Keywords: Beautiful Riverfront Lodge by Mt Index, on the Skykomish River. Very close to Stevens Pass for skiing and other hiking, The most popular hiking trail in WA is Lake Serene, the trailhead is about 5 min from the lodge. Other Hiking, Skiing, Rafting, Rock climbing and Fishing are just a few of the activities. Deck with hottub and propane bbq looking out over the river, king size bed, and premium queen leather sleeper sofa, pet friendly. There are 3 waterfalls to see that you can walk to. All are about 1 mile walk in either direction from the lodge. There is Canyon Falls, Sunset Falls and Eagle Falls. This was newly renovated in 2011 with flat screen tv, full kitchen, free wifi, washer/dryer.
I bought this bit of paradise in 2001 and have been renovating the property since then. I'm so excited to now share this beautiful site with other travelers. I love to travel and have paid attention to what makes a place feel like home and to try to include those amenities that make a place feel special, warm and cozy. I fell in love with the property because of the view of the river. This location is right on the bend of the South Fork of the Skykomish River and comes right at you while your on your deck and goes by you. So you can look up the river and down the river. You can see Mt Index as you drive into the driveway but can't see it from your deck. But you can see the Cascades from your deck and Philadelphia Ridge. Just down the road is Sunset Falls that I walk my dog down to. I love this area and hope to share it with you.
Melissa Bailey purchased this studio in 2001
I bought this place because it was just beautiful and I always wanted to live in the woods. The best thing is that its close to town, the ski resort is just 25 min away. Leavenworth ( a cute little Bavarian styled town is just a little over an hour away over the pass). Seattle is about 55 min away if you wish to engage in the nightlife, shopping, or theater. Snohomish is about 45 min away and is quite the Antique town! Lots to do here. I love to hike and walk with my dog and feel like I'm just immersed in nature but yet close by some stores and culture too.
A breathtaking view of the river, since you are right on it. There is a small beach access just up the road and great to put in your innertube and float a bit.
HIking is plentiful here with numerous hikes all around. Lake Serene Trailhead is just down the road. Heybrook is an easy hike up to a fire lookout tower. Barclay Lake is easy with just 2 miles and a gorgeous lake. The Iron Goat Trailhead is terrific for the history of our great railway and some wonderful view points. Plus in the winter Stevens Pass is just 20 min away!
Kayaking and Rafting are plentiful and I'd highly recommend going. Its a full day of super fun. This is a class 5 river and wild at parts. You can walk around the wild parts if rapids have you scared. Its best to bring up your food and grill or cook here but there are plenty of restaurants that are between 8 and 20 miles away.
Fishing and rock climbing and photography also are highlights of this destination.
This is fairly private. I have a few neighbors. I'm close by but tree's and brush keep things private between the buildings.
Satellite TV with new large flat screen tv, dvd player and free wifi makes things comfortable when the weather isn't conducive to being outside.
For those coffee/latte lovers there are numerous coffee places to get that favorite java up and down Hwy 2. The closest is probably just up the road past Index at The Espresso Chalet.
I also have an electric charging station for those that have electric cars.
I hope you'll come up and stay at South Fork Lodge.
Thank you so very much for having us! WE had a wonderful time enjoying the waterfalls in the area and enjoyed all the nature very much. Best of luck with all your future endeavors! We hope to visit again some time!
This place is gorgeous! My husband & I both felt that the photos on the website do not do this cabin justice. When we stepped through the doorway, we both thought that we were entering the owner's own home at first & boy were were thrilled when we realized that was where WE were going to be staying.
The cabin has everything you would need from books to entertainment (we used neither but it was all there!) to robes & plastic wine glasses for the hot tub (we did put those to good use!) & a fully stocked kitchen that had all the proper cooking items we needed for every meal & a great BBQ for our steaks.
The inside of the cabin itself looks brand new & the design is so beautiful. The wood floor, walls, & ceiling are absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen counter top, the decorative lighting on the ceiling, the high table & chairs to be able to look out at the river, the fireplace... all of it is just stunning.
The bed was very comfortable, the shower had a wand-style hand-held head (which I always appreciate) & there was a nice basket of toiletries in the bathroom for items one may have inadvertently forgot to pack (again we did not use but thought it was so nice to have).
The hot tub is located outside on the deck with some nice deck lighting & was a very nice way to end the day. The deck also has chairs & tables (& citronella candles) that we used for sipping morning coffee & playing evening card games. Oh! And the hummingbirds. The hummingbirds stopped at the feeder very frequently & were so fun to watch - one was a bit of a bully, always chasing away another little guy.
Around the corner of the cabin is a fire pit that we also used one night to just relax & enjoy talking about why we were there - to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary.
We met Melissa when we first got there. She was very happy & upbeat & showed us around, answering any questions we had, & then left us alone to enjoy the cabin & each other. We saw her again as we were heading out. She came out to see how we liked our stay & was glad to hear that we loved it.
We very much look forward to returning one day soon!
P.S. Thank you again, Melissa, for the delicious bottle of red wine you left for us for our anniversary. And also with the anniversary card and little insert for 20% off our next stay. Unfortunately we lost the little card but do hope we can still use the offer in the future as I want to come back already!!

