Pine Island is located 40 miles north of the Tampa Bay area, 70 miles west of Orlando, on the coast of Hernando County. Only one half mile long, it rests between the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area to the east, truly a nature lover’s paradise.
“A Place in the Sun”, an old Florida style stilt home, was completely remodeled and redecorated in 2006 with new upscale furnishings, flooring, kitchen and bathrooms. Our beach house is situated on the inland side of Pine Island on a canal overlooking the marsh and bay. The great room, decorated in Tommy Bahama style, has a wood burning fireplace for cool winter nights and a wet bar with an icemaker. The kitchen and dining area open to a large screened porch with a small dining table and seating area. Views of the bay and marsh are some of the most spectacular views of natural Florida you could ever wish to see. The master bedroom is like a Carribean villa with its comfortable rattan bed and fine linens. A balcony off the master suite is perfect for watching the sunrise, reading during the day, or stargazing at night. The master bath has a shower and the hall bath has a tub. Two other bedrooms have queen beds and are tastefully decorated for your guests’ comfort and pleasure. All bedrooms have ceiling fans. Relax in the porch swing on the front porch or go downstairs to lounge in the hammock or enjoy the screened room with a large bar, TV, refrigerator, half bath and dining table. Listen to Jimmy Buffet or your own favorites on the speakers connected to the upstairs stereo. A dock and a 120 foot seawall are great for fishing. Our family has caught redfish and snook and many smaller fish just for fun. The floating dock in the side yard is convenient for tying up the kayaks or docking a small boat. Local guides can take you to catch grouper offshore or trout and redfish inshore. In the late spring or early summer, you can book a guide for world class tarpon fishing. Walk just ¼ mile to Alfred McKethan Park with its beautiful white sand beach and enjoy a 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' at Willy’s Tropical Breeze Café. Just across the street from the house is a small private beach perfect for sunbathing or watching the amazing Florida sunsets.
Wildlife abounds. Great blue herons and white herons are frequent visitors to our docks and seawalls. Eagles and ospreys nest in the area as well as numerous other species of birds. Dolphin and manatees occasionally swim through the canal behind the house. The island even has a few resident peacocks. “A Place in the Sun” is perfect for a couple or family who would like to enjoy the natural beauty of Florida with the convenience of being 1 hour from Tampa, 1½ hours from Clearwater/ St Petersburg and less than 2 hours from the unlimited attractions of the Orlando area.
simply beautiful space....tasteful decorating, comfortable and very well
maintained.....the waterway views from the large screened porch were
worth the trip. Short walk to the Gulf and beach.....a trip 3 generations
loved...thank you for sharing your home !!
This home was spacious, clean and comfortable, located in a beautiful quiet area. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the screened-in back deck where we had coffee and watched the sun rise most mornings. Loved the bikes and kayaks as did our visitors. Our 2-year-old granddaughter could navigate in the house and porches safely on her own, as there are gates at the top of all the outside steps. She was particularly keen on the "little beach" across the road which we usually had to ourselves. This is a wonderful place to stay if you like a natural setting and no highrises.
This is our second time staying in this lovely home, we didn't want to leave, from the fantastic sunrises and sunsets, the beautiful private beach and the relaxing on the the deck every day, we just LOVE it here! Well worth the money
We just spent the month of February at the Island Retreat! What a Great place with everything provided for you. They have bicycles (2) which you can ride to the park at the end of the street or the private beach at the other end. The Kayaks though were our Favorite. Nice to be able to have these available to us! Enjoyed catching some smaller fish and feeding them to Niles the Crane. He seemed to show up whenever we were fishing! If you do decide to watch TV, Netflix and Amazon are options at this 'All Inclusive.' Super location and friendly neighbors as well.
We couldn't have asked for more. This home had everything we needed. It is in a beautiful location on the water with a beach within easy walking distance. There are stores nearby for getting essentials. The owners were easy to work with and responsive to correspondence. We would love to visit again!
This was our first time renting a house and first time using VRBO. We were a little tentative at the onset because we are golfers and staying on an island off the beaten path was a deviation from the norm for us. WOW !!! Sure glad we did. What a great vacation spot. Weiland and Carol have thought of everything in this wonderful, meticulous retreat. The view from the screened in porch in the morning and the sunsets across the road are breathtaking. Golfing, Shopping, Restaurants and Sightseeing are all close by making this property a must see for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
