About Julia Hilton

I have lived in Tucson most of my life (yes, I'm a native!), and would be happy to share an insider's view with guests looking to make the most of their Tucson vacation. I travel extensively around the world but find this enchanted desert my preferred home. I am a retired college professor and now teach meditation.

Julia Hilton purchased this townhome in 2006

Why Julia Hilton chose Tucson & Southern Arizona

I bought this home as a retreat space when I was in the midst of my meditation training. I was most attracted to the fact that while it is close to shopping and other amenities, it is very quiet and private.

What makes this townhome unique

The grounds of this subdivision are beautiful desert landscaping with walking paths and two pools. It is across the street from Udall park, and easily accessible to hiking and biking trails in the Catalina mountains. Everything you need is within walking distance, but the wonderful sites of the Sonoran desert (including the Museum, the National Park, Catalina Mountains, and the University of Arizona) are all nearby.

Excellent! 4.7/5 -

average rating of 4.7 based on 10 reviews

A wonderful home to live in for a month.

  • 4 of 5

Since the home is being sold some of the house was not taken care of . . . i.e. lots of lights were not working, the outside was not taken care of, etc. However, we still liked the place and husband fixed some of the things and the rest we lived with and didn't bother us.

I looked at this property to rent for the month of March 2017 and actually signed a contract but for personal reasons was not able to follow through and had to cancel. Julia was very aggreable to refund me the part of the deposit that she owed me, according to her contract.

The home is very pleasant and the community is quiet and well kept. The pool area has been refurbished within the last couple of years and everyone is very friendly and pleasant.

Julia was very helpful and understanding of my situation.

A lovely month in Tucson

  • 4 of 5

Four adults in our party spent the month of February at Julia's duplex home (joined to one other unit through a shared garage wall). The VRBO pictures and descriptions accurately depict the 2-BR 2-Ba house in Colonia Verde subdivision near the intersection of Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon. The location is very convenient both to shopping (walking distance) and the Tucson sites a renter may plan to visit.

The subdivision is a mix of duplexes and single family homes in a attractive and unique geographic arrangement through the use of short cul-de-sac parking areas. The mature desert landscaping, different exterior building styles, and the lack of road noise contribute to a pleasant peaceful feel. There are two pools, joined by walking paths, with the one by the clubhouse heated in the winter; we used the heated pool on numerous afternoons and often had it to ourselves.

The home itself consists of two separate nice-sized bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom. The master bedroom offers more room and a beautiful walk-in shower, but the 2nd bedroom is very adequate for an adult couple. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything we needed for cooking and more, including a supply of oil, spices, dish soap, etc. There is also a beautiful outside gas grill that works perfectly. The living room / dining room was nice sized, and opened onto the main enclosed patio area. There are two other enclosed patios that may be useful depending on season and sun angle. The interior furnishings are pleasant and not just things from garage sales or Pier 1. We used both the laundry room and garage without difficulties.

This home could earn a 5 star rating, especially in view of the reasonable rent. During our visit, there were a few maintenance items that required Julia's attention, and she responded promptly. There could have been a bit more furniture on the patios for four adults, and some of the bed linens had seen better days. With a little more attention to such minor details, we could have given 5 stars rather than 4 shown. It is fundamentally an excellent vacation rental.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our dog for a month and a half while looking for a property to buy. We loved the location near Sabino canyon, tons of restaurants and Udall park. Colonia Verde is a great little community and we enjoyed the two pools on the property. Julia is so easy to work with and available if/when you need anything. We received a great value for the price and would stay again! Thanks again Julia :)

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This property suited us perfectly for a month away from winter! We especially loved the patios (and the hummingbirds were an added bonus!) Everything we could have wanted was provided, and the decor is very nice. The owner was very gracious and helpful too! We would enthusiastically recommend this town home.

2013 Winter Get Away

  • 5 of 5

The house is exactly as advertised. If anything, the rooms seemed larger than pictured. It was very comfortable with plenty of room for us and our dog. Julia was very helpful with any issues or questions we had and was very responsive to our needs and yet left us alone to enjoy her home. The house is very nicely appointed. Unlike other short term rental homes that we have stayed at the kitchen was very well stocked with items that seemed to be from Crate and Barrel rather than some flea market. She obviously takes pride in maintaining and equiping this home. For us the location was perfect. Udall Park is only a block away and we were there walking every day. Also within a block walk are grocery stores, bagel shop, drug store, hardware store, barber shop, pizza shop, etc. Although it is a very busy area the house is secluded and quite. We hope to be back next year.
