About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8-11)

Shoal Bay cottage will carry you away from the chaos of daily living and you will feel like you have stepped into another world. The peace and tranquility in this secluded setting is all about relaxation! The sound of the wind blowing through the pines and the aroma of the wooded areas and folliage adds to the Cottage experience. My favorite is early morning coffee on front porch with porch swing and two chairs with table. You will hear a rooster crowing and it is not uncommon to see a curious deer walk by. Springtime brings bursts of color and flowering dogwoods! Fall has breathtaking color perfect weather. Road to cottage is paved except for approx. 2 city blocks of dirt/gravel road. Cottage is 2 miles from Hwy 22. My country directions - when you see entrance to Shoal Bay Park, turn right on Bayview Drive, go one block turn right, still Bayview Drive, go around the curve, up the hill and it is the 3rd place on the left! 363 beside front door. No mailbox.

The master bedroom has a king size bed with lamps on both sides and TV/VCR, dish/DVR. The middle bedroom has a queen bed (pillow top mattress) with beautiful antique dresser and ceiling fan, reading lamp. The sun room across back of house has double iron bed and single iron bed and recliner, TV/VCR. Windows surround this room with breathtaking view of back yard with tall pines, several kinds of birds, squirrel, deer and other wildlife can be observed at various times! Hummingbird feeders and bird houses. This room has back door opening onto deck with chairs and table, as well as gas grill and charcoal grill. Wrought iron table with four chairs in back yard near rock garden. Volleyball net and volleyball. Dining room/living room with day bed with trundle underneath. There is a full w/d in laundry room. Spacious kitchen with island and equipped with everything you could need. Pak and Play provided. Den is very cozy with wood stove, comfy couch and love seat, glider chair, Satellite TV with DVR. Beds are comfy and linens provided.

About The Owner

I lost my husband last year from a long term illness and I retired from 30 years as a medical transcriptionist. I have stayed busy the last year converting my rental into a nightly rental - Shoal Bay Cottage. This has been a dream of mine and has been a challenge, but I have enjoyed it. This cottage has a special place in my heart and I hope others can feel the peace I get when I am there. It has transformed beautifully but I will always be making improvements as I am able.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose Arkansas

My husband and I bought this house 15 years ago after love at first sight. After living there for a while we moved back to town (Paris). He had a roofing business and it was difficult running it from out there. Also my six grandchildren live in Paris with many activities I attended. So - the lake house became a rental; now converted to a beautiful cottage which will accomodate two families.

What makes this house unique

Fishing, walking, boating, swimming and friendly neighbors. Everything is so close, even a good home cooking restaurant as well as a store with gas, grocery items and bait. It is secluded though in a convenient location. Walking distance to the lake/camping area. Beautiful playground, well maintained. Gorgeous sunrise and sunset over the water!

It also is very convenient to lots of hiking trails and 4-wheeling trails as well as walking distance to kids playground, fishing, swimming, and boat docks. Only a 2

I'm at a loss for why people LOVED staying here. We have stayed at other VRBOs and this didn't align with what we expected out of a 5-star rated property. Beds were nice, but the house was cluttered and in need of some TLC. I don't mind rustic and I'm not a neat freak, but this place was on the shabbier side of the spectrum. Ants were also a problem when we stayed. On the pro side, the owner was responsive and the rental was easy to set up.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry my place was not what you expected. No it is not pristine and perfect, but I pride myself on it being very clean and comfortable. I'm not sure where the clutter is unless it is my "junk" closet or in the outdoor shed as I have no clutter elsewhere. There is a reason that I have gotten mostly five star reviews, as well as wonderful notes from guests. I have a lot of returners who love it. As well my prices are way on the low side. Most guests are surprised and very pleased when they arrive and love all the supplies that are provided for the entire stay. My check-in and out is very flexible. As far as the ants, out entire state has been overrun this year. I have lavender oil available for ants and it has worked very well so far. My place is certainly not shabby and again I am sorry you saw it through different eyes than most.

So many memories

  • 5 of 5

Went out for a night with some of my college friends for a last get-a-way before the summer, a very cozy house while it was raining. Will definitely stay again!

Easy

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this transaction was how a vacation is supposed to be. Easy. From contacting her to arriving to checking out, it all was simple and quick. The place was nice and clean allowing us to quickly fit in and get settled. She was always available nice. The house was the most well stocked rental we have been in making it feel like we went to stay at a friends house who was kind enough to give us the master bedroom. I spent a lot of time looking for different rentals and this was by far the most value for the price range especially with how many beds! We had a fantastic time and would definitely look to come back again. Thank you Elaine!

I feel this property was misrepresented.

  • 1 of 5

This property has only two things going for it. It can sleep a lot of people and it is centrally located between nebo and magazine. It is not secluded as you can see and hear neighbors on three sides. It is not surrounded by woods. It is very dated and not well maintained. The water pressure is practically non existent. This place made me very leery of using vrbo in the future, as once you see the place if it is not up to your standard you have no recourse.

Owner's Response: I have to say I am shocked to get this review! As you can tell ALL my reviews have been great and I have a lot of returners! My cottage is very clean and comfortable. The water pressure is the norm for rural city water. As a widow I maintain it the best that I am able. There are woods on two sides, shrubs on one side and sets back off the road, very private. It is a very quiet area, I hardly ever hear the neighbor next door or across the road. It is also walking distance to the lake/park with playground, hiking, fishing, and swimming. I am sorry your impression is totally different from previous guests for the past 5 years.
