About the property

Luxurious Log Cabin Near Breckenridge Ski Resort

Pinecone Mountain Cabin is located between Fairplay and Alma just South of Breckenridge. The home is only 20 minutes from World-Class Skiing in Breckenridge. It is in the heart of the South Central Colorado Rocky Mountains and has almost every outdoor activity imaginable to offer to it's visitors.

This spectacular 3 bedroom/3 bath full Log Home has all the amenities you can imagine. It has the charm of a mountain log home and the luxury of a villa. The home is tastefully and luxuriously decorated in mountain decor. All of the rooms have custom log furniture and decorations. It is located on a secluded 10 acre property that is densely wooded with Pine, Spruce, and Aspen. The home also has mountain views from the large deck, living room and loft.

There are 3 large bedrooms. One bedroom is located on each of the three levels. The upper level has a king size bed in the master bedroom and private bath with beautiful log furniture. There is a private deck off of this bedroom where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the mountain wildlife. There is a flat screen TV to enjoy at night in the bedroom. The upper level also has a huge loft with circular cozy leather sofas to enjoy the beautiful mountain views. There is a large flat screen TV with satellite TV which has all of your favorite shows.

On the main level there is a second bedroom which also has a queen bed with custom log furniture. The bath is located right across the hallway for this bedroom. This level also has the luxurious kitchen, dining room, and family room. The kitchen has marble counter tops, stainless appliances and all the amenities a chef might want. The dining room has a gorgeous wood table which also has two leaves to seat a maximum of 10 people. The large family room has floor-to-ceiling windows with a cozy wood-burning fireplace. The seating is all comfortable leather furniture. There is a door opening to the expansive deck which has a new gas grill and a brand new Wind River Therapeutic hot tub with fabulous views.

The third and lower level has a huge game room with a flat screen television, Foos-Ball and lots of fun games for the entire family. There is a third bedroom on this level with a queen size bed. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa and 2 twin bunk beds on this level. Both kids and adults will love this level for family fun! There is a door which opens to the tiered steps leading out the warm and welcoming fire pit and outdoor gathering area.

The outdoor setting for this home is just gorgeous. There are tiered steps leading down from the deck or lower level to a gathering area which has comfortable wood deck chairs surrounding a fire pit where you and your family can enjoy a warm summer fire and toast marshmallows. The brave can bundle up and build a fire and watch it snow in the winter (my favorite thing to do). Whatever season you choose to vacation, this home will offer you comfort, luxury and memories that will last a lifetime.

This home is only 25 minutes from the 5 star ski resort of Breckenridge. There is also snowmobiling, sleigh rides, ice skating, alpine tubing, and much more. Pinecone Mountain Cabin is very close to many of the 14'ers which so many people come to Colorado to climb. Whether you are a climber or casual hiker, the area has beautiful trails to enjoy right from the property. If you are not into hiking, there are always horses to ride, white-water to conquer on a raft, snow shoe trails, cross country skiing, and many many other activities to challenge each and every person. If you are just into beautiful drives, there are many that we can recommend with old mines and pioneer towns to explore. It is just an awesome place to stay. You will never be bored but you can choose to just sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife. There is no traffic or traffic noise. The only sounds you will hear are from wildlife and the laughter you will hear from your happy family. Enjoy!!

Beyond Awesome

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is absolutely awesome. Susan has forgotten nothing in the cabin as far as amenities. If you need in the kitchen it's there, if you need it in the bathroom it's there, and if you need it in the bedroom it's there. The pictures on the website don't even do the cabin justice. We absolutely love the cabin the view out of every window, and just the peace and quiet in beauty of the woods around the cabin. Before you go to Prathers for groceries, which is a store down in Fairplay about 15 minutes from the cabin, be sure to check the refrigerator, the cabinets, and the pantry. Most visitors to the cabin have left behind sugar, flour, canned goods, spices, and coffee, etc. So before you spend money on anything at the grocery store, check the cabin first. I can't say enough about what a phenomenal cabin this truly is. It is absolutely a diamond in the rough in that area. If you reserve this cabin and spend a few days here you will never regret it. We will definitely be back again. And by the way, the Internet connection in the cabin is absolutely perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much John. It was a pleasure to have your group. I am so glad you had a good time and liked Pinecone Mountain. The homeowner is wonderful and always makes changes to his home to make it better and better for renters.. I hope you can come back soon. Summer is wonderful in the Rockies. It never gets over 75 and you still need a coat at night. Regards, Susan

