About Sterling Dorje

As a college student of 19 I found myself on Oahu (I was from Philadelphia) visiting Hawaii for the first time during the Vietman war. At that moment I knew Hawaii was someday to be my home, Maybe it had to do with the ice storm I left back home. I applied with United Airlines and moved out to Chicago, then to L.A. I flew for United for 27 yrs. around the world. Nothing came close. Hawaii was to be my destiny ! I married a very interesting man from Tibet 15 yrs. later and eventually we found a place to call home in Hawaii. We both lived out of a suitcase doing international business together and traveling the world. Now we sell 'memories of a lifetime' and enjoy meeting people from all over the world

Sterling Dorje purchased this house in 2003

Why Sterling Dorje chose Keaau

Living and working in Hawaii is the best you can get ! Sharing our world with our guests brings us much satisfaction. We love our island and the people who make it great. There is nothing like Oceanfront property.. they are not making any more of it..except at Volcano National Park.

What makes this house unique

Outrageous ! The waves, the whales, the pool on the edge of the ocean, the fresh air you breathe in looking down on the crashing waves below. NOTHING LIKE IT ! Now it is TOTALLY GREEN WITH SOLAR HEATED SALT WATER POOL, TOTALLY SOLAR ELECTRIC

Fantastic property for getaway at a very reasonable price!

  • 5 of 5

Amenities were outstanding, everything was labeled very well, the hot tub and pool were kept up and the backyard view was amazing.

The location was perfect for us, it gave us the ability to go between multiple locations and see much of the island within a 30 min drive.

Paradise Found!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to your lovely home. Everything was perfect, great location, clean & well stocked home and don't let me forget the the beautiful pool right on the edge of the cliff. It is obvious that the owners have taken pride in this beautiful home and it was so nice to have spices & supplies in the home. We were in the pool everyday and I ate every meal outside. It was fun to watch the turtles in the waves too. We visited Hilo, the volcano, the tidepools at Kapoho...which were awesome, the fun Wednesday evening market in Kalapana, and lots of beach time on the eastern side of the island. We also spent a lot of great family time at the house. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of paradise with our family. I can not wait to come back and hope to be able to stay in your wonderful home again. Mahalo!!

Gorgeous Seaside Pool on East Side

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved staying here. My favorite memory? One day the clouds had disappeared all day, so at night, the stars were out more brightly than anywhere else I'd seen on the island. We turned off the lights and laid out on the pool chairs and stared up at the gorgeous stars, the ocean crashing and the palm fronds frolicking in the background. It was glorious. The hot tub was hot, the kitchen well-stocked for cooking, the rooms air-conditioned (not that you'll need it with the amazing cross-breeze). If you like privacy and the ocean, you'll love staying here!

Great Place near Hilo

  • 5 of 5

We were at the property last week with 7 people and had a great time. The location is beautiful right on the ocean with crashing waves and pretty views. The pool and hot tub were used extensively by everyone for morning, afternoon and evening swimming. It was very clean and everything worked well. The location was great in a quiet neighborhood near beautiful beaches, Hilo, and Volcano National Park. We would not hesitate to recommend or stay again.

Where do we even begin?

  • 5 of 5

June 24 – July 6, 2017

Where do we even begin? First of all, my husband and I enjoyed EVERY aspect Hale Shangrila had to offer – truly paradise & a perfect vista to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. The weather was absolutely perfect the entire time we were here!

Every morning we enjoyed a cup of coffee out on the patio as well as lunch and dinner – how can you not with the beautiful view of the ocean in your own backyard and the sounds of waves crashing all day/night long? It was a thrill to see multiple sea turtles each day ☺

Our visit to the Big Island included: Akaka and Rainbow Falls, Ahalanui hot springs, Hapuna and Richardson Beach, trips to Kona, shopping on Kamehameha Aveunue in downtown Hilo, Kona Brewery Tour & Kona Coffee Farm, exploring the farmers market, dining at the local eateries in Hilo -- Kaleo’s and Pineapple restaurant in particular, Mauna Kea, and all that Volcano National Park has to offer! The 8-mile trek to see the lava flow into the ocean was absolutely a major highlight we will always remember!

The pool was spectacular specifically on days we decided to stay in or when we came home after a long day of adventures. Also, nothing like a relaxing evening soaking in the hot tub with the background of the waves.

Two weeks is still not enough time but definitely, a vacation full of memories we will never forget.

The pool is wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The pool is a gem, really very large for a home pool. We also loved our own private view of the ocean, very rarely anyone showed up on the rocks beyond the fence. When waves were large one day, we could see a bunch of turtles through the waves. Covered deck facing the ocean was perfect for lounging in rain or sun, although the table gets too covered in ocean spray to eat outside without a clean-up effort. Nice rural feel of the neighborhood, with lots of trees, great for little walks, also shore access nearby on both sides. You pay for privacy by having to drive on a long undulating road, but it was worth it.

Beds are comfortable, although not so sure about the couches by the look of them (fortunately we did not have to use them). Kitchen is large and well equipped, with surprisingly large collection of oils, spices, and condiments. More pool towels would be great with all of us in and out of the pool, but we could always do quick laundry (detergent was in plentiful supply, although we had already bought some before we knew). Pool toys were a bit hard to find - in a box behind the spa. Also the AC in the garage studio is somewhat hidden - look by the bed. All the numerous electrical switches in different places are confusing, but nicely labeled to minimize learning effort, as are kitchen drawers. We figured out most, only could not get the light in the dining room to work.

Living room is surprisingly large. Bring your own movies - the few DVDs in the house were either too old or too sad. Anyway, people are streaming to personal devices nowadays, and Wi Fi in the house works for that.

Overal, we had great vacation and were very comfortable.
