Crescent Beach Cottage - Luxury, Waterfront, Near Eastsound

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Cottage + Guest House, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Crescent Beach Cottage is a beautiful, hand-crafted, European-style cottage plus small guest house affectionately named “the Outback” directly across the street from the best walking beach on Orcas Island, and just a short walk from the picturesque village of Eastsound. Built by one of the best custom homes builders on the island, the cottage is truly heaven on earth. Reclaimed beams from Wisconsin, French doors from Singapore, teak floors, and a mix of contemporary and European antique furnishings create a warm and welcoming feeling the moment you enter the cottage. Stunning views from every window let in light and magic. Enjoy the fragrant, flower-filled garden, relax on the patio overlooking the pond and bird sanctuary behind the cottage, or watch the waves on the beach from the living room and dining room.

The main Cottage, with one queen bedroom and a twin fold-out chair in a nook off of the bedroom, sleeps 3 and is an ideal destination for memorable vacations and celebrations, or quiet retreats. The owner has furnished the cottage with beautiful art and comfortable furniture meant to be lived in and loved. The living room is a welcoming place to sit and talk, read a book or watch TV or DVD’s. The galley kitchen adjoins the living room and is an ideal space to create meals with all the appliances and amenities needed to cook up something wonderful. The dining room is a great place to enjoy a meal or write your best-selling novel as it looks directly onto the beach. The spacious master bedroom features a queen bed and a wood burning stove, flanked by leather armchairs and ottomans. A small study off the master bedroom is the perfect place to curl up with a book or simply watch the wildlife in and around the pond. The study also has a large comfy chair that folds out into a twin bed.

There’s a high definition 33” plasma flat panel TV (basic channels), DVD player, high speed wireless internet, a CD player with CD library and I-Pod docking speaker system. A smaller TV is in the master bedroom.

If you have a larger party than 3, a separate guest house (The Outback), connects to the main cottage by a flagstone patio and sleeps 2 featuring a bedroom with a queen bed, dresser, bedside table, small TV, and a large bathroom. The Outback provides an ideal, private escape for a second couple, friends or family members you'd like to bring along, including children who are old enough to sleep in a close but separate building. The Outback rents for an additional $100/night.

In front of the cottage is a gorgeous, long walking beach. Watch storms in winter, beach comb for treasures year-round, build driftwood sculptures, wiggle your sand in the toes. The only other building on your beach is a kayak rental property, very handy if you’d like to kayak.

Behind the cottage, you’re in a bird-watcher’s paradise, looking onto a large pond and wetland, with the resident Blue Heron, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Kingfishers, all manner of ducks, coots, loons, grebes, and of course, eagles. The patio provides a magical place to grill a steak, veggies, or salmon or simply sit on the glider and watch the teeming bird life on and around the pond.

We are family friendly! The yard and garden are fenced. A charming garden shed can be used as a drinks center if you throw a party.

Crescent Beach Cottage is non-smoking, and consists of the main Cottage and the Outback which combined have two (2) bedrooms with Queen beds, two (2) full baths, plus a cozy study with a large chair that folds out into a twin bed. Sleeps 4-5.

About Jennifer Brewer, Property Manager

I built a tree house on Orcas Island - okay, I HAD it built - and now spend my time between the tree house and my home in Seattle. Every time I drove past the cottage on Crescent Beach, I wondered who the lucky people were who lived there. When I learned that the owner was moving to Canada, I jumped on it!

Jennifer Brewer, Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Jennifer Brewer, Property Manager chose Eastsound

I've always loved building or finding enchanting places and making them even more enchanting. The cottage was and is beyond enchanting all by itself and I loved furnishing it with treasures both local and international, so that it is luxurious without being 'precious', if you know what I mean. It's a put-your-feet-up kind of place, with panache! I love it and want to share it with you.

What makes this cottage unique

As a writer, I find the light that floods the cottage from its many windows soul-nourishing. As a lover of all things wild, the beach out front and the nature preserve and pond in back of the cottage grounds me. And it's so great to walk to the Saturday Market in Eastsound, wander the shops, have lunch at one of Eastsound's many excellent restaurants, then return to the cottage for coffee, tea, or wine. What's not to love?!

This is a lovely property with amazing views of the beach in front and a nature preserve with pond in back. The location is within walking distance of Eastsound but still quiet and secluded. We saw deer and many birds. Inside, you couldn't ask for a more comfortable, well appointed home. We had everything that we needed and more. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets. Plenty of comfy seating. We didn't use them but beach chairs and towels are available. There is a HUGE bathtub which was great for soaking. My two favorite places in this home were the back deck and the bird watching room off of the bedroom. We hated to leave this cottage but reality beckoned. I could go on but the word PERFECT says it all. Thanks for sharing your cottage, Susan.

A magical place!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is a gem of a home. Not only is the location amazing between the beach to the front and a wildlife preserve to the back, it’s decorated right out of a magazine. It has all the amenities you could want and more, including plenty of parking, electric heating, a sauna, surround sound and the outback cottage. The property manager is extremely kind. We locked ourselves out, late at night on a Friday night, and her husband came and let us in. It was just a coincidence they were on the island and I felt terrible because they had an early ferry. Despite this, they were kind and pleasant about our self-imposed dilemma. We could not have asked for a better, more beautiful, quiet and lovely place to stay.

Picture Perfect Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We came here for a week for our 25th wedding anniversary vacation in September. The cottage is in the perfect location in East Sound, beautiful bay views out front and a nature preserve in the backyard. Utterly peaceful. There is a road right out front that runs along the bay and into town, but it's not that busy. The cottage is the perfect size for 2-4 people, we never used the Outback other than to borrow an extra pillow. Everything is well decorated and of high quality. I loved the reading porch off of the master bedroom, it was the perfect spot in the morning to enjoy my coffee, watch deer, Canada geese and grey herons and read while my husband still slept. The dining room was the perfect spot in the evening to watch the sky change to pink and enjoy the tide coming in. Everything was lovely. If I had to be critical and nitpick anything, which is difficult, it would be that the bushes out front are too high to see the bay clearly from the furniture in the living room, which sits quite low. The view is better in the dining room. Also, the shower in the main house is exceptionally small with the type of fabric shower curtain that grabs onto you and won't let go. The master bed is a queen, so if you're used to a CA King, it's snuggle-up time! Those would be my only suggestions where a small change could be made, but it's hard to complain about near perfection. We would love to be able to come again in the future as the island is spectacular, the restaurants and shops were lovely and the cottage was home, if only for a magical week.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review, April. I'm so glad you had a lovely time. We can certainly improve the shower curtain! The trees (not shrubs) out front might not survive a drastic pruning but I will look into it.

Location could not be any better!

  • 5 of 5

Right across from a lovely beach and an easy walk to Eastsound, we had a wonderful, relaxing time. As we had a 15 month old with us, we also loved that she and her parents could stay in the outback enabling a good night's sleep for us. Would stay at this cottage again.

Charming Cottage near the water

  • 5 of 5

We shared this cottage with another couple, and it was perfect. From the dining and living rooms, we had beautiful views of the water, and from The Outback & the patio, there was a lovely view of the pond and nature reserve. We saw ducks, geese & herons as well as deer. We would have used the lovely patio more if it had been warmer. And we found the notes left by the owner very helpful - especially the one for the whale watching tour. It was a great experience. Hope to be able to go back.
