Property description

Come up, visit and stay at South Fork Lodge and let nature wrap its arms around you. Drive through breathtaking views of Mt Index, Sunset Falls, and the beautiful rolling Skykomish River. This Washington River Front Cabin Rental is your home away from home on your Cascade Mountain Vacation. South Fork is an easy drive from Seattle, about 55 miles; Redmond, about 42 miles; Bellingham, about 98 miles; and Leavenworth, about 65 miles.
This little piece of paradise offers tons of activities close by! In the summer there are numerous hikes, lots of fun fishing holes to find. Terrific kayaking, rafting, and swimming, biking trails and rock climbing just name a few. Or just sit back in your own oasis and enjoy the serene views at this River Front rental. In the winter there are just as many fun thrills with down hill skiing, cross country skiing, snow boarding, snowmobiling, and sledding up at Stevens Pass Ski Resort which is about 20 minutes away.
Immerse yourself into this newly remodeled and decorated studio that accommodates one or two comfortably. Let the soothing sounds of nature allow you to soar into blissful pleasures. Enjoy the view from all the windows that face out on the bend of the river. Sit and relax in the comfy furniture, before a rustic rock framed propane fireplace and watch tv or read a great book. Put up your feet outside on the deck that spans the whole studio and read, write, relax and enjoy the view. Bring up your food and cook inside in the fully furnished kitchen or barbeque on the deck.
Soak in the hottub at night and watch the stars, hear the river, get lost in this sweet paradise. Sink into the fluffy comfort of the king size bed and let the sound of the river take you away into sweet slumbers.

This is a hideaway for a one to four people. Terrific for that busy person who needs some quiet time to get away, think and pursue big dreams, or a couple who wish to get away from it all and enjoy a romantic weekend, or anyone that just wishes to be close by all the wonderful scenic beauty the Index area has to offer.

Open the door to the spectacular 650sq ft ground floor rental apartment, that has just been renovated. With large windows offering an unparalled view of the Skykomish River and Philadelphia ridge. Knotty pine, hardwood floor and a stone fireplace provide that beautiful rustic cabin feeling, but with modern conveniences.

This is a perfect hideaway for anyone to just think, dwell, be inspired, connect, and get away from the monotony of life. Come on in, put away your luggage, hang up your coats, and put your feet up after a long day of hiking or skiing.

Come in to comfy furniture to sit in and a tall dining table one can sit at and enjoy the view of the river. With a full kitchen that wraps around and all the windows look out on the river, you'll have great views no matter where you are and what your doing. With a great propane barbecue on the deck you can just immerse yourself into the peaceful scene and cook here. Or head out within 8-20 miles and enjoy some eating out at various restaurants in Gold Bar, Start Up and Sultan.

New pillow top king size bed will allow you that deep sleep you've been needing. Large bathroom with shower, sink, toilet and washer/dryer will give you those needed amenities, which make it nice for longer than a nights stay. Also a new leather queen sleeper sofa if you wish to come with children or another couple or family members. It is a Studio, so all one space but roomy.

The deck spans the river and has a hot tub and seating and a barbecue for grilling.

South Fork Lodge is close to many hikes, Lake Serene Trailhead and Bridal Veil Falls are just down the road and offer some pristine beauty. Wallace Falls is in Gold Bar and a great hike to 3 waterfalls. There is a book in the lodge that goes over many other hikes and some maps to get you where your going.

Rock climbing is all around but the most famous is in Index at the Index Wall.

Rafting and Kayaking is very popular and many companies can give you one wild ride down this river.

Fishing along the Skykomish river is popular with lots of fishing holes!

Stevens Pass is home to all that winter fun activity and is just 25 minutes up Highway 2 from your lodge.
So come on up for skiing and snow boarding and sledding!

You are just moments away from wonderful activities all around you at this place. Its a very beautiful and warm and cozy newly remodeled place that will take your breath away at the view.

If putting your feet up and relaxing isn’t what you came up here for, there are plenty of activities to get your blood pumping and your body feeling exhilarated.

Summer fun:

Just up the road from the lodge is the town of Index, which is a charming little historic town with a small grocery store, post office, museum and the famous Index Wall for those rock climbing aficiando’s. Some classic routes offer a 3 star climb, with the names Godzilla and the Town Crier.Check out this website for more details. If your not up to scaling the wall, its fun to sit down below and watch them scale that sheer rock face.

Also in town is a wonderful rafting and kayaking company called Alpine Adventures. Rafting along the North Fork of the Skykomish offers some wonderful scenery and the exciting boulder drop. I’ve done this rafting trip and its quite exhilarating! They really take care of you and show you the ropes and provide all the equipment and a great meal at the end. also offers some terrific rafting experiences as well, they are located in Sultan.

If your into Fishing, come on up and catch some trout, steelhead and salmon. Lots of various fishing holes to be found on both the North Fork and South Fork of the river. This site may provide more information for your fishing experience.

There are numerous hikes up and down Hwy 2. From Gold bar, which is about 8 miles from our road there is Wallace Falls State Park. This is a 4,735 acre park with many waterfalls, rivers, biking trails, hiking trails and rock climbing.

