Why Eric Watt chose Roseland

My family bought this mountain cabin because of its stunning views, privacy on 26+ acres and it's cozy, rustic charm.

We have vacationed for years in the Rocky Mountains and this place has comparable majestic views!

It is a stone's throw from Wintergeen Ski and All Season Resort, but completely private. The best of both worlds -- world class amenities nearby and complete seclusion.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a fabulous way to completely disconnect and reconnect with the beauty of nature at this gorgeous cabin.

The fire pit with the amazing view was the focal point of our weekend. Watching the stars and the moon rising at night to the birds and butterflies around the flowers in the morning.

Everything you need is inside for a comfortable stay and good night's sleep. Well stocked kitchen and outside grill made for home cooked meals that we ate on the nice screened in porch.

And there is so much to see around we wish we had a week! Crabtree waterfall was a challenging hike but worth every drop of sweat. Ravens roost overlook provided a gorgeous sunset view. And Humpback Rocks is a spectacular 360°of the Blue Ridge mountains.

We hope to be back to enjoy Mountain Laurel Chalet!

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our family has visited Mountain Laurel Chalet 3 times now and it never disappoints. The views are spectacular! We spent starry nights beside the firepit making S'mores and playing guitar. During the day we enjoyed sunrises that crowned the mountains with pinks and purples and corals, then went hiking on the many easy to access trails. If you want to unplug and unwind so that you can reconnect with your family, this is your place to escape!

A Perfect Fall Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had the pleasure of staying in the Mt. Laurel Chalet for a weekend in October 2017. We were looking for a cozy place to stay to enjoy the gorgeous fall foliage. We were not disappointed. The drive up was scenic as we took the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped to take in the view from a few overlooks. We've become quite reliant on our devices to provide directions to wherever we go, so we appreciated the owner's advice to print out info and directions before we left home as the cell coverage is spotty as we ascended the mountain. He was right and we were glad to have specific directions on paper which led us directly to the cabin's private driveway.

As we approached from the driveway, we knew it was going to be just the weekend we were hoping for. The cabin appeared nestled in the golden and rust-colored trees, but then as we pulled around the side, the view of the surrounding mountains was breathtaking.

The cabin was simple and comfortable with everything we needed and tastefully decorated with seasonal décor. We spent most of our time outside watching the clouds morph in the valley. The sweet smell of the pine greeted us in the mornings and stayed with us all day.

We spent a day hiking the beautiful Crabtree Falls about 30 minutes away, taking pictures at the popular Raven's Roost overlook and enjoying time at the family-friendly Bold Rock Cidery in nearby Nellysford.

It was an absolutely perfect weekend for us. Some things potential renters should know:

There is no TV/cable to watch. There is a television with a DVD/VCR player, so bring movies with you if you like. Because there is no access to TV news and no cell service, it might be a good idea to have a family member or friend be your eyes and ears to the outside world. Maybe they can monitor the weather in your area and prepare you with a landline phone call to the cabin for incoming bad weather. We had quite an experience one night when some remnants of Hurricane Nate passed through. One of our sons had a hard time sleeping in the bunk bed that was built into the roof in the loft . He felt the bed shaking and rumbling as the winds gusted through the night. The next day, we had to move some tree branches that were blocking the driveway, but everything else held up with no damage.

We won't hesitate to book this cabin again. In fact, it may have become a new family tradition!

The scenery surrounding this cabin is stunning. Sitting by the fire while playing the guitar under the stars was so restorative for our family after a very hectic fall. The cabin was very comfortable with a completely equipped kitchen and plenty of deck and porch space to enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. We took little trips out to hike Crabtree Falls, enjoyed Wild Wolf Brewery and enjoyed fresh apple cider at a local orchard. The only negative is we couldn't stay longer. If you want to be off the grid just enough to reset this is the place.
