Why Property Manager chose Marathon
I fell in love with the beauty of the land and the serene feelings it evokes. I spend many hours sitting on the back porch looking at the unobstructed backyard view of desert and distant mountain ranges and the spectacular sunsets. I also love the friendly, small town atmosphere and the many interesting people who live there.

Plenty of room; Cold showers
There's plenty of room, we were two families and there was lots of space both in and out of the house. Great view of the mountains west of Marathon. My only complaint is that the hot water worked in spurts of a second or two and then a steady stream of not colder than warm water with shots of straight cold. That'll wake you up in the morning! The little ones and the wife were not fans of this.
A Quick Place to Stay
This rental was fine, it had plenty of room and was clean. I wouldn't choose to stay here for an extended period of time, but it was great for a quick place to sleep. Nearly everyone that walked through tripped on loose tiles that are coming up in the back living room area. One of the bathrooms had a note that solids don't flush, which apparently includes toilet paper so that was kind of a pain to deal with. The tubs also were quite stained, which is fine for some people but we didn't feel comfortable showering in there. And the floor in one bathroom has a hole/soft spot which will definitely trip you when walking across the floor. But the beds were comfortable and the house had everything you would need for a stay. Lots of clean towels and plenty of dishes in the kitchen. And the chair in the living room was comfy!
Thank you for your comments. We are working on getting the needed repairs done on the house. Here in Marathon we have to get in line for workers to perform these kinds of tasks. We are unsure what is meant by the "stained tubs." There are a couple of patches in the tubs, and unfortunately the color of the patch material does not exactly match the color of the tub, but it is all clean. We appreciate your concern and your patience.
Excellent Vacation Home Outside Big Bend
We stayed in this property for several days on our vacation to Big Bend and loved our time. I would love coming back to this area again and staying in this property. The house is spacious with 2 living rooms filled with couches/chairs, a kitchen and a dining room, 4 bedrooms, and 3 baths. Our party of 9 was slightly larger than what the property officially sleeps, but even with someone sleeping on one of the comfortable couches, we still had more than enough space. The back porch and yard were great for hanging out and star gazing and even for eating when it wasn't too cold. There are TV's in one of the living rooms and in one of the bedrooms, however they are fairly old. This property could use a little TLC (some cracking and loose tiles on the floor, and one of the bathrooms that connects two of the bedrooms has a pretty significant "soft" spot/indentation in the floor) but it's certainly nothing that can't be overlooked and was never a bother or a worry at any time. Even though you have neighbors, the property is nicely spaced out to give you plenty of privacy. We drove into Big Bend every morning and spent the days hiking, and we loved having this place to come back to. There's a small grocery store in town where you can get most of what you'd need. Bottom line, this is a reasonably priced, cool and spacious property in a good location if you're looking to spend some time in the Big Bend area.
