Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for all your help and recommendations last weekend. My wife and I had an amazing 10th Anniversary trip to San Francisco. The apartment we rented from you was PERFECT. Perfect size, perfect location, clean, nicely arranged, and Mary was GREAT! She also made a few great recommendations as well.

We appreciate you renting this apartment to us. We will definitely look you up next time we come that direction. We have already shared our experience and your rental information from Homeaway to a few co-workers. I'd love to leave a review on HomeAway.

Thanks again!

Amazing San Francisco Getaway in Nob Hill!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot recommend this place highly enough--the owners were not only delightful to work with, but incredibly efficient! Everything from scheduling to check-out ran smoothly--this is definitely key to a relaxing getaway, especially when planning an inaugural trip to any city! I have spent time traveling the world for business and staying in apartments in big cities in Europe, Canada as well as the US and this is one of the best gems I've ever found.

Upon arrival, the owners met us on our timeframe and we quickly (efficiently!) exchanged keys and necessary information. They took me to see the apartment and I was so pleasantly surprised--it exceeded my expectations in most every way. I couldn't wait for my friend to park the car and see the place.

Because everyone loves succinct details and solid information, here are bullet points why we love this place!

Neighborhood charm and ease of accessability-Nob Hill is incredibly charming! All within walking distance: Nob Hill Cafe (great Italian!), best breakfast burrito, a few grocery marts within, The Huntington Hotel Bar, Grace Church, etc.

Apartment building- Charming building and homey (especially for an ex New Yorker!), quiet but not stuffy. A few families, a few single people--a good mix of pretty friendly folks.

The Apartment Layout- such a clean, spacious apartment--quite expansive for San Francisco! It's perfect for a couple, a small family or a few friends who want to have a space to really live in for a few days. You can enjoy music or TV in the living room while a friend naps in the bedroom.

The Apartment's Kitchen- what an incredible kitchen! Everything you need to cook a great dinner, enjoy appetizers before hitting the town or entertain. It's PERFECT!

The View from the bedroom balcony-we sit out on the small, but amazing balcony in the late afternoon enjoying wine, snacks and the view of San Francisco!

The owners provided wonderful recommendations and help in the few occasions that we inquired during our stay. I enjoyed working with them and appreciated the way they run their business. There is something to be said for honest, kind people who have incredible places to rent on Homeaway!

This apartment was wonderful! All of the necessities were available if needed. Really close to the trolley and bus lines which made it easy to navigate the city. Quite a bit of space too!

Charming Historic Getaway in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is absolutely an oasis in the city. Kathy has thoughtfully stocked the house with anything and everything one might need to make their stay feel as homey and comfortable as possible. Dishes, pots and pans, and even a little cocktail shaker and bar-ish area is stocked with glasses and a helpful cocktail book. It's very nicely decorated and the bed is seriously the most comfortable bed I have ever had the privilege of sleeping in. I fell in love with the balcony! This apartment is seriously perfection.

If you're not familiar with San Francisco, the location is picturesque with the famous trolleys zooming past on the corner. There is a little market on the next corner, which I wish we had visited earlier in the weekend to stock up on snacks. It's convenient and just a couple of blocks to most places-- which is fine going downhill, but keep in mind that in SF, what goes down must come up!

For those saying that the place is "dirty" or "dated" may not be used to staying in old or historic buildings. Yes, the tile in the bathroom isn't pristine, but it's just because it's vintage, not because it's dirty! They do ask for some light housekeeping at the end of the trip (make sure dishes are washed, throw out the trash, strip the bed).

One minor thing I'd mention is that the building does have an elevator but it is temperamental. Particularly, there was a note asking not to take the elevator to the 2nd floor because it gets stuck and the apartment is on the second floor. It's not a huge deal, but when you're tired and out of breath from walking up 4 or 5 hills, you kind of wish for the elevator. Also, while we were there, someone (not us) did take the elevator to the 2nd floor, so it was stuck all weekend.

Okay but wouldn't rent again

  • 3 of 5

The location is good and the apartment is okay. Dated but comfortable. It was a major hassle to arrange payment, probably took 10-15 emails and calls from me and my EA. Massive pain. Additionally, no real TV, only limited streaming options with no local news/weather/etc...

Owner's Response: Yes, we did go back and forth a few times on the payment instructions. And I welcome the opportunity to share how to book the apartment using HOMEAWAY's interface. If you, as a guest enter your credit card on Homeaway's site when requesting the reservation and I "accept" your reservations, Homeaway will charge you their fee for using the site. The payment is usually 10% of the rent. The payment collected is NOT the rental amount. I charge you directly by sending you an invoice through Paypal. It can be confusing and sometimes guests are concerned that they already paid for the deposit when I send the invoice. This is not the case and you can always login to your credit card company to confirm you weren't charged double for the rent. I'm sorry this was so confusing for you. As for the TV, we have APPLE TV with Netflix. This information is on the listing.