Location location location!
This place has it all. We were looking to get away for a long weekend. We love the mountains and the water and hit the jackpot with Melissa's home. Inside was exactly as advertised, only better. We really enjoyed the hot tub and spending long afternoons on the deck listening to the river flow. In the mornings I woke up thinking it was raining, but it was the river. So peaceful! Melissa was extremely easy to communicate with and was extremely helpful. The big book of things to see and places to go was extremely impressive. I can't say enough about this place and would love to return for a week (or more!). We spent the days hiking in the area and the evenings on the deck just staring at the beauty around us. Rent this place and you will feel the same as I do. I can't wait to go back!
My husband went for a peaceful retreat where he could focus on work without distraction. The space was perfect. He came home refreshed and accomplished. Thank you.
My husband and I spent our 16th wedding anniversary at the South Fork Lodge. Could not have asked for a more beautiful setting. The view from the deck is both peaceful and gorgeous. Close by is Sunset Falls which is a must at sunset. The Lake Serene hike, pretty intense near the top, but soo worth it when you are sitting on Lunch Rock overlooking the lake. A perfect setting for an anniversary getaway!
If putting your feet up and relaxing isn’t what you came up here for, there are plenty of activities to get your blood pumping and your body feeling exhilarated.

Heading East from Gold Bar, a very popular hike is, Lake Serene Trail and Bridal Veil Trail. The trail head is just down the road from the Lodge and one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve been on. A gorgeous mineral green lake greets you after a steep 3.5 mile hike, with Mt Index soaring straight up from there. If you want a shorter hike, its just 2 miles up to Bridal Veil Falls. What greets you here is a sheer granite rock face with a cascading white veil of water coming off it. Plus a picturesque view of the valley below. http://www.gajos.org/travel/serene/
Other incredible hikes include Heybrook (1.5 miles up) magnificent view from the fire tower at the top. Barclay Lake Trail (2.2 miles up) An easy hike to the serene lake.

Up Hwy 2 further is The Iron Goat Trail, Where the Great Northern Railway used to thunder by through the Cascades is now a wonderful interpretive site with numerous hikes and trails, some for bikes and wheelchairs. There are various hikes along this area. Some are as short as .6 miles round trip, and others are as long as 8.6 miles one way. So come up and get a history lesson and some grand views at all the look out points.
There are plenty of other hikes in this area and you can head up to the Ranger Station, past Skykomish for more maps and details.
A few other waterfalls close by is Sunset Falls and Eagle Falls. Sunset Falls will greet you as you drive by on your way up to South Fork Lodge. Its a nice little .8 mile walk to view it more closely. A nice beach area is just across from the Falls and is terrific to take a dip in during the summer months. Eagle Falls is just up Hwy 2, go about 2 miles East of Index and there is a little area to pull off on the side and hike down to see it. Great swimming holes here too.
Can’t wait for snow and ski season? Stay at South Fork Lodge and your just 20 minutes away from Stevens Pass Ski Resort and you’ll be able to get plenty of time to buzz down that hill and enjoy all that fresh powder. http://ridestevenspass.com. They have at least 37 major runs and various trails and fun for all down hill skiing, snow boarding, sledding, and a lodge to warm up in.
