Why The Owner chose New York

This is our country home, built to our specifications, exactly where we wanted to be. The Catskill Mountains gave birth to the Hudson River School of painters beginning a long history as a vibrant center for the arts. As home to the New York City watershed and the Catskill Forest Preserve, it is an area of unmatched natural resources. To spend time in this still-to-be-discovered place, is to fall in love with a unique and enduring landscape.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The special peace and quiet of the setting and the spacious and tranquil comfort of the house make it a place of personal restoration and rejuvenation.

House was perfect. Large, clean, bright, very private and had all the amenities you could want, including a gym and sauna. Driveway up to the house was great for a morning walk. Decks were large and views of the mountains facing west were beautiful. Enclosed porch was great for morning coffee. We have rented 5 different houses in the Woodstock area, and this was our favorite so far.

Wow! Gorgeous home with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing stay at the Shostal's beautiful modern cabin home, located in a secluded little hamlet on Mt. Tremper. The communication with Claude has been great from the beginning, he was clear and detailed. The house was so spacious, airy, super clean, and cozy, with the most charming and tasteful details. The amenities are great, particularly the chef's kitchen, the grand fireplace in the living room, and the sauna. The caretaker, Robin, was extremely helpful and was available for our calls. The mountain views are spectacular and creates a beautiful storybook ambience. We had the best holiday here and will definitely would love to book this place again.

PS: Make sure to look up in the guest's water closet in the hallway for a cute surprise. 🐦𙠊

Perfect stay.

  • 5 of 5

We were so appreciative to Claude for opening his beautiful home to us! The house was designed in a way that the surrounding landscape was always present, from the breathtaking views from the great room to the views from the bedrooms. Not only was the house incredibly spacious, but the design drew everyone in the magnificent great room around the fire for some wonderful evenings. The sauna was a great touch after some strenuous hiking and running on the nearby trails. We held Thanksgiving there, and it was such a pleasure to cook dinner in their beautiful kitchen, enjoying the views of distant mountains. I cannot praise this house enough. Truly remarkable.

Christmas 2015

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, relaxing Christmas at your lovely home! Unseasonably warm temperatures allowed us to spend time on the decks and view the majestic setting. Spacious, clean (big, fluffy towels--a plus), and equipped with virtually every need imaginable. we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Thank you for the supply of firewood (fun with games in the evenings), and your quick response to my messages (including our lost ring that was later found). It was a very special visit.

Perfect Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here with another couple over Thanksgiving this year, and could not have picked a better property. The listing and amenities were just as described, and we were not wanting for anything over our three night stay. The significant deck space was perfect for morning coffee, reading a book, or evening cocktails as the sun set over the mountains directly through the clearing. The house is full of windows (floor to ceiling, skylights, etc.) that made it feel like we were in the forest no matter which room we were in, and the next houses are so far away that privacy was never an issue (even with the leaves fallen). The large den and great fire place were easily the center of our stay (beyond the Thanksgiving dinner), and made for the perfect spot to gather with friends. We would absolutely stay here again.
