The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Lake James

The location puts you right in the middle of so many activities, and the lake is relaxing and fun. The double decker dock and clear fresh water beg you to stay and float, kayak and boat.

Awesome

Staying at this house is like living in the most gorgeous tree house ever. Once on the porch, you never want to leave. The lightening bugs were very entertaining, and we found an endangered passion flower. The passion flower is exquisite, and it was a rare treat to see this growing wild on the path to the lake. My congratulations to Donna Lewis for providing such a natural and beautiful habitat for some of our endangered species. This is the most beautiful place ever. Also, immaculately clean.

Woderful time. Great house with great location. It was all they said it was and more. Incline of path leading to lake was very steep. Difficult for elderly to go up and down.

Definately recommend to all considering. Cant wait to go back.

Incredible Escape from the Daily Grind

  • 5 of 5

I arrived with a group of friends around the end of May, so right at the beginning of lake season. The house is located in a very nice neighborhood tucked away in Nebo, outside of Marion. At first glance it is impossible to appreciate the full scope of the what the home has to offer. The house itself is so spacious and there is careful consideration given to livability. We had a group of 6 and at no point did we feel crowded or even obligated to overlap on amenities. The kitchen was fully furnished and more than adequate in the preparation and feeding of 6 grown men. The bedrooms were much larger than in most rentals and also well appointed. This home did not strike us as a standard vacation home with furniture and decorations inherited from a main home after a redecoration. This house was well-conceived and there was no question that the owners sought to provide an experience that was a step above the norm. The deck outside was massive and made grilling/eating outside a real pleasure. The view of the lake is beautiful and you are just far enough from the neighbors to carry on lively conversation without worrying about causing trouble. The lake itself...just wow. The dock is a 2-level affair with included Kayaks and various accouterments that really open up the activities available on the lake. There were boats and skiers on all days...but the lake is large enough to where we were able to kayak at any time of day and not worry about intersecting with larger vessels. We spent as much time on the dock as we did in the home...it was that impressive.

Local amenities were pretty close. Asheville was a 45 minute drive and we managed to get an Uber for around 90 dollars. Not a huge deal if you have a big group. We did our grocery shopping at Wal Mart which was maybe 15-20 minutes away. Getting a pizza delivered was also no problem on Saturday night. I realize not everyone prioritizes a pizza delivery on vacation...but I can't tell you how many times I've rented a house in the mountains only to realize i'm going to have to drive 45 minutes to get a loaf of bread, or that after 10pm I have no shot at getting food delivered. This house is in the country, but by no means disconnected from the rest of the world.

To wrap this up, the house was amazing. The group had several conversations about how we should buy a house on Lake James. Leaving was tough. By the end of the trip I had passed on the Homeaway info to everyone there.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your detailed, glowing review. You pretty much summed it up! It is hard to tell from the front view how spacious the house and deck are! The lake, with 150 miles of shoreline, provides plenty of fun & tranquility, whatever you prefer. Glad you all enjoyed your stay! Come back any time, if you haven't already bought your vacation home on Lake James!

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at Donna's Lake House. We brought a boat and tied up to the doc. The water is very protected from wakes and traffic. Many of the neighbors floated and swam in the peaceful water. Open water is about 100 yards away and great for fishing, water skiing and sight seeing. The dock was nicely equipped with kayaks, chairs, and life preservers. Getting to the dock was on a paved road but is is steep, not recommended for elderly unsure footed folks. The house had a large covered deck overlooking the water with a BBQ, tables, sofa, and many chairs. It was a great place to relax especially when it rained. Inside was furnished and outfitted just right. The only think we needed was a knife sharpener and a good garlic crusher. I would definitely rebook and return when our next visit to the area is planned!

Wonderful lakeside vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is perfect! We had a lovely time hiking, visiting local sites and enjoying the views. We loved sitting on the dock watching the wildlife on the lake. We were here for Thanksgiving. The kitchen was very well-equipped for preparing a full spread for the holiday. Great time, great house, great setting!!!

Another Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had another great stay at the Lake house. So peaceful and relaxing, just want you really need on vacation. The expanded deck is wonderful, our family spent most of our downtime time side on the deck. The grill is a great addition from last year as well. I look forward to returning again very soon.
