This Garden District location features a well appointed large, secured, house off St. Charles Ave. (lake side) and street car line. Truly, this home is located in one of New Orleans most desired neighborhoods. Restaurants, coffee shops, streetcar stop, Mardi Gras parades, towering live oaks and much more in New Orleans is right outside your door. The home is completely remodeled with an open floor plan. A large dining table can seat 12 people. Additional dining space is outdoors. Gated parking for two cars is available.

We have hosted numerous wedding groups, families in town hosting a wedding, or families and friends attending weddings.

The living area and each bedroom have a television with both digital antennas and Roku boxes which include free Netflix access and other streaming channels. Home finishes include stained concrete floors, outdoor cooking area, courtyard, and gated off street parking for two cars. All amenities provide you with many options for entertaining and relaxing. Families are especially welcome. This unit and the separate unit above ( Property ID 677493) are each approximately 2200 square feet.

The French Quarter is a 2 1/2 mile streetcar or taxi ride from our home. Along the streetcar route is the National World War II Museum and the Audubon Park Zoo.

Sleeping accommodations present several options. The master suite includes a queen size bed, t.v, spacious en suite bath with a double vanity, large, rain shower, and private toilet. Bedroom 2 includes a queen size bed and t.v.-- a half bath is in the hallway across from Bedroom 2. Bedroom 3 features a large, custom wet bar, seating and t.v., as well as two twin beds (one pop up trundle). This bedroom includes an en suite full bath. Finally, the living room sofa offers additional sleep space with a queen size sofa bed. A family would have much space to accommodate children. (A portable play yard and mattress are available upon request.)

About Karen Bertel

My name is Karen, and Mike, my son, owns this lovely home in the Garden District. When Mike was five, we moved from New Orleans and lived in Black Forest, Colorado, for almost 22 years. Now, New Orleans is home for both of us. I am a retired assistant principal, English teacher, and librarian. I help Mike manage the rental of his home and assure that guests have a positive VRBO stay.

In case you are wondering about the portrait of an English bulldog in the dining area, that is Todd, Mike's English bulldog. When Mike moved from Sixth St., Todd moved in with my husband and me along with our rescue boxer/pit bull and German shepherd.

While this mid century home is located among historical, old houses, we are enamored with its open living plan and lush courtyard garden. Mike completely gutted the lower unit in 2009, so the house has a new, casual vibe--one that invites relaxing with family and friends either inside or outside.

What makes this house unique

Our home in the Garden District is the perfect house for friends and family to enjoy New Orleans. Before Mike moved to another house, we enjoyed many family and friend gatherings in the beautiful courtyard and living area. I think you will love the relaxing vibe of Mike's apartment.

The streetcar is just 50+ yards away from the front gate, so our guests can easily travel to the French Quarter or downtown area. For those guests visiting over Mardi Gras, we are steps away from the parade route. Finally, our upper unit (677493) can be booked simultaneously, so families/friend groups attending weddings or other reunions can remain in close proximity.


Car: not necessary

St Charles Ave, Garden District, Street Car and everything New Orleans has to offer is right outside your door. Commander's Palace is a five minute walk. St. Charles streetcar stop is at the corner and can take you to the French Quarter and other attractions. Coffee shops, grocery stores, bars, restaurants all are within a five minute walk. Magazine St shopping and restaurants are a 10 minute walk through the beautiful Garden District. Our home is two blocks from the Elms Manor.

Beautiful apartment. Awesome location and hospitality !

We LOVED the place. would stay here again in a heartbeat ! the courtyard was lovely. we loved the concrete floors and double shower heads. adjustable sound system in every room and even outside on the patio. only a few steps from the trolley and a few blocks from magazine st. The owners were super nice and hospitable. Everything you could possibly wish for in a vacation. A beautiful home and visit !

Perfect place to enjoy New Orleans

This place is perfect! We were there for my daughter’s wedding. Loved the open floor plan. The courtyard was perfect for drinking coffee in the morning and recovering from the night before. Added bonus was the great coffee shop right down the street. We will definitely be back and will recommend this place to all our friends.

Amazing property

This property was perfect for a family wedding in the Garden District. Our daughter was married at the Ogden and we were able to house several family members and friends at these 2 properties (first and second floor). We were able to have a wonderful welcome party on Friday and Brunch on Sunday. The property was very well maintained and the cabinets were well stocked with lots of extras. It was a great surprise to have coffee, sugar and cream as well as lots of other extras. Every person who came to visit us gushed over the beauty and location of this property. Karen was kind and accommodating, the instructions in the unit were great, no questions about how to run the remote! We would rent this again if the opportunity presents itself!!!

Amazing apartment! Wonderful stay!

We rented for a gathering of friends who have not seen each other in years. We also convened because we lost one of our group in February. Her wish was to have ashes scattered in various part of New Orleans. We did that. Karen was kind enough to reserve the amazing patio so we could have a private memorial service with friends who came in for the gathering. The apartment is very spacious with every amenity you would expect in a place like this, including coffee! Karen is a wonderful host and answered all our questions in a timely manner. The proximity to the St. Charles Trolley makes this a wonderful place to stay. I highly recommend it and I hope to stay there again in the future.

Beautiful place and great location

We had a great stay in this beautiful home. The streetcar stop was right there, as was a great bakery/coffee shop. We loved the back patio area and the awesome kitchen. Karen was very accommodating with items for the baby. The neighborhood is lovely too. If you are sensitive to noise of people walking overhead, then consider renting the upstairs unit instead. We would stay here again!

Great location! Safe! Convenient to Trolley stop!

This rental (and the unit above) were rented for a mini-reunion for a group of 12 (6 in each unit). The units were well-equipped and the owner provided a good deal of information to help us navigate around the area. Upon arrival, one of our group, inadvertently left the hatchback open on his car. The security guard identified the owner and notified us (almost immediately). We felt very safe in this area after that. We used UBER to get to most of our destinations and found that the drivers arrived within 3-5 minutes to take us to the French Quarter, Frenchman St., etc. Of course, the food in NOLA is great, and we found some good restaurants within walking distance, but be on the lookout for uneven sidewalks.
