The house is large and airy, with a rustic Mexican feeling. The 5 bedrooms each has a private 3/4 bath. Shared spaces -- including a large living room, dining area, patio and second and third-story roof terraces -- make it a comfortable house for groups. The 2nd-floor roof terrace provides hammocks and seating for relaxing. The house is comfortable but not luxurious, with wireless internet, television, DVD player and washing machine. Linens and maid service included. Casa Loma is located in a safe but lively residential neighborhood near the Lighthouse, and across from a private school, five minutes walk from snorkeling and swimming at Playa Manzanillo, 5-10 minutes to the town beach, Playa Principal. Shopping is within walking distance, and there is a bus stop across from the house that goes to the town market.

Sparky Latham purchased this house in 2010
We've been coming to Casa Loma since 1999, leased it for a while, and finally bought it. We love the authentic Mexican feel of the house and the simple, slow pace of life in Puerto Escondido. We enjoy sharing our house with people who love the beauty, joy and unpredictability of Mexico.
We first stayed here in 1999, celebrating the new millennium with our extended family. Casa Loma has continued to be a special place to be with family and friends. A typical day for us is heading to Manzanillo Beach for an early morning swim, hopping on the bus to the town market to do some shopping and have lunch, taking a siesta or reading in hammocks on the roof, playing cards on the patio, and wandering down the hill in the evening for a casual dinner at Rinconada or on the Adoquin.
Stayed here for a week over Easter with our extended family and we enjoyed it very much.
The house has lots of space and charm - great places for resting (rooftop) and for BBQ in the evening. Beautiful garden and great location with easy access to both city, restaurants, supermarket and beaches.
Everything was as expected and Mara was very helpful with minor things during our stay.
We look forward to staying here again.
The description of the house is very accurate. The neighborhood was safe and the location was great- walking distance to town and beach, and an easy cab ride to any place else. The description of “while not luxurious” describe the house well. We weren’t looking for luxury accommodations. We wanted a place that felt like home… and we did. The only negative (and it didn’t bother us in a bit) is that the kitchen is small. Regardless, we cooked many a good meal!
I can’t say enough about the attention we were given while there. A gardener was there every day tending the fabulous “jungle of a yard”. Mara checked in with us regularly and was very attentive to our needs and answered all our questions plus she was fun to talk to and had a great sense of humor!
All in all… perfect! We can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I stayed here with two other couples. The house was spacious enough to accommodate each couple with our own private bedroom and bathroom, while also providing wonderful gathering spaces in the living room, garden, and rooftop sitting area. We even hosted a cocktail party with some lovely Canadians we met on the beach! They loved the house too! Colorful, well-located, well-equipped - it's a bargain at any price!
Stayed for a week with four other friends and the space worked so well. An abundance of group space indoors and out. Both an outdoor patio or inside dining area for meals. And can't say enough about that upstairs covered terrace. Great for catching the breezes on warm afternoons. Even comes with hammock! A couple of good beaches within walking distance and great restaurants in town. The taxi service is an extra bonus. By chance we were there for Day of the Dead. Not to miss. A great way to experience another culture.
I'm always comfortably at home at Casa Loma. The house is spread out over 3 levels, there is plenty of room for large groups of family or friends. Nothing better than the view from the top floor.
The location gives you taste of the local culture, and everyday puerto life, while being just 4 blocks from the beach. Can't wait to go back!
I stayed at Casa Loma with my wife and four friends for about 10 days. The house was perfect for us. The kitchen made it easy to prepare meals - lots of great fish, fruits, and vegetables at the market - and a short walk or cab ride when we wanted to hit a restaurant. The upstairs patio and hammocks were great for lazy afternoons after a morning at the beach. The house was clean, spacious, and very comfortable.
Puerto Escondido is a low-key spot for relaxing on the beach, eating out and enjoying Mexican culture. Our house is 10 minutes walk from 2 beaches, boat rentals, restaurants and shopping.
