The location was perfect for me; it was less than a 10 minute walk through quiet neighborhoods (I felt very safe.) to the Stony Brook (Orange Line) T stop. The bed was comfortable. Great internet connection. Rachel was very helpful and responsive to my questions. I would stay here again.

Very nice place, but definitely a basement

  • 3 of 5

I enjoyed my stay. The bed was super comfortable, the furnishings more than adequate, pots and pans and plates in great shape. The only minus is that it is definitely a basement, so little natural light, and a slight mildewy smell - which goes away when you turn on the A/C units in each of the rooms. Well maintained, well organized, nice host. Thank you.

Spacious apartment in terrific neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I just spent four nights at Heron House. Jamaica Plain is a very lovely and diverse neighborhood, full of beautifully restored Victorian homes. Great for walking and close to a Whole Foods. Don't miss the Old Havana restaurant on Centre Street; best Cuban cuisine I've ever had.The apartment itself is very well appointed and comfortable, including a washer/dryer, which is wonderful when on vacation.Easy access to the subway and only 20 minutes to downtown Boston. Rachel, the owner, is also very, very responsive and helpful.

While the positives far outweigh the negative, there are a few: The living area ceiling is about 6 foot, so it does feel a bit claustrophobic for taller people (not a problem in the other rooms). Because it's a basement apartment, you can hear almost every footfall from the tenants on the first floor. And if you're looking for something right in the heart of Boston, be aware that Jamaic Plain is not that neighborhood. As I said, however, the negatives did not retract from an overall wonderful stay.

The place was clean and convenient to everything especially public transportation

  • 3 of 5

Parking is not provided and that's listed in the description of the property, although street parking can be a challenge. there are very explicit parking rules and regulations that aren't always obvious. I did end up getting a parking ticket. The description of the property lists in the notes that there is no air conditioning. this turned out to be one of the hottest times in Boston, so air conditioning would have been nice. The Keurig coffee maker always overfilled the first cup of coffee for some reason. I think they just needed bigger mugs for the coffee maker

Winthrop me.

Handy and safe

  • 4 of 5

I am if nothing else brutally honest. Let's be clear. This is a basement that has been retro fitted with kitchen and bathroom. There are low ceilings and it is dark.

However, this basement is done so tastefully and furnished with sharp, neat and clean Ikea furniture, you forget your in the basement.

The neighborhood is great and safe. The T is close by. Parking can be tricky after 7 or 8 pm. You may have to hunt a little but generally you will find one but it will likely be a block away.

It was brutally hot and humid during our stay and the fans were helpful.

Would i stay again ? sure. Would suggest to others? sure.

The owner immediately made herself available although I didn't need to call her.

Bad experience beware

  • 1 of 5

When I booked I would have appreciated the owner to be up front that there is no ac had I known I would not have booked 5 nights when I found out it was to late to cancel she stated the heat was not unbearable there were fans well it was unbearable for me and my traumatic brain injury husband. I would have appreciated honesty from her considering the temp is almost 90. I stayed one night left for hotel ifeel she has an obligation to be honest in heat of summer let people know it did say it in the short term stay very small on last line did not see it so beware being honest is not priority for some people!!!!!

Owner's Response: I'm sorry you had such a poor experience. It does state clearly on the listing that there is no AC. I'm sorry you felt I was dishonest, and I believe what I said was that many guests felt the fans were enough, though I can't speak for everyone. I also did refund you for a full night, even though we have a 30 day cancellation fee. Again, I'm sorry you had a poor experience.
