Fisher-persons, and outdoor-persons delight!
A beautiful log home, located on the Madison river. Breathtaking views from every window, porch, and deck! The kitchen was well equip, with nice, new appliances. The beds were very comfortable, (a few extra blankets would make it even better!)
The house was a nice distance from Yellowstone which we visited twice and saw elk, buffalo, a black bear, and even a wolf!
The town of Ennis is SUPER cute with lots of restaurants and cute shops. The boys in our group (including my 4 year old who was gifted a rainbow trout cookie) loved the Beartooth Fly Shop right down the road.
My only "complaint" is that we would have loved shades to cover the master windows it may have helped our "early riser" children not wake up extra early, but I suppose that helps us get to our prime fishing spot! A gem in Montana. We have gone to Colorado for years, but the view here? Colorado on Steroids.
Sky, stars, trout, eagles, mountains, rivers and Yellowstone too!
Perfect getaway and base for adventure. Great log cabin home with plenty of room for large family to relax and rejuvenate, Plenty of things to do and see within reasonable distance (in Montana terms) from this home base. Virginia City, Glacier Lake, Yellowstone and Big Sky are within an hour drive. Fish on the Madison River right outside the back door of the house, or get a guide to float you down past the house on one of the best trout fly fishing rivers in the US. Hike, horseback or drive on the plateaus or into the mountains surrounding you. Watch the sunrise over one mountain range in the morning and watch it set in full color in the evening while enjoying your beverage of choice on the spacious deck. Then stay out to enjoy the Milky Way, planets, and plethora of stars that can only truly be appreciated in Montana...there's a reason why it's known as big sky country. And if you're lucky enough to have a lightening storm roll through while you're there, you are treated to nature's fireworks. Follow the paths of bald eagles, hawks, ospreys, pelicans, herons and other birds as they cruise along the river or soar in their thermal updrafts. And plenty of other animals great and small are just waiting for you to notice them. You can't find a better place to start from, and return to, while you discover Montana, Yellowsone, and the Rockies.
Great vacation cabin
This was my 1st VRBO and it was so much more than I expected. The owners were very welcoming. The views are incredible; we spotted pelicans and avocets roosting on the gravel bar mid river and deer wandering up from the bank. The gourmet kitchen was well stocked. The dining room table was big enough to be able to set up a 1000 piece puzzle at the end and still have room for the 4 of us to eat. The rooms and beds were comfortable. The mud room made a great place to dry waders and gear after fishing. The "cabin" is located close enough to Yellowstone for day trips and also to the picturesque town of Ennis and to Quake Lake. There is a great fly shop, The Beartooth, nearby and an excellent local restaurant, The Grizzly Bar & Grill (closed Tuesdays). We should have eaten out more often. The rental was excellent value compared to renting 2 hotel rooms in West Yellowstone for a week. PS, the fishing was terrific.
Million dollar views, beautiful property, great location
We rented this property to be close to Yellowstone, but also wanted to see what else the area had to offer. The house was beautiful and perfectly maintained. Beds were great, and the view from every room in the house was breathtaking. We even learned much about the surrounding area from the owners who stopped by to make sure everything was just right and discovered some great places to visit including Ennis, Virginia City and Bozeman which was quite closer than we thought. We also realized quickly how great the stretch of the Madison river was for flyfishing right out the back door which we took full advantage of. We had stayed in West Yellowstone before and were glad to be out of a busy tourist town. After having stayed in West Yellowstone for another trip, we were thrilled to have so many great places to eat within a short drive from the house. The Grizzly Bar & Grill which is appearently a favorite of the locals and visiting fly fishing enthusiasts had some amazing food, and the town of Ennis had great shops & restarants; even really good Chinese food. Our kids were were constantly surprised by the wildlife they spotted from the deck including elk, geese, deer, coyotes, eagles and the craziest site was a wedge of swans that flew right over our heads as we were headed to dinner late one afternoon. On the way to Yellowstone from the house, don't miss stopping at the Quake Lake visitor center which was a favorite with our kids and was also fascinating to us as well.
The owners were great to work with, we had a wonderful time during our stay and would highly recomend this property.
A Room with a View... Lots of Room and REALLY BIG views!
More than we expected in so many ways! Can't say enough about our stay. We have been to Montana many times before, but this location had it all. From the comfortable and cozy, yet rustic cabin to the majestic sunsets that never seemed to end, it was by far our best experience. Very secluded but in the center of everything we wanted to do. Fishing is and hiking is right out the front door and Yellowstone Park a short picturesque drive away. Truly defines why they call it Big Sky. And great restaurants nearby, including our favorite Grizzly Bar & Grill, featuring a wine list that you only expect "in the City" and food to match. I'd love to keep it a secret, but too awesome not to share.... We plan to be back with friends soon. Thanks for sharing your home!! - Cathy & John McCune
