Come enjoy the quiet side of the Riviera Maya at Casa Q our updated 2BR/2BA condo on the North end of Half Moon Bay in Akumal. The ocean is right out your front door with beach chairs and palapas and a walkway right onto the reef protected Half Moon Bay. If fresh water is what you desire there is a lovely ocean front plunge pool right outside our front door or you can sit and read a book beside the Garden pool surrounded by lush gardens carefully tended by the meticulous and dedicated staff.
Casa Q has 2 King Bedrooms both of which have comfy mattresses, fret linens, AC and great cross breezes as well as views of the Bay without getting out of bed. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with en-suite access with one also having access from the main condo living area. The condo is on the first floor so there are no stairs to climb.
While there are many good places to eat in Akumal and the surrounding area, should you wish to cook, the Kitchen has been updated with everything you need to cook a great meal including quality cookware and all of the gadgets you need to cook a simple breakfast to a gourmet meal. The kitchen was recently updated with new Coastal Cottage Cabinets, a double apron front farm sink and butcher block counters. Coffee, juice and milk are provided upon arrival. We also keep the kitchen stocked with cooking basics such as flour, sugar, spices and cooking oils.
With the ocean and pools you may never want to leave Casa Q but when you do you are walking distance to World Famous Yal Ku Lagoon for great snorkeling. For the more seasoned snorkeler Half Moon Bay is a treat though the current, wave action and shallowness of the reef make it less suitable for beginners. And for those that want to swim or snorkel with sea turtles, Casa Q is just 1.5km from Akumal Bay by foot, bike, golf cart or car.
Restaurants close by include Que Onda (Home Made Pasta) , La Lunita (Barefoot feet in the sand fine dining), La Buena Vida (Great food and a beach bar with swings for stools). In town are also Turlte Bay Cafe and Bakery (Great Stickey Buns), Lol Ha, Cueva de Pescaador, Imeldas and the Loncheria Akumalito
We are also 10 minutes to the pueblo of Chemuyil, 15 minutes from Puerto Aventuras, 20 minutes from the Ruins at Tulum and 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The Cancun International Airport is just 75 minutes away and there are several options for transfers. Just ask.
Daily housekeeping is included in your rate as is the use of 2 Beach Cruiser bicycles and 2 Wilderness Systems Sit-On-Top Sea Kayaks.
We fell in love with Akumal about 10 years ago and have bee dreaming about having a home here since that day to enjoy and share with others. We live in Akumal from May through October. We love making our home here and hope you will enjoy it to.
Bruce Pumphrey & Susan Chrest purchased this condo in 2014
As our home for 6 months of the year, we want our guests to feel just as at home. It is equipped as a home with quality cookware and linens. We want you to feel at home in our home.
We are in the quiet north side of Akumal. With the reef right out front and Yal Ku just a short walk away, we are a snorkelers dream. Restaurants are a short walk as well but we are just 20 minutes to Tulum and 30 minutes to Playa del Carmen. Accessible, peaceful, tranquil, beautiful and comfortabl is how I would describe Casa Q.
This property is in the quiet end of Akumal near the Yal-Ku lagoon. The snorkeling right out the front door is absolutely amazing- we spent most of our time exploring Half Moon Bay. We saw needlefish, sting rays, cow fish, angel fish and many many others. The reef that is about half way across the bay is filled with fish and vibrant plants. It was great to have the kayaks and the bikes. We are a family of 4 so we rented 2 more bikes for 6 dollars a day from Hector it was perfect. Bruce and Sue's place has a very authentic feel. Love the artwork and the decorating. Beds are great. My teenage son slept on the futon and it was very comfortable. The Ninja blender was perfect for making frozen lemonade and smoothies. This is our second time staying at La Iguana. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Bruce answers email questions immediately. We will definitely be back soon!
Had a great time in the condo...enjoyed sitting outside listening to the waves. The small splash pool was nice since it's right out the door aND over looks the ocean. We did not use the kitchen do to eating out but it had everything one would need to cook a meal. The Internet was spotty could never hook up to the condos Internet until the last day then all of a sudden it started working. The bike option is nice but are in poor shape..the girls bike was completely flat no pumping would fix that..and the boys bikes also had to flat tires and you could not adjust the seat do to the rust...Bruce did allow us to get one bike from Hector but we didn't realize the boys bike was also flat and by then it was to late..oh well. The location of the condo was nice you can walk bike to several restaurants that we tried several of. It is very quiet and private I think there was only one other group staying at the condos...this could be do to the fact that they r working on several of the other condos so there is construction debris and workers around..they did seem to cut out at around 5ish tho. Would definitely come back again!!
We have experienced many VRBOs over the last few years, and quite honestly this was the best for the following reasons:
(1) The views - the photos don't disappoint, the views are stunning and you never get tired of seeing the ocean waves.
