Why Jean Phillips chose Bolivar Peninsula

My mother owned a home on this lot that was destroyed by hurricane IKE. She decided not to rebuild. She allowed me to take possesion of this property and build a home that we could all enjoy again. I am happy to share it with others so they can make great memories like my family has.

What makes this house unique

This home has a large partially covered porch so you can either lay in the sun and work on your tan or sit back in the shade and sip a glass of wine. Either way you have a beautiful view of the beach from all angles. The open concept floor plan allows you to spend your vacation enjoying your family and friends. When it is time to rest you can lay in the bed and still enjoy the beautiful ocean view.

Absolutely a beautiful View and home.

Would highly recommend this rental. Very well maintained and so comfy, you can hear the waves as you lay in the big king size bed. I only wish the weather would have been better. If you are planning a trip to the coast this is the place to stay for sure! ❤️

The beach house was an awesome place the view is incredible the access to the beach is perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Everything went smoothly as I was told. If I had anything negative to say the place could have been cleaner and a few things to be repaired. I did book at the last minute maybe they didn't have time for fine tuning. I will go back, it was very enjoyable!! I highly recommend this property for an enjoyable time on Bolivar Peninsula.

The best vacation we have ever had!

  • 5 of 5

We have been on may vacations (river, cruises, Disney etc). My kids said this was the best vacation ever. The house was wonderful and we loved the layout. The location is top notch and couldn't have been any better. You can sit on the porch and see the kids playing in the sand/ocean. During the week most of the time the only people on the beach for a mile each way. On Friday and Saturday it picked up but not at all crowed, we saw 5 other families within miles. Lots of room to between and you don't feel crowded. The beach is beautiful and sea shells and sea glass glore! The house set up was great and we LOVED the downstairs shower to rinse off after the beach. There was a lovely local Christian owned restaurant that has yummy reasonably priced foods. Also the little grocery store carries evething you need and the prices were good too.

Jean was amazing with communication and very accommodating. The power went out after a storm that effected the whole island for 7 hours and she responded with the power company contact info and was very helpful. Overall 5 star for sure! We will be returning. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with us.

Steps from the beach- couldn't be any closer

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It's right on the beach, with only a residential street between the beach and the house. The large front deck was a great place to enjoy the sound of the ocean, watch the sunrise, and watch our teens while they enjoyed the beach. There were two loungers, two folding camping chairs, and a plastic beach chair. There was also a round wooden table and a storage bench (which had several boogie boards in it, which was nice).

Downstairs, there is a picnic table, a small charcoal grill, a water hose, and an outdoor shower (a must have!). There was plenty of space to hang out. There was only one close neighbor next door, so it felt very secluded and quiet.

The water was a bit treacherous. There is some type of wood or trees that can't always be seen. Several members of our party had minor injuries from the wood when they were slammed into it from the waves. That part wasn't so fun. Not the fault of the owner, of course, but you need to be aware of it so you can try to spot where they are in low tide and avoid them. We tried, but we failed and still had injuries.

The kitchen had plenty of storage and was fairly well stocked. The Wifi is weak, and we were not able to watch Netflix except late at night when fewer people were probably online (think it's DSL). So, that was an issue for us. The washing machine had a mildew smell, but clothes came out smelling fine. It probably needs a vinegar rinse, though. The dryer is a workhorse, though, and dries clothing and towels well.

The two main negatives for us were that the one bedroom had a door meant to be used on an exterior, so if we kept in closed at night (which we wanted to, with noisy teen girls in the other part of the house), the room got very hot and we had trouble sleeping. There wasn't enough air flow with the door closed at night. The second issue was the lack of comfortable seating. There is a couch and loveseat, which the teens took over. Other than that, it's two hard kitchen chairs, 2 director's chairs, and 3 director's chair style barstools- they did not feel sturdy enough for adults. I missed having a real table to eat at, or at least more (and stronger) seating at the large island and more comfortable seating, like armchairs.

One safety issue: the charcoal grill is falling apart. It was precariously standing, and we were afraid it would tip over any second. That probably needs to be repaired or replaced.
