About the Property
Cute, cottage style house on 450 acres.
The houses, barns, corrals and outbuildings are in a cluster at the center of the 450 acre Ranch. The Lake is an easy quarter mile walk from the house. The house has homesteader history too.
The Cobblestone is charming, comfortable and ready for a family of 4 or a romantic couples get-away. The house is one level. There is also a separate office with desk and chair.
Please Note: There is a Log Home 50 yards away also available for rental, sleeps 12.
About the Cobblestone House:
Walk anywhere you like on the 450 acre Ranch or just relax, relax, relax. On the Ranch there is a private trout lake, about eleven acres in size, several beaver ponds and three year-round live creeks. The lakes and ponds offer trout fishing to guests and is within easy walking distance for all. If river fishing is what you are after the Stillwater River is only 10 minutes drive, Rosebud Creek the same distance and the Yellowstone River is only 20 minutes drive away. Because of the abundance of water and tree cover this section of land draws wildlife of all kinds. Wildlife is often spotted walking through the Ranch, and photographic opportunities are abound!
Views, Fishing and Wildlife:
At the Ranch there are outdoor activities like walking, sightseeing, photography, swimming or fishing at the private lake. The Ranch is a short distance to spectacular hiking trails, mountain biking, white water rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, the famous Beartooth Highway.
The route to Yellowstone from the Ranch is breathtakingly beautiful, going over the Beartooth Highway to the Top of the World, then through the historic mining town of Cooke City. We are next door to a 11,500 acre unique sculpture park and classical music venue called Tippet Rise Art Center.

- The Cobblestone has interesting features only found in a historic home. If you would enjoy a sense of history while at the same modern conveniences, then this is the place for you. The floor makes a creaking sound when you walk on the hardwood, there is a bow in the kitchen floor as it is the oldest part of the house. There is no dishwasher, however, a drying rack and dish drying towels are provided. We love the original farm style sink which allows for the authentic experience of early Montana ranching days. We provide pellets for the decorative glass front stove, with lighting instructions, if needed. The house is all one level there is one step to come up in order to get into the house. Inside doorways may not be wide enough for some wheel chairs. Most of the sights, including the lake can be driven to, however, we would prefer you walk if it is muddy so as not to leave deep ruts in the paths around the Ranch....moreless

Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: Lee and Roxanne Dunn enjoy sharing the Log House and Cobblestone House with vacationers while living in year-round in another house on the Ranch. Lee and Roxanne grew up in Colorado, and both moved to Montana in 1989 and 1992 respectively. The Ranch is chemical free and everything is grown according to organic standards. We forage many edible and medicinal wild plants.
Why the Owner Chose Fishtail, MT, USA:
Lee and Roxanne were attracted to this area because of a combination of wide open space and mountain views. The section of land that the Ranch is located has a lake and three creeks which are flowing year-round. This makes it special because it draws all sorts of wildlife.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The vacation homes on the Ranch are up to date with all the comforts of home, yet the backdrop is spectacular, with breathtaking views of the Absaroka Beartooth Mountains and wildlife passing near the houses. Guests can enjoy walks in the aspen grove, cottonwoods, grass fields, and creek bottoms. The ranch is a peaceful and a quiet place to stay and one can have as much solitude as you like. But if it is activities that you desire there are plenty of those on the ranch and nearby. Another added benefit, is the peace of mind knowing that the Ranch's owners lives on the ranch in a separate house and can assist guests, if needed. We are next door to Tippet Rise Art Center, a 11,500 acre - one of a kind - sculpture park and classical music venue. See www.tippetrise.org for more information.
