About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

This quiet, woodsy, oceanfront cottage could not be closer to the water or have better views! The path to the property's private beach is just steps from the deck! Waterlily Cottage is perfect for couples honeymooning or celebrating an anniversary, or anyone just getting away for a lovely, coastal vacation. Families with one small child have also enjoyed this quaint, comfortable, and tastefully decorated cottage. Though the setting is at the end of a private, well maintained dirt road, the property is close to all that Mt. Desert Island has to offer, (5 minutes to Acadia National Park!) and is a short distance to downtown Bar Harbor (5 minutes beyond the National Park entrance.) We are proud of preserving the 1930's charm of Waterlily, while making sure that modern comforts are secured. Enjoy amazing views from the king size bed, which is dressed with high quality bedding and is so comfortable that past guests have contacted us to ask about the brand of mattress! The small but mighty kitchen is intentionally stocked with items to make sure your kitchen time isn't a chore: high quality cookware, sharp knives, a french press AND a drip coffee maker, microwave, blender, toaster, and everything you need for home based lobster bakes! For grilling types, we've provided a propane grill (with an extra tank and all necessary grill tools) on the deck, so that you can enjoy cooking with a view. While this is a great place to unplug, there are 2 TVs equipped with cable, and high speed wifi internet which is fast enough for you to stream your favorite shows and movies on your tablet or laptop. We've made sure that the seating in the living room is super comfy and inviting, with ample lighting for readers and knitters.

Waterlily Cottage is part of Queen Anne's Cottages, which is an eco-friendly, pet friendly, mini-resort type property. Each of the 3 cottages have their own personality, privacy, wifi network, parking, recycling, and specific amenities. Guests from all 3 cottages can share the gorgeous, large, solar heated, salt water pool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), a lovely oceanside fire pit, and the property's private beach. If you are booking well in advance, several families have rented 2 or all 3 of the cottages for their week long family vacations/reunions. Our other VRBO/Homeaway listing numbers are: Sea Heather Cottage- 352349 (lodging for up to 8-10 guests) and Rugosa Cottage - 389528 (great for a couple, or a family of 4-5.) Additionally, you can search for Queen Annes Cottages online, to find our website for more information about the property (VRBO does not allow us to include the link here).

Whether planning a family vacation or a getaway for 2, we would love to be your choice for a beautiful, comfy, and fun spot to stay while exploring and relaxing on Mt Desert Island!

About Chelcey Dunham

We live in Bar Harbor year round with our 3 children, dog, and 2 cats. We feel lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, and are happy to share it with others!

Chelcey Dunham purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Chelcey Dunham chose Bar Harbor

This property is all of the above: woodsy/quiet/private, close to town (10 minute drive), super close to Acadia National Park (5 minute drive), and has amazing views of Eastern Bay! Past guests have loved the short distance to quiet, comfy solitude after a day in town or on the trails. As part of our eco-friendly efforts, we rely on natural, chemical free cleaning products, including irritant-free, plastic free, and organic "soap berries" (look it up! you'll love them!) for our laundry detergent. Our plastic-free garbage bags are compostable, and our recycling program is well established and easy to use. We also donate all proceeds from bottle and can redemption to our local SPCA.

What makes this cottage unique

We can spot on any given day: Bald Eagles, Deer, Porpoise, Hummingbirds, Seals, and a variety of other birds and wildlife. Kids and adults alike LOVE the huge, solar heated, saltwater pool. We are pet friendly and pet safe (at the end of a dirt road!), and our pets are more than happy to befriend you (if you like) when you find yourself missing your pets at home.

Excellent. The cottage pictures and write up are as advertised. Very cute. Very clean. Easy in/out/parking. Everything working and in good condition. Deck overlooks the ocean bay. From our deck, We were privileged to see pods of porpoises, seals, lobstermen, kingfishers, osprey, other wildlife. Location as advertised. On the ocean bay, minutes from Acadia National Park. Just lovely.

Beautiful cottage doesn't disappoint

  • 5 of 5

This is just a lovely place to stay, one you will loathe leaving. Seeing the beautiful waters and skies colored by both the sunrise and the sunset from every room is a treat. While two other cottages are nearby, it does very much provide the feeling of being away from it all...what I love best. Chelcey has thought of every detail to make your stay a pleasant one. The kitchen is smartly organized and labeled. Everything you need and nothing you don't. No digging through thousands of old utensils and dull knives. In fact, this condo boasts the sharpest paring knife of any place I've ever stayed (sometimes it's the little things that matter). I also appreciated the wealth of pre-arrival information provided to help in planning our trip. We followed many of Chelcey's recommendations and did not go wrong. We spent most of our time in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and the location of this cottage was perfect. Though the weather during our stay tended toward foggy, cloudy, and cooler, we had to try out the beautiful pool for a short bit on one of the warmer days. Water was tolerable but we didn't want to stay too long. If only there were sunshine guarantees. There is simply nothing like Bar Harbor and Acadia beneath blue skies and the sparkle of the sun. One can't help to be greedy for more of it. We would love to come again some day. Thanks for a great 20th anniversary stay.

Wonderful places to stay

  • 5 of 5

The properties were everything we dreamed of. The views were spectacular. Both homes were nicely decorated and very comfortable. The amenities were as described. We all enjoyed the pool after mornings of hiking. We were close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. All in all, we would highly recommend these properties to stay at.

Refreshing week on the Maine Coast

  • 5 of 5

Three well-maintained, cozy, charming cottages at the end of a quiet dirt road offer a spectacular view over Frenchman's Bay, access to the beach, and a great jumping-off point for day-trips to Acadia National Park or around Mount Desert Isle. After adventures, this is a great place to return to for an evening on the deck or at the fire pit. We grilled, cooked lobster in the well-provided kitchen, took long walks along the shore, and enjoyed the autumnal smell of the piney woods. Local sites and restaurants were within easy striking distance. Pet-friendly. Owners are very responsive and friendly. We will be back next year!

A wonderful time at a beautiful cottage !

  • 5 of 5

The Water Lilly cottage was fantastic and the property was exactly as described. We spent a week here in September and were extremely happy. It was perfect for my wife and I and was in close proximity to Acadia NP, Bar Harbor and all the area attractions and restaurants. The property was very clean, well maintained and in a perfect location with great views of the water, especially at sunset. We were able to view seals, dolphins, bald eagles and sea birds of all types right from the comfort of our deck that overlooks the private beach and we especially enjoyed evenings by the fire pit area that overlooks the same, beautiful shoreline. We enjoyed hiking the many trails in and around Acadia and riding our bicycles on the miles of carriage roads. For first timers to the Mount Desert Island area and Maine, it was perfect for us and exceeded our expectations. We would definitely come back and would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable location with great views, all within easy driving distance of the beauty of Acadia and Bar Harbor, ME.
