About Dolores Houghton

I have been in the vacation rental business for over 20 years. I grew up in Oakville, Ontario. I have been a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) now a Certified Professional Account (CPA) for over 35 years. I moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1992 to manage my own manufacturing business. I sold the business in 2011 and moved to the Sunshine Coast just outside of Vancouver BC in 2011. This is where I live now in a town called Gibsons, BC

Why Dolores Houghton chose British Columbia Rockies

I loved this property for its beauty. Looking at the mountains and watching the trees sway in the wind is just so relaxing to me. When I lived in Calgary I would visit Panorama every spare minute I had. It was a 2 and one-half hour car ride from Calgary. I like having a property at a resort. The skiing, golf, restaurants, hiking, horseback riding, white water rafting, mini golf and so much more provided many different experiences for my stay in Panorama.

What makes this chalet unique

The mountain views from the living room and the trees swaying in the wind is such a relaxing and peaceful experience. The hot tub with the mountains surrounding you gives me lots of pleasure and relaxation. The view from the front deck allows me to people watch while the views from the back deck provides a view of nature, deer, birds, etc. and all the trees.

The third floor of the chalet has laundry facilities and long-term renters in a two bedroom suite. Central heating, coffee maker, stove top burners, fireplace, garden, terrace, parking, tennis court, central heating. The chalet has full use of all the Panorama Mountain resort amenities, which includes daily planned activities, swimming pools, tennis courts, mini golf, horseback riding, white water rafting, quad (skidoo) rental, bike rentals and children's play ground area. The area also has numerous excellent restaurants and bars, and a massage/spa centre.

Very Enjoyable!

Short 10 minute walk to chair lift or stores, excellent view of the mountains, no distractions and minimal traffic on a quiet street.

We enjoyed ourselves tremendously at this very well located Chalet on a fabulous ski hill.

8 people fit in the Chalet very comfortably and having the bedrooms on a separate floor was very convenient.

Beds were very comfortable and the hot tub just outside the door was a great bonus and was a great wind down from a days skiing.

The whole family had a great vacation and enjoyed the ski hill and this Chalet greatly, we definitely recommend this location and will be returning ourselves next year.

Panorama Perfection

Our rental accomodations were not only a thousand times better than a hotel but actually less expensive. Our family of five actually had a "home away from home". It was just like being at home but in an ideallic mountain setting. We still did all the vacation things but at the end of the day we went "home". It was so much more relaxing than a crowded hotel room. When travelling this is the only way to go. Our vacation rental experience was incredible. We will be going back next year!

Great Place for Families

The chalet provided our extended family with a great place to gather comfortably. The kitchen was well stocked with necessary items, and lots of towels meant we didn't have to bring anything extra. We loved the hot tub after a day of skiing. Beautiful view of the mountains - would come again in a heartbeat.

Buyer Beware

- Short distance to the hill

- Easy booking process

Now to the Cons:

- Towels had to of been years old.

- Absolutely zero bath mats. When you turn on the master bedroom shower the water flows onto the floor when you open the door to enter.

- The two rocking chairs are broken and actually dangerous to sit and recline in. If it wasn't for our cautiousness, the chairs would have definitely caused a hole in the wall if we did not move them away from the wall. A previous review states that a hole was put in the wall from the rocker. You think that would of been a sign to replace the chairs.

- Sparse supply of toilet paper and paper towel (We had to buy our own)

- Tremendously icy driveway that actually scratched our back bumper as there is a high hump to enter onto the driveway.

- Owner failed to make us aware that there was a renter in the basement.

- Impossible to lock the door that is in the basement that goes outside.

- No door knob on the outside of the door that goes onto the deck.

- Deck was full of snow

- the closet had a broken wood chair in it, you think this could of been disposed of before we arrived.

Owner's Response: These renters were the worst I have had in years. They ruined my front door. The wooden frame around the door is broken in many pieces and the metal door itself is bent. The house is not secure at this time. I had a new carpet put in 3 weeks ago and they have badly stained it and pulled it in spots. The hot tub was full of a green jelly like substance reported by new clients that came in the same day as this party left. My hot tub is maintained weekly by a professional company in Invermere. The house was as dirty as my cleaners have ever seen it. This is the quote of the cleaners. Beer cans all over inside and outside the house. Food in the microwave and all over the kitchen. My towels are replaced every year. If the head of the shower is positioned to spray out onto the floor then it will. This is corrected by adjusting the shower head. A very easy task. The cleaner leaves supplies to match the size of the party and number of rental days. The driveway is plowed out and salted by a Panorama Snow removal company after each storm. The renters had trucks so how they would scratch their bumper is beyond me. I was talking to them on the phone while they were parking and nothing was mentioned about a scratched bumper. I have no idea how the door handle to my deck was broken. A handyman will be replacing it tomorrow, as well attempting to fix the door frame and door. My downstairs renters complained about the constant partying and noise. It was these renters that reported to me that my front door had been badly broken while these guests were still there. I have had a five star rating but when guests do this much damage it takes time to recover.

We got our first outdoor exercise shoveling the driveway then enjoyed the hot tub.

We are a group of women who try to get away together to enjoy outdoor activities each year. The Panorama area provided many opportunities and we hope to explore it more. Our chalet was well suited to our group providing a hot tub,large dining area, 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. However the towels provided had passed their prime and a bathmat could not be found. The carpet has just been redone but some furnishings are showing signs of wear .

Owner's Response: Thank you Joyce for your thoughtful comments. I am sorry that you arrived at the end of a blizzard. The driveway had been plowed for you earlier that day but no one had any idea how much more snow we were to receive. I am not sure about your comment on the furniture as it is all less than 4 years old? I was redoing the carpet because a prior renter had put several burn holes in it. My dining room table also has burn marks under the table cloth from the same renter. This will be changed out as soon as I can find a replacement. This all happened in the last 3 weeks and I had mentioned all this to you in a letter I sent you. I will check into the towel situation. Thank you for you rating and we would love to have you as guests again some time.
