Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing us to stay at your home this past weekend. We found everything to be in good working order and as correctly represented on VBRO. However, we found the master bedroom door a bit snug and difficult to close.

A Good Value

  • 3 of 5

Our family of 3 adults spent Thanksgiving at this property. The owner was very easy to deal with answering questions in a timely manner. We also had a note from the caretaker stuck to a door with another phone number to contact in case of problems.

I found the property clean and cozy. The family room seating is comfortable and welcoming. The bedrooms were small but adequate. However, the door of the master bedroom needed to be lifted to shut and the arrangement of the closet and bathroom doors was such that they were propped open so that if you needed to shut the bathroom door a chair had to be moved. Also the bed in the master bedroom was up against the wall so you could only get into the bed from one side as there was also a footboard on the bed.

All of the appliances in the kitchen were in good working order including the washer and dryer. There is no dishwasher. There are plenty of dishes and glasses but only a few pots and pans.

By far my favorite part of the house was the deck. It looks out into a wooded area that leads down to the lake. I could only get a glimpse of the lake from the dock but could hear animals moving in the leaves in the morning and found animal tracks in the mud near the lake. There was outdoor seating and a large picnic table for outdoor dining. The fire pit was supplied with wood (although the fireplace inside the house was labeled inoperable). The path to the lake was easy to follow and the floating dock was easy to access.

It took us approximately 30 minutes to get to Anderson and 40 minutes to arrive at Clemson University (45 on game day).

If you are looking for a place of luxury or a place for a large gathering this may not be your best choice. However, if you are a small group (2-4) looking for a good value I would recommend booking this property.

Poor customer service

  • 1 of 5

Talk about a rude renter to rent from!! Never did she acknowledge our problems that we had while staying. My daughters shoes were left and I had sent email after email asking for them. She said the cleaning company said it was awful... Well when we got there it was awful!! Musky towels.. Holes in couch. Bedding well you mise well sleep on the floor... If you want a renter with a serious attitude towards her renters and someone who doesn't try and understand problems as we tell them about her property, don't rent!!! The neighborhood is very scary... A trailer across the street with 2 very scary dogs chained up. Bad bad neighborhood. Not safe !

Owner's Response: I have already responded to this group of renters so I will copy and paste what I wrote to her mom.I am sorry that the renters did not have a good time at the rental though they did state in an earlier email that they had a good time. At no time during their stay did they call or reach out to me to say that they had any problems. I have two maintenance people there that could have fixed the dock, changed out the grill, and changed the light on the path. All of the recent rain had knocked out that path lights. To say they were surprised that it was a modular home means that the description on the VRBO site was not read as it states that it is a modular home. The homes on this street range from $100k to $500k. Obviously this was not the home for them. Before they checked into the home I sent them a letter advising them that the lake was up and to use the dock next door that I own that house as well. I do not rent that home it is my private get away and I asked them to use my double covered dock as I would not be there when they were. As for the showers I sent a plumber as soon as I received their email (after they checked out) and the plumber said the showers were draining fine....that there was no problem. When I sent the cleaning company in they advised that they had never had such a mess to clean up. I'm sorry they did not enjoy the home but many others have enjoyed their stay at the lake.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had the absolute best time at this awesome place. The home is like your at your own home. The short stroll to the lake was really nice, we really enjoyed the back porch, you were so secluded. For anyone looking to escape reality, this is the place for you. Thanks to owners for working with our crazy booking. You know how it is to get 6 women on the same page!!! We will definitely be returning.

Less than advertised

  • 1 of 5

We rented this place while we were searching for our own lake home. As it happens, before we rented, we finalized the purchase of our own home on lake Hartwell, and actually closed during the first week of our two week rental.

On the second night the direct TV went out. We called the owner, tried diagnostics, but never reacquired the satellite during our stay. The multiple stairs down to the entrance are very dangerous with no center stringer. They sag and wobble, and threw me to the ground on one occasion. Internet connectivity went away with the TV. Floor under second shower has rotted out...spongy to stand in. The driveway is so steeply sloped and narrow that you can forget about parking more than two very small cars there. We had a two week rental...stayed only 5 days, with no TV or internet. Didn't ask for any refund...it was enough to just get outta there, and begin the move to our new home!!! btw...I never saw any lake from the house during my stay. My wife hiked down the path to the water, and said it looked nice.

Not as described, very disappointing!

  • 1 of 5

First, I'd like to state I have never written a bad review. I've debated but decided I should write an honest review based on our experience. When arriving at the neighborhood we were shocked at first sight. It looked like a really shady trailer park. The trailers were pretty run down. We arrived at the rental, again shocked that is was a modular home. There was no dishwasher, the beds were extremely hard, the sofa was torn half across the back, one shower was clogged and both felt as though they were about to fall in. The place looked clean inside for the most part but smelled musky. The grill was rusted and we could not use it. The dock to this rental was under water so Tanya said no one would be in the other rental, to use that one. On our second morning there the dock had drifted almost into the neighbors. My husband had to retrieve it, wrench it in and tie it off. The lighted path to the lake lights were all broke so we couldn't access the lake at night to fish or go on a nite time cruise. The place is small overall. There is no where to store any sizable amount of food. With all this said, my family and I decided we would make the best of it, which we did. The lake is absolutely beautiful. Upon return I decided I would write Tanya to let her know of the issues of the home so she could repair before she rented again. Her response was great. She said she would refund an additional $100 for our troubles. I then emailed her twice to see if they found my grand daughters shoes. 11 days later she refunded only the deposit but had not replied. I emailed her again about the refund and the shoes and told her I didn't want to give a bad review. She then responded 2 weeks later that she didn't refund the $100 because her plumber said the drain was fine, we used the towels and the place was filthy. This was totally untrue. I had all the dishes washed, the comforters on the beds, the towels on the washer and everything straightened up. This is what is usually expected due to there is a cleaning fee. There were no instructions to clean. I did over look the instructions to bring your own towels, which I apologized for. We brought our own sheets as requested. I don't quite understand why you have towels if they are not to use. I had to wash them before use due to they smelled musky. I feel the owners rude and offensive response to a customer, the time in which she responded, overpricing and deceiving description of the home earns this rental no stars.