Private, peaceful location for family fun

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 stayed here for the week of July 12th, for our first visit to amazing Colorado. We were pleased that this cabin is as beautiful as pictured and even roomier in person. Also, it's great that it comes so well equipped from the start with shampoo/soap etc. in the bathrooms, extra toilet paper/paper towels, etc. That's really a nice thoughtful touch! We enjoyed one evening by the fire pit (the guests before us did not leave water in the buckets by the fire pit as instructed but the guys in our group made sure to refill the buckets prior to our departure, for the next guests), using the grill and the wonderful hot tub. There was always plenty of hot water for cooking, showers, and washing clothes and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare several meals. We never ended up using the wood stove but it looks lovely for colder nights. The beds are all comfortable and after some of us got past the initial insomnia associated with altitude sickness, slept very soundly. Sadly, we never ended up seeing any bear or moose, but did enjoy feeding the various birds and chipmunks around the property. The starry nights by the campfire or on the deck were AMAZING. Nothing but peace and quiet, though we did meet a couple of neighbors on morning walks and they are friendly. The location is great - not far from town but definitely set back into the scenic woods/up the mountain a bit. We are very glad that we well prepared for this major road trip by renting a 4-wheel-drive vehicle since we knew that we would be driving on unpaved mountain roads, not only here near the house, but in other areas of Colorado as well. That, along with husband's expert driving, made the parking at the house (and driving up mountains) look easy though he did back down into the drive each time in order to get out easily (it's quite an incline). We all fell in love with both Alma and Fairplay - friendly, laid-back people and some cute shops and restaurants (we enjoyed McCall's in Fairplay). Stopped at High Paw Pet Supplies in Fairplay to buy some souvenirs (treats and toys) for our cats back home in Illinois and met Andre the Giant Cat and had a little mini tour of their rescue facility (great people!). Shopped regularly at Prather's Market in Fairplay and Al-Mart. We really enjoyed an adventurous drive up to Kite Lake. Loved Montogomery Reservoir, Breckenridge, Sand Dunes Nat. Park, Garden of the Gods... Nice to have had this beautiful house as our home base while in CO. : )

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family had a blast for a week long vacation. We went down the street to Mosquito pass and drove up the 4 wheel path. My teen age boys loved the hot tub and the fire pit! We would love to come back next summer!

A beautiful mountain retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent five nights staying in this stunning mountain home. It's not a rustic log cabin by any means, but a gorgeous, new, beautifully appointed home. The furnishings and bedding are first class and the entire home had everything you would need for a stay. The owners thought of everything, even shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel in the three full bathrooms. There is a king in the master suite and the beds are all handmade of local timber and works of art. Everything you need in a kitchen is there, and the spice cabinet would satisfy any gourmet cook. Coming from a big city in the Midwest, the pine trees, pine fragrance, mountains and wildlife were feasts for the senses.

The deck includes a gas grill and a new hot tub which we enjoyed and also a fire pit with seating in the back of the home. A fireplace in the living room was an added bonus for colder weather. Firewood is stacked on the deck for you to use. We enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning while feeding the birds, chipmunks and squirrels.

During our stay we visited Buena Vista for successful fly fishing, visited nearby Breckenridge for a day of shopping and dining out, and enjoyed the South Park City museum in Fairplay, just a few miles away. Heather, at the South Park Saloon in Alma, took great care of us each time we dined there. The gold and silver mining history of the area is preserved with old structures still standing, which we found so interesting and were grateful that Colorado had the foresight to maintain this historical significance.

