About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Bonnie and David designed and built this house in 2008, and have lived here since. We love living in Hawaii and the Mountain View area. The climate is cooler and pleasant. I am a carpenter and design and draw house plans. Bonnie works in the social services sector. We enjoy meeting people and are looking forward to having guests in our home.

Our rental is perfectly located, 20 min. from the Volcano National Park and the Kilauea Caldera. 30 min. from Hilo. The second story apt. is 600 sq. ft. with a full kitchen and bath, king bed, twin day bed as well as a spare cot and crib are available. A private lanai over looks the garden and forest. A quiet place to relax after a day of exploring the island. We provide TV, wifi, spices and condiments in the kitchen. Our rental is centrally located for exploring the entire east side of the Big Island. Hope to see yo soon Bonnie and David

Beautiful place off the beaten path

  • 5 of 5

The craftsmanship and decor of this place is beautiful! It has an "old Europe meets Hawaii" style. The kitchen has most every condiment and spice you could need. The bathroom was well stocked as well. It's off the beaten path, but we liked that it is remote. It's like being in the jungle. The tree frogs are loud, but cool. The mosquitoes are bad, so if you get bitten easily apply insect repellent when opening the gate and going from the car to house. My husband was fine, but they love me. The location is perfect for exploring the volcano. It's about a 20 minute drive, so we spent the days hiking in the volcano, returned for dinner and a rest, then went back to see the volcano at night.

Bonnie and Dave are great hosts. We mostly spoke with Bonnie and she was very sweet and helpful during our stay.

Exceeded our expectations in every aspect

  • 5 of 5

We could not believe our eyes when David gave us a tour of the appartment. It's so well kept and clean... it has everything you can expect and then more. Everything was provided, from condiments in the fridge, to a bowl of fresh fruit (amazing idea), beach towels and flashlights. The location is at first very confusing, but it kinda grows on you and you really feel like you're living in the jungle there, it's so peaceful. David was really discreet and we didn't get to meet Bonnie, we would have loved to be able to socialize a little more, but to be honest, we were always out early in the morning and back late at night.

David and Bonnie, maybe you should share the exact GPS coordinates with guests because even when you have all the directions and you're arriving at night, under the pouring rain and in the fog, it can get confusing. Other than that, amazing stay!

Ever so nice!

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated and thoughtful amenities...including flashlights for trekking out to the volcano at night. Only suggestion would be clarification on driving directions...not easy to find when coming in after dark.

Amazing and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

First of all, I thank David and Bonnie for their warm hospitality. within an rural environment, it was beyond our expectation to stay in so luxurious place. Everything within the rental property is very sweetly decorated and well equipped. Staring from fruit basket, kitchen amenities, furniture feels our mind with great happiness. As it is in rural environment, the property is some extent away from main city / town but that is the beauty of the property. You can see lot of stars at night. hear the songs of birds in the morning and enjoy the florals within the premise. We had an excellent time and wish to stay longer.

Really, really loved our stay here!

  • 5 of 5

Every attention to detail in this beautiful garden...better than we could have imagined. The location allowed us to easily visit Volcanoes National Park from above Halema 'uma 'u Crater, and below to Kalapana Lava viewing area and Hilo and Black Sand Beach...and then we had to go. The owners are excellent and provided local inspiration for our visit!

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We had stayed in David and Bonnie's condo three years ago. We returned because our first experience was so positive. This time we were not disappointed. The kitchen was well stocked and we were greeted with a bowl of fruit. David was there to greet us and show us around. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit the Puna area.
