I'm a realtor and avid golfer and wish I could spend more time in Tambor. My wife is from Costa Rica and she always wanted to have a place where everyone could have fun while I was out at the golf course.
Michael Schubert purchased this villa in 2007
My family vacationed at this development several times before we bought here. We fell in love with the tropical setting, cobblestone streets, uncrowded beach, and unlimited amenities nearby.
Don't miss the ATV tours!! Secluded beaches and hidden private waterfalls. The day trip by boat to Tortuga Island is a can't miss either. Beautiful white sand beaches with lunch and drinks included.
My wife and I stayed here for a few days after spending 6 days in Montezuma, and absolutely loved it. The villa itself isn't really anything fancy, but it is clean, in very good condition, and has a great location!
The kitchen had everything one could need, including a fridge, freezer, and microwave. We also took advantage of having a clothes washer and dryer, so that was a nice plus. The internet worked great too. There is 24/7 security within the community, and we easily made friends that we shared some meals with.
It's less than a 10 minute walk to the sand or to the clubhouse/store/pool. The beach is a protected bay, so there aren't any waves. It's also soft sand, so you can stroll or run for miles in either direction. The community is fairly isolated, so you should be ready to rent a car or grab a cab or take an excursion or something if you want to explore.
I played golf and enjoyed the course. The wildlife within Los Delfines is pretty amazing as well- monkeys, iguanas, all kinds of birds (and lots of them!). We even saw a few deer.
I would definitely recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay in the area. We liked it a lot, and would recommend it to a friend.
Los Delfines is great. It's quite isolated from the more developed areas, and Playa Tambor is perfect for kids--sand bottom, and good waves to play in. Tons of wildlife all around--maccaws everywhere, howler monkeys, iguanas, etc. Super-quiet location. The house was very nice, and having washer and dryer (not common) really helped. My wife and I visited Los Delfines in 2000, and while it's more developed now, the occupancy has to be less than 50% due to location, making it a perfect, quiet family place.
This is a very nice place and great location to visit many tourist attractions. The condo is nice, safe and quiet. The property itself needs some improvements. The laundry machine doesn't work as well as the plumbing on the patio. The pans are wore out. There was only one set of towels that were insufficient considering a beach location.
The condo was clean and well stocked. It was private and backed up to the golf course. There were howler monkeys and scarlet macaws.
The Internet was on and off, irregularly, but the owner was responsive to the problem.
The pool and club house was nice, with reasonable food and a small store to buy food.
The beach is mellow, large and quiet.
This is a villa in a private condo, with its own golf course and private access to the beach. The villa itself was comfortable for the stay there. It might be small for four people spending too much time in there, particularly because it does not have a pool of its own. There is a pool at about 200mts away. The complex has a small market with the basic stuff (a little overpriced), and if you have a car, you can drive 15-20 mins to a town center to go into bigger grocery stores and other services. There is a restaurant with reasonable prices. The golf course can be used, but I did not see nor ask for car rentals. The beach is around 400mts away from the villa, and the beach is stunning. The beach is clean, no stones in the sand and the see is usually calm and no dangerous currents because of being in a closed bay. There are wildlife to entertain the view as well: red macaws, monkeys, iguanas, urracas, sea gulls and other birds. Brink bug repellent if you plan on going out to the green areas. The villa has the basic stuff to cook and enough utensils for four people. Bring your own toiletries (shampoo and soap), towels are included.
This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Los Delfines. The condo was neat and clean, serving as a great home base for our explorations. We were able to walk to the beach and the development was very nice and well maintained. We had a couple of meals in the restaurant, which were good. The residents are very friendly, and we even made a few friends. We also enjoyed the surrounding areas - canopy tour in Montezuma, boat ride to Isla Tortuga, surfing at Mal Pais or Santa Teresa, local nature reserves (Curu) and the like. We would certainly recommend the condo for anyone interested in visiting the area. Mike was vey helpful and provided many tips for traveling to the area.
A couple of recommendations: The kitchen was not as well-appointed as other VRBOs (could use a better BBQ, a few good cutting knives, a few new pots/pans - one pot was missing it's handle -- a salad bowl). There was only one hand towel for two bathrooms, so we would recommend having a couple of additional hand towels. None of these drawbacks would cause us not to return to this rental, though. It was a good value for the price and we would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Additional advice: If you fly into San Jose (Alejuela) and decide to rent a car (and take the ferry to Paquera, then drive to Los Delfines - about 35 minutes), go to the super Wal-Mart or some store like Costco to stock up on basic food items/supplies, as the stores in the area are a little pricey and have limited selection.
Ladies, This place, is located near the Barceló Hotel, where you can schedule a full day at the spa, get a massage, a facial, and enjoy your day, while your husbands are at the golf course.
