About Rachel Hess
My parents live in California and bought this house because they come out to visit the grandchildren so frequently. I have lived here for over 10 years and love the community. I am an educator, working with expectant and new parents. My wife is a teacher and has worked in the public school system for over 10 years. We have two small children and a large cat.

Arizona is in Boston!
Enjoyed the property. Close to the train station. One room has a short ceiling but is very spacious and comfortable. Two bathrooms were wonderful! Nice and clean.
Clean, spacious, well-located but a little noisy
Rachel’s place was great for me and a friend. Plenty of room, and loved having two bathrooms. The floors above were quite thin, so might not be a great spot for light sleepers—very easy to hear dogs and people walking and talking upstairs. The location was perfect for visiting friends in Jamaica Plain.
More Pros Than Cons
This apartment is actually the basement of a house that is already divided up into two or three other apartments. Upon entering you encounter the living room, which has a very low ceiling, about 6 1/2 feet tall maybe. It is extremely claustrophobic but the ground-height windows help somewhat. There is also a small table and washer and dryer in this room plus a full bathroom directly off of it with a small step up but the same ceiling height.
A few steps down from the living room and you are in the kitchen. Finally, some head room and a decently-appointed kitchen with everything you would probably need. A bit further on and another step down into the bedroom and master bath area. The room is nice and large with plenty of headroom. The bathroom itself is tiny and the shower stall is more than tight. If you are a bigger person like myself you will need to choose between elbows hitting the wall in the master or head almost touching the ceiling in the other shower. The only other issue with the bedroom is you can hear the upstairs neighbors clomping around at times.
Overall the furnishings are fairly nice and the place itself feels homey and clean. The location also is okay, it was as easy to get places as anywhere else in Boston (i.e. plan on taking about 25 turns to get anywhere). The manager was amazingly helpful, one day we locked our keys inside and she helped us out without complaint.
For the price I would recommend this apartment, but it is more of a crash-pad than a long-term stay option. If you are planning on being out and about quite a bit and not in the living room for extended periods of time I think it will work out well for you as a base of vacation operations.
We spent a long weekend, location and price were great. Could walk to several shops, restaurants and to the Orange T line.
Comfy and cozy
Rachel was very helpful and accessible. The apartment is well located in JP. I would love to stay here again
What an adorable place!
We loved our stay at Heron! The room was perfect and the hostess was extremely accommodating! We'll DEFINITELY return next time we're in Boston! :)
