waking everyone up. She gathered up some stuff and reminded us not to park in the garage and to never lock the deadbolt on the front door because the "key gets stuck". We were extremely uncomfortable, and our teenage girls were totally freaked out.Morning #2 started with a phone call telling us she noticed we had left the outside lights on all night and that we needed to keep those off at night after we returned home. Not that it's anyone's business, but the lights were on due to the lack of privacy and safety issues, most notably because our daughters were sleeping in the room near the front door. By day 3 she was watching the house while lurking in the bushes across the street or sitting in her car, moving garbage and recycle cans on and off the property, and pacing in front of the house directly in front of the main living/sitting room, which made this so-called enjoyable room with

Owner's Response: Hello Monica, I am very sorry that you felt that your stay at my property was less than perfection. It is not my intention to interrupt your vacation in any way. My guest and my property are both very important to me. Normally my guest appreciate the special attention to detail that I provide. The review of the previous guest is a complete fabrication. I did not receive the deposit on time, which is why I needed to verify with Monica. I take great pride in my home and ask guest to do the same. I have had nothing but 5 stars reviews from all other previous guest. Monica never mentioned or addressed any of the issues to me it was only positive remarks mentioned to me.

Lovely home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We (2 couples in our 60s) spent 4 nights in Jennie's lovely home while we explored the Carmel area and the coast down to Big Sur. It was a perfect home base for our adventure. The views from the house and the setting away from urban activity were great. Even better was the easy access to the Carmel River Seashore park. The bird watchers among us were thrilled with the activity. Being south of Carmel and Monterey made the drive to Big Sur a bit shorter and the house is only 3 miles from Pt Lobos which is worthy of a day of hiking itself. The house was comfortable, clean and roomy for the four of us. Having a bathroom for each couple was especially welcome. Well equipped and everything worked. We recommend the house highly for a quiet getaway or home base. If you want to walk regularly to stores, activities or restaurants - maybe not. For all that you need to drive, but only a mile or three. The owner, Jennie, greeted us and answered all our questions. She was also responsive to calls if we had a further question. Altogether, it was a great experience.

A Real Treat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience staying at this great home during the Monterey Car Week. The location was very convenient making traffic management bearable. Jennie is very caring and her communication and follow-up was excellent. The view from the house was awesome and the coastal area nearby is spectacular. The house is clean and comfortable - no shoes worn in this house. We'd hope to stay here again if we have the opportunity and I'd recommend this property to anyone. One thing to be aware of is that the driveway is very steep and not conducive to anyone who is mobility impaired or anyone who has a car that does not have a very strong parking brake.

Charming home, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a home with awesome views, comfortable surroundings, quiet, walking distance to the beach this is it! My husband, myself and our 17 and 20 year old daughters

stayed here and would not want to stay anywhere else! The house is so well stocked that I didn't have to worry about the little things! After adventuring during the day, we would come back, jog/walk to beach for amazing sunsets! Perfect location! The owner, Jennie, goes above and beyond any other, fresh flowers, comfy beds, great recommendations for shopping dining, etc. Thank you so much, Jennie for sharing your home, we hope to come back for a longer stay!! Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

Jennie's home is beautiful - when we arrived it was full of flowers and music (as it so happened, one of our favourite artists!), and the lovely Jennie showing us around. We so enjoyed staying here - we were there for the concours d'elegance, and the associated "car week" in Monterey and Carmel. We found Jennie's conveniently close to all the events we wanted to attend. We loved staying in this beautiful home, and hope to return one day.
