Why Tonya chose Black Hills

This house is an ongoing project and the location couldn't get any better. It is clean and provides all your basic amenities and sits steps away from Historic Main Street. The view includes the Bullock Hotel and the location of the murder of Wild Bill Hickok. If you enjoy late night snacks the aroma of Mustang Sally's Grill will be tough to deny. Location, location, location.

What makes this house unique

I instantly fell in love with my home due to it's cute dollhouse demeanor, location, and overall flow.

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I have gone to Deadwood every year for New Years for the past seven or so years. Up until this year, we have normally bought seperate hotel rooms, but we decided to try this rental instead this year. It turned out to be the perfect place for us. Just like in the description, downtown is literally a short walk away. You take a few steps to the parking garage, down the elatator, and you are there. We also really enjoyed the kitchen (which is stocked with plates, silverware, pans, etc). Rather than eating out every meal, we brought our own food to make, and even used the grill on the patio once (which woked great). Another thing about the house we enjoyed was the living room area in front of the fireplace where we hung out as a group. We even dug into some of the board games that were in the house! Finally, Tonya was great to rent from. She always answered my phone calls and texts in a timely manner, she had the house nice and clean for our arrival, and she was very polite and accomodating.

The only negatives I could see (and they are definitely not deal breakers) was the fact that all of the bedrooms were upstairs with only one bathroom downstairs (however the bathroom is very nice and obviously newly rennovated). The parking was also a little tight on a very narrow street (but that is everywhere in Deadwood!).

I would highly reccommend this house to anyone. I know we will look into coming back sometime!

Perfect spot for Deadwood/surrounding attractions!

  • 5 of 5

After a fall-in-love visit to Deadwood in 2010, I convinced three friends to experience Deadwood with me in July 2011. I must have combed through every tourism, hotel, and travel website on the internet to find the perfect base of operations. Thanks to a lucky tip to try homeaway.com, I found the spot. This spot.

First and foremost, I can't say enough good things about the owner. Literally for months she patiently answered all my questions, and had many helpful suggestions about area attractions leading up to and during our visit.

The location is ideal. Walk a half block to the parking garage stairs/elevator, and you're right in the heart of Deadwood's main drag. By car you're in easy range of Mt Rushmore/Crazy Horse, Badlands, Sturgis, etc.

The house itself feels bigger than 1100 sq ft. There are 3 BR, four beds total--perfect for me and my three heterosexual male friends. Each room is nice and cozy. I personally slept in the room with the Janis Joplin blanket, but I heard good things about the other two BR. In a pinch there are also two couches that are just long enough for passing out.

By far my favorite part of the house was the wraparound porch. There's seating enough for several people, a gas grill (didn't use), tables, and amazing views of the Hills. You can also see a good bit of downtown, but you feel just removed enough for privacy's sake.

The kitchen is spacious and well-stocked with enough appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and silverware for Thanksgiving dinner. I can personally vouch for the microwave, coffee maker, and washer/dryer.

The living room has a good-sized analog TV, cable, and a receiver with very decent speakers that I took the time to wire up properly for us and the next tenants. Bring a mini-to-RCA wire from Radio Shack or Walmart, plug it into a set of inputs in the back of the receiver, and your mp3 player will rage the tunes. The WiFi works all over the house and is a great help for your smartphone/laptop needs, especially since 3G, etc. is not reliable in that part of the country.

Also in the living area--two couches, a love seat, easy chair, coffee table, and a four-chair dinette set.

The bathroom's obviously been recently remodeled, including an attractive shower/tub, sink, etc. The shower provides tons of water pressure and heats up quickly.

The one knock on this place is that the bedrooms are all on the second floor, while the only bathroom is on the first floor.

Highly recommended.