Heading East from Gold Bar, a very popular hike is, Lake Serene Trail and Bridal Veil Trail. The trail head is just down the road from the Lodge and one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve been on. A gorgeous mineral green lake greets you after a steep 3.5 mile hike, with Mt Index soaring straight up from there. If you want a shorter hike, its just 2 miles up to Bridal Veil Falls. What greets you here is a sheer granite rock face with a cascading white veil of water coming off it. Plus a picturesque view of the valley below.

Other incredible hikes include Heybrook (1.5 miles up) magnificent view from the fire tower at the top. Barclay Lake Trail (2.2 miles up) An easy hike to the serene lake.

Deception Falls (1/2 mile nature loop) Terrific place for a picnic, pit stop, or short hike around the breathtaking falls and crystal clear creek.

Up Hwy 2 further is The Iron Goat Trail, Where the Great Northern Railway used to thunder by through the Cascades is now a wonderful interpretive site with numerous hikes and trails, some for bikes and wheelchairs. There are various hikes along this area. Some are as short as .6 miles round trip, and others are as long as 8.6 miles one way. So come up and get a history lesson and some grand views at all the look out points.

There are plenty of other hikes in this area and you can head up to the Ranger Station, past Skykomish for more maps and details.

A few other waterfalls close by is Sunset Falls and Eagle Falls. Sunset Falls will greet you as you drive by on your way up to South Fork Lodge. Its a nice little .8 mile walk to view it more closely. A nice beach area is just across from the Falls and is terrific to take a dip in during the summer months. Eagle Falls is just up Hwy 2, go about 2 miles East of Index and there is a little area to pull off on the side and hike down to see it. Great swimming holes here too.

Can’t wait for snow and ski season? Stay at South Fork Lodge and your just 20 minutes away from Stevens Pass Ski Resort and you’ll be able to get plenty of time to buzz down that hill and enjoy all that fresh powder. They have at least 37 major runs and various trails and fun for all down hill skiing, snow boarding, sledding, and a lodge to warm up in.

Just down the road 5 more miles is the Nordic Center that offers 25 km of groomed trails for those cross country skiers.

If your not in the mood to cook, there are various restaurants down from the Lodge, in Gold Bar, Start Up or Sultan, or head up into Skykomish for a bite to eat, below are a few of the choices.

Gold Bar:

La Hacienda, Mt View Diner, Prospector’s Steak and Ale house, Zeke’s Drive In, Gold Bar Restaurant, and Rico’s Pizza (Take out).

The Sultan Bakery, Sahara’s Pizza, Peking Chinese Restaurant, Ixtapa Restaurant.

Alpine Drive In

Skykomish: (Up past Mt Index Rd about 20 minutes)

Cascadia Inn cafe and lounge

Sky Deli and Liquor

Leavenworth: (About 1.5 hrs East of the Lodge)

Bavarian themed town, great for shopping, hiking, rafting, and theatre.

I hope you’ll end up feeling like your mind, body and soul finally had a wonderful vacation here.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2001

About the owner: I bought this bit of paradise in 2001 and have been renovating the property since then. I'm so excited to now share this beautiful site with other travelers. I love to travel and have paid attention to what makes a place feel like home and to try to include those amenities that make a place feel special, warm and cozy. I fell in love with the property because of the view of the river. This location is right on the bend of the South Fork of the Skykomish River and comes right at you while your on your deck and goes by you. So you can look up the river and down the river. You can see Mt Index as you drive into the driveway but can't see it from your deck. But you can see the Cascades from your deck and Philadelphia Ridge. Just down the road is Sunset Falls that I walk my dog down to. I love this area and hope to share it with you.

Why the Owner Chose Index, WA, USA:
I bought this place because it was just beautiful and I always wanted to live in the woods. The best thing is that its close to town, the ski resort is just 25 min away. Leavenworth ( a cute little Bavarian styled town is just a little over an hour away over the pass). Seattle is about 55 min away if you wish to engage in the nightlife, shopping, or theater. Snohomish is about 45 min away and is quite the Antique town! Lots to do here. I love to hike and walk with my dog and feel like I'm just immersed in nature but yet close by some stores and culture too.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
A breathtaking view of the river, since you are right on it. There is a small beach access just up the road and great to put in your innertube and float a bit. HIking is plentiful here with numerous hikes all around. Lake Serene Trailhead is just down the road. Heybrook is an easy hike up to a fire lookout tower. Barclay Lake is easy with just 2 miles and a gorgeous lake. The Iron Goat Trailhead is terrific for the history of our great railway and some wonderful view points. Plus in the winter Stevens Pass is just 20 min away! Kayaking and Rafting are plentiful and I'd highly recommend going. Its a full day of super fun. This is a class 5 river and wild at parts. You can walk around the wild parts if rapids have you scared. Its best to bring up your food and grill or cook here but there are plenty of restaurants that are between 8 and 20 miles away. Fishing and rock climbing and photography also are highlights of this destination. This is fairly private. I have a few neighbors. I'm close by but tree's and brush keep things private between the buildings. Satellite TV with new large flat screen tv, dvd player and free wifi makes things comfortable when the weather isn't conducive to being outside. For those coffee/latte lovers there are numerous coffee places to get that favorite java up and down Hwy 2. The closest is probably just up the road past Index at The Espresso Chalet. I also have an electric charging station for those that have electric cars. I hope you'll come up and stay at South Fork Lodge.