This home is immaculate, beautifully maintained, and truly a home away from home in a sought after location in Colorado. It's quiet and secluded, but still a short drive to so many activities and outdoor adventures. We can't wait to return. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home.

Cabin was ok but...............

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was clean, some of the things I didn't like are more of a personal preference than anything else. 1st there was not a king size bed in master bedroom, unfortunately I would of liked to sit on the deck in the morning with a cup of coffee and look at the mountains, but the only thing we saw was the pines. The deck off the bedroom had somewhat of a view but not of the mountain range. The road off of 9 to our cabin must of been just graded because it was very bumpy and when we got to the cabin after grocery shopping we didn't have to scramble our eggs! If no view of the mountain range, bumpy roads and a place off the beaten path doesn't bother you, then this is a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: Gabbie, Thanks for taking the time to review our cabin. Since your stay, we have put a brand new log King bed in the master bedroom. This was planned months in advance, but we were waiting for the custom log bed frame to be completed. I must say the wait was worth it. New King bed is very comfortable and beautiful. There is now a log King bed in Master, Queen log beds in both main level and lower level bedrooms. The view off the master bedroom deck is primarily to the south. You are correct, this view is through a thick pine and Aspen forest and very private. We purchased the cabin in August of 2013 and are slowly clearing some pines on main deck side of cabin, north side, that will offer even better views of the two 14,000' peaks we can see from our cabin. We want to do this minor clearing carefully so that our very secluded and private lot remains secluded and private, but with a couple nice clearings to view these awesome peaks. This clearing will be completed this fall. Finally, you are also correct, the road into our cabin is a dirt, mountain road, but maintained on a regular basis. Most roads off the main highway in this area are dirt and probably will remain such for quite some time. This keeps traffic away and does not scare away the fabulous wildlife we are so fortunate to enjoy on a regular basis such as moose, elk, mule deer, fox and more. Stop back next summer and enjoy the changes we will continue to make to our beautiful cabin. Cheers!

Amazing serene mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is absolutely amazing! My girlfriend and I were looking to escape for a weekend and decided to book Pinecone Mountain Cabin. We couldn't be happier with our decision, the cabin in cozy, well decorated, and incredibly clean! We arrived when the weather was about 50 degrees and sunny. After getting situated we decided to explore the property where there was plenty of animal life and birds to observe. There is a fox that we ran into a few times, really cool! For dinner we headed into downtown Alma and grabbed some local food at the South Park Saloon, great pizza! That evening as the temperature dropped we took to the relaxing hot tub and enjoyed the peace and quiet of mountain life.

We woke up on day 2 to 5 inches of fresh snow and much colder temperatures. We sat down by the wood burning fire place with a cup of coffee and enjoyed the great views from inside the cabin, there are plenty of windows throughout the 3 floors. During the rest of the day we played ping pong in the lower level, enjoyed the game table upstairs and went in the hot tub once again as the snow fell around us. What a perfect cabin, we will be going back this summer without a doubt. You can tell the owners really care for this property, best I've been to in the Rockies!

In the summer you will be in the center of all activities including old mine ruins, Montgomery Reservoir, Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Bross, Mt. Quandry and many more. Fairplay (just 10 miles away) is the activity center of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and is often referred to as the Base Camp for all activities some of which include hiking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, ice climbing, fishing, hunting, rafting, 4-wheeling, ATVing, mine exploring, canoeing, kayaking, and much much more. Alma is only 5 minutes away and offers dining, shopping, and entrances to some of the most beautiful drives in Colorado such as Kite Lake, Bristlecone Pines, and Mosquito Pass, and the trailheads to many of the famous fourteeners. Summer ATVing in this area is fabulous. You will be near trails that lead all the way to Leadville with lots of old mines to explore. If you can think of an outdoor activity, you will probably find it within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. It is a great home to call your 'Base Camp'. This is a beautiful home to spend any season of the year. The access is easy and 4-wheel drive is not required in the summer.
