Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

There are no next door neighbors at Lazy Bear's Rest. All you'll see from the deck is the view. Situated at the edge of 25 acres certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, Lazy Bear's Rest is the perfect romantic getaway for 2 in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sightings of deer, wild turkeys, or even a bear or bobcat are possible.

The experience begins on the deck of this 900 square foot luxury accommodation. Enjoy the long range view of the Piedmont, Sauratown Mountain and Hanging Rock.

Once inside you'll be swept away by the interior. The living area includes a 50'' HDtv hooked to a home theater system, DVD, and CD player, gas log fireplace, full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, ice maker, and everything you need to cook that special meal or cook on the gas grill on the deck.

The spacious bath is decorated in the Art Deco style. The bedroom, also done in Art Deco, has a queen size bed. In the closet you will find two fluffy robes to use after enjoying the sauna or hot tub, both located on the deck. In the evenings you can snuggle around the outdoor firepit.

For the outdoor enthusiasts, there is plenty of hiking in the immediate and surrounding areas,

A short hike from the cabin will get you to Lazy Bear's private spots for getting away from it all. Steps to the deck overlooking the spring pond make it easily accessible. Take a thermos with coffee and watch the sunrise from 'The Rock' at Lazy Bear Vineyard. Keep walking past Lazy Bear's Vineyard to access the short wooded path to Lazy Bear's private waterfall. There's a picnic table there, so you can pack a lunch or bring a book and listen to the water as it flows to the bottom of the mountain.

If you want to explore beyond Lazy Bear's neighborhood, we are convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt Airy, NC (Mayberry USA), New River Trail, Mabry Mill, Devil's Den Nature Preserve, Historic Hillsville, Olde Mill Golf Course, Blue Ridge Music Center, Rex Theater, Levering Orchard (seasonal outdoor theater), Chateau Morrisette, West Wind Winery and many more area attractions. Special events nearby include Floydfest, Galax Fiddlers' Convention, Autumn Leaf Festival (Mt Airy) and the Hillsville Flea Market. Numerous antique shops are within easy driving distance in Mt Airy and Galax. You can enjoy wine tasting at Villa Appalaccia (music events in the warm months), Shelton Vineyards, West Wind Winery (music events in the warm months), and Old North State Winery.

No pets are allowed on the property, so please make arrangements for your furry and feathered friends prior to your arrival.

All couples over 21 are welcome.

About Carol Hodges

We've been enjoying Fancy Gap since 1999 when we purchased our property. Having lived here full time since 2003, we can't say enough about Fancy Gap and the surrounding area. Personally, we enjoy the peacefulness and serenity of Fancy Gap Mountain. The views are spectacular and, on a clear evening, we can see all the way to the lights of High Point, NC! Our interests lie outdoors - whether it's hiking, riding our ATVs, or sitting on 'The Rock' looking out over the Piedmont. It's all here - come see for yourself.

Carol Hodges purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Carol Hodges chose Fancy Gap

We live on the mountain and built Lazy Bear's rest in 2004. Our goal was to create a place for two people to get away from it all and enjoy each other's company. It's worked. We've had two weddings on the property. It's not unusual to hear that our guests are honeymooning or celebrating an anniversary.

What makes this cabin unique

The Art Deco theme of the interior is not often seen in the mountains. When you're outside, you can walk to our private waterfall or Lazy Bear's Rock. Sit by our little spring pond and listen to the birds. Meditate on the medicine wheel. It's all here for our guests to enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a nice time at Lazy Bear and greatly appreciate all the views and amenities available to us. We barely left the property as everything we wanted was right here.

A quiet peice of mountain paradise.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful views from the deck and even better views from the common property below the cabin of the valley and mountains in the distance. Abundant wildlife seen, including a mother bear with three cubs, several turkey, numerous deer and an owl that hunted in the woods while we enjoyed the fire pit at night. The hot tub was fantastic! Lots of sights to see right there in this community, including the covered bridge, private bass pond, waterfall and wonderful table and chairs perched high on a granite rock overlooking the valley and mountains.

Very Nice Cabin

Everything we expected for a quiet weekend. A couple of the reviews we read had us worried about the privacy but no worries at all once we arrived. Everything we were hoping for.

Stunning views from the deck overlooking the valley below. Cozy, whether it's by the fireplace or in the hot tub. Cruise down to the property below for a picnic or stroll to the falls (wear hiking footwear). Great time! Perfect getaway.
