About the property

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, 1 outside shower, (Sleeps 8)

Enjoy the ocean and the sound from this comfortable home. The walk to the ocean is short, and the beaches at this quiet end of Oak Island are uncrowded and spacious. The sun rises on the east end of the ocean front and sets on the west end. In summer, the sunset is viewed from the sound-side deck. As the day progresses, the sound side deck usually has shade by noon while the ocean side deck enjoys sunshine.

Keywords: Located at the quiet, uncrowded west end of Oak Island, NC. Spacious unspoiled beach, clean and natural.

About Carolyn Hackett

My husband and I bought this house to provide a gathering spot for our family so that we could enjoy the ocean and boating activities. The large driveway provides plenty of room for boats and for children to play; the relaxing sounds of the ocean and the sea buoy force us to slow down and take it easy.

Carolyn Hackett purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Carolyn Hackett chose Oak Island

This location is close to the Blue Water Point Marina, 'The Point' and the beach. While our cottage is not ocean front, the walk is short. The beach is usually a quiet, family-friendly spot with plenty of space to claim as your own to enjoy. It is safe to leave your tent or umbrella and gear for the day.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the sound of the breaking waves and the sound of the ocean buoy guiding boats into the Lockwood Folly Inlet. We also love the sightings we often have of dolphins, pelicans, and boats. It is a great place from which we watch sunsrises, sunsets and the stars.

Great Family Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our week at Mariner's Watch and Oak Island. House is in a great location and comes stocked with just about everything you need for a beach vacation. Owner Carolyn is easy to communicate and work with and stayed in touch throughout our stay. Loved laid back feel of Oak Island itself and Southport. Hope to return!

Owner's Response: We were renters for many years before we bought our cottage, and we know how many things we missed in most of those cottages. We are happy you have appreciated our efforts to supply many things you may not have brought but are happy to have available. We hope that when you are ready to return to Oak Island you will remember Mariners Watch!

All I hoped for- and more!

  • 5 of 5

Mariner's Watch was the perfect vacation house for our week at Oak Island! Located on the west end of the island, the house is within sight and walking distance of both the ocean and the sound. The traffic is light making crossing to the beach much safer with grandchildren. A large deck faces the ocean on one side of the house and a smaller deck faces the sound. Both have chairs and tables for outside visiting and dining.

The floor plan really worked well for us. Two bedrooms were located on each side of the center living area. Two bedrooms on one side had private bathrooms. The other two bedrooms shared a bath. The spacious living area Included a well-equipped kitchen, dining area, and plenty of seating for relaxing.

The owner has thought of everything - washer/dryer, hair driers, an outside shower, a beach cart, etc. Before we left, my son, his wife, and our grandchildren asked to return to Mariner's Watch next summer. I can't imagine going anywhere else!

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on Oak Island, and this home was so welcoming. Everything we needed, and more! Very quiet, clean, and the owners were more than helpful. Beach access is a little walk away, but other than that, the beach was great!

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our home helped make your vacation wonderful. Beach erosion has recently affected the shortcut to the beach and we hope the sand will be brought back in to make the walk a little easier, but we know this is out of our control. Do come again!

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the house for a week. We loved how stocked the kitchen was, and the kids with us loved the games, Legos, and beach toys! It was close enough to the beach access that we could run back if we needed to. We had a great time!
