Captain Cook Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1BR Oceanview Vacation Rental Captain Cook, Hawaii USA

Imagine sitting at a table or reclining in a lawn chair, perched on the mountain side above Kealakekua Bay, looking over the southern Kona coastline with an unobstructed view at the 1200 ft elevation. 'Wow', you say, 'the view is incredible!' A veritable slice of paradise, with ocean glistening to the west and mountain slopes to the south. Your soul is at peace. Red cardinals and yellow finches are scampering for food. A canoe race or fishing tournament just might be happening in the ocean near the coastline.

We have such a place - a one-bedroom vacation rental on our working macadamia nut and coffee farm. This is where the South Kona Macadamia Nut Company processes its succulent nut products. The grounds around the rental have citrus and banana trees, but the orchard of coffee and macadamia nut trees comprise the commercial aspect of the farm.

The rental is in the lower level of the main house; a screened-in porch has a kitchenette and futon sofa. Very private.

Open another screen door and the avocado green walls of a large bedroom, complete with a queen-sized bed and tropical furnishings, greet you. The bathroom has a large shower. With a separate entrance, your privacy is assured.

Located on Napo'opo'o Road in Captain Cook on the big island of Hawaii, you are minutes away from the famous Kealakekua Bay and other Hawaiian sites of interest. Swim, snorkel, or kayak; drive around the island; visit the national parks; or, just stay put and soak up the view! Shopping centers are close by as are fine restaurants.

About Meris or Brad

We moved to Hawaii in 1978 from Fairbanks, AK. We built the house and started clearing the land and planting macadamia nut trees. We started the vacation rental in 2006.

Why Meris or Brad chose Kona Coast

This property has a beautiful view of the southern coastline of Hawaii island. It is quiet but filled with sounds of birds. The rental is away from the craziness of Kailua-Kona village and a good place to relax. It is also within excessible distances of water activities ,etc.

What makes this apartment unique

You have an opportunity to learn about macadamia nuts and coffee cultivation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a beautiful place!

It's a paradise!

We've loved everything: fruit trees, flowers, landscape, calm, music and overall our hosts.

They are very generous and hearty.

We'll recommend this place to anyone.

What a view!

SK Vacation Rental offers you simple elegance, convenience and comfort--and did we mention the awesome view of Kealekekua Bay?! Experience life on a working mac nut farm (yum!) in the beautiful rural ambience of South Kona. Awaken to the dawn chorus of myriad birds, and fall asleep to the gentle pattter of Kona's famous misty rain (where all that green comes from!).

Your hosts Brad and Meris will do everything they can to make you comfortable. (And Brad can give you a lot of inside information on the history and sociology of South Kona). Co-hosts Blackie and Kai will be your best friends if you bring them the occasional biscuit.

While in South Kona be sure to: (1) visit Pu'uhonua O Honaunau (Place of Refuge) and snorkel at Two-Step (Honaunau Beach), (2) rent a Kayak from Ehu & Kai's on the bay (follow the signs) and paddle to the Capt. Cook monument where you can beach the boat and snorkel (and if you are lucky, the dolphins will come swim with YOU), and (3) have a down-home Hawaiian-style dinner at the Manago Hotel (we recommend the famous pork chops).

Great property!

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable place to stay. We loved the screened in kitchen area and the view it afforded. Beautiful property! If you are not sure footed this space will not work for you as you have to park on a slant and walk over uneven ground to get to the door. The shower stall was small as well. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay here.

Beautiful view! Loved eating dinner on the lanai.

My husband and I had a great stay at Meris and Brad's place. The bed was very comfy, the place was clean and the kitchen was well equipped (although we did not do a lot of cooking). The photos were accurate. Meris was very responsive when we needed anything. We liked this location; we drove north on one day and drove south or stayed local for our other 2 days. We rented snorkeling gear from Kona Boys, which Meris recommended and snorkelled at Two Step where we saw turtles, dolphins and a great array of fish.

the VIEW!!....proximity to arguably the best snorkeling in Hawaii...

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to the Kona side. We have spent a month on the Big Island and think we made the right choice. We do not like the hotel/resort scene, so are very content with the relaxed atmosphere and the variety to be found in vrbo's and the like. This place fit the bill....well equipped, comfortable, lovely grounds, fresh fruit off the trees! The owners were available if needed. We would recommend this place to anyone with their own transportation. It is thrilling to be so near the historical site associated with Cap't. James Cook and all of the other Hawaiian historical sites, though we wish the State of Hawaii would take a little more pride in them....need more historical on-site plaques!

Loved our stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our opportunity to experience this little slice of Hawaii! Away from the crowds, the heat, the noise, and the glitz, this property was perfect for us. The fantastic view from the screened-in porch/kitchen and the patio, nice furnishings, high quality construction throughout, beautiful vegetation, and super hospitality combine to make this a wonderful choice. Two-step Beach (well-known for its rich and easy in/easy out snorkeling), the City of Refuge (Pu`uhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park), and Captain Cook's (Kealakekua) Bay are all a short drive down the hill. We highly recommend this property and hope to return some day.

Stunning view from the slopes of Mauna Loa

  • 5 of 5

I'm not sure we would have made it up from the street to the property with the Mustang we rented on Oahu before our stay on Big Island so I'm glad we had an SUV here. You probably don't need 4WD for those 50 yards, they are tarred most of the way. We didn't miss anything in the property and it was all nice and clean at our arrival. The property is quiet and secluded and the owners respected our privacy. We even got a little tour of their MacNut processing facility and got our clothes washed at the end of our stay. The main attraction of course is the lanai with insect nets instead of glass windows out front and to the side. Now my wife wants one, too, once we get a house. Unfortunately in our part of the world the view from it will not be nearly as spectecular as on Big Island ;-) Anyways, we had a very relaxing stay and were reluctant to leave.