(2) High quality furnishings - whether the beautiful Mexican furniture and tableware throughout or the very comfortable enormous beds and quality bedding, this is a luxuriously appointed condo and you really feel it is a home.
(3) Modern kitchen - this kitchen was almost better equipped than ours at home with a microwave, gas oven, coffee maker, full range of chef's knives and every kitchen necessity including a garlic press. This made a huge difference since we ate mostly at home. We also loved the Pati Jinich's cookbook there so you could make some Mexican recipes - do try the chicken tinga and the pork dishes.
(4) Information booklet - the owners have put together a guide and places they recommend. We would never have known about Chamico's - a beach restaurant off a beaten track if it were not for the guide. We loved the place so much we went twice.
(5) Beach equipment - the owners don't advertise this, but they have a whole array of useful beach equipment for you to borrow which is hugely helpful, there are sand shoes, flippers, beach bags and a cooler - this saves you lot of money if you are going snorkeling on repeated occasions which we did.
(6) Responsive owners - even though Bruce and Sue were on vacation while we there, they were very quick to reply to all our queries however small they might have been. We really appreciated that.
One of our best vacations in a beautiful little beach resort. Akumal and this condo won't disappoint.
Our family of five (2 adults, 3 children between the ages of 5 & 12) had a wonderful & relaxing stay at Bruce & Susan's condo. The pros: GORGEOUS, affordable, amenity-filled property, welcome binder. The cons: no cleaning supplies (ie, broom, paper towels, etc.).
Our "check-in" was a wee bit of a rocky start (the regular cleaning lady was on vacation) and no one showed us around (an intro to the condo & its amenities would have been very helpful). However, Bruce was VERY communicative over email and answered every question we had. We were also in an unusual hurricane/tropical storm situation and Bruce kept us constantly updated on the weather situation.
The condo was SOOOOOO perfect--the stocked kitchen, the snorkeling equipment/life jackets, very beautifully decorated as well. We also LOVED the ocean-front patio table & space. We would absolutely stay here again. Thanks for helping make our trip memorable & comfortable!
Had a terrific stay at La Iguana! The location is absolute perfection - very quiet, away from any crowds, but a quick bike ride or walk to restaurants. And literally around the corner from Yal-ku Lagoon! Kitchen stocked with everything you could possibly need, and a blender straight from heaven! The linens were of good quality, the beds were firm and perfect, the entire condo is situated perfectly with a view to die for and an interior conducive to water activities (tile floors instead of carpet, better for returning from the pool). A ton of snorkel gear, although we had our own to use. Husband took one of the kayaks out and then came right back because the water was a bit rough. There's a super helpful binder in the unit that has maps, things to do, restaurant locations, ratings, some basic Spanish/English translations - we referred to this all the time!
Bruce was fantastic, offering suggestions and assistance, and Hector (the on-site manager) was friendly and helpful and got us an extra bike for the week. Andrea kept us clean and in bath and beach towels and drinking water.
Our only suggestions: Black out or heavy blinds in the master bedroom would be fantastic, as the external hall lights stay on all night long and pierce your eyeballs, and the master bath faucet could use a little love as it's quite rusted. The fridge never got really cold, was more cool-to-kind-of-cold, but we think this maybe had to do with the nature of the electricity in Mexico and not the fridge itself.
We didn't rent a car - we used USA Transfers from and to CUN at Bruce's recommendation. No issues whatsoever finding the condo. There were only a couple of times we did wish we'd had a rental car, but overall did fine without one. Booked a tour of the Tulum ruins and some cenotes, and of course had to bike into Akumal proper for the shuttle. The bikes were a godsend!
DO NOT MISS: Que Onda, right around the corner, on Sundays for the Tacos Al Pastor (I ate 3 at the table, then sent hubs back that afternoon for 4 more, all for me). La Buena Vida, a quick bike ride away, for absolutely everything (we ate there 5 times in one week) - the ceviche is incredible. La Lunita for a "nicer" dinner on the beach (seared tuna was great). Yal-ku Lagoon, so you can feel like you're snorkeling in an aquarium.
For the price and location, La Iguana is such a bargain. We WILL be back! Thanks for everything!
Amazing vacation, where do I start? Loved the condo - very very comfortable. Located at the end of the road, we had the whole place to ourselves most of the time. A/C was a bonus as it was hot and bedding was comfy. I usually do not sleep well when travelling but this trip I slept like a rock. One reason is that we were so busy and in the water all day every day - so much to do! We were tired at the end of the day. We were there at Casa Q for 9 days and though we saw two ruin sites and snorkeled every day - we saw 3 reefs and two Laguna's - we barely scratched the surface of what is there for you. Amazing really. Great food all around in Akumal, plus others the owners suggest in the book in the Casa. We are already looking forward to going back to Casa Q!! For my family this is the best vacation ever - Thanks Bruce and Sue for sharing!!
