It was a fantastic home to visit! It was very peaceful. The house was spacious and beautiful. Having all of the towels, linens, spices was a huge plus. Catching crabs on the dock and watching the tide come in and out from the large screened in porch was such a great experience! There really was too many great things to list! The owner was extremely nice and helpful. With 11 people not once did anyone feel crowded. Would definitely stay here again! The only suggestions our group had was to have a little more lighting on the dock and pool area and since we came in early April we wish the pool was heated. These things did not hinder our trip, just a suggestion! Would definitely recommend staying here!
Not what we expected
We rented the house for a weekend stay to attend a wedding on Jekyll Island. The owner, Vickie was very easy to deal with when setting up our stay. However, the check in time was 4 pm and Vickie requested that we text her when we were about an hour away so she could meet us there to show us around. When we arrived (a little after the 4pm check in time) Vickie and her friend were still cleaning the inside of the house and had things spread all over the kitchen table. The inside of the house was acceptable but the upstairs air conditioning did not work. They were able to get someone out there to fix the air conditioning the next afternoon. The pump in the pool in the back yard was broken and the pool water was green and obviously unusable and unsightly. There were dead plants all over the front porch and the yard was filled with debris and large logs from trees that had been cut down and not removed. Driving up to the house there were large pot holes in the road that could not be avoided and the whole outside of the house and the large sign were weathered and worn. Some of the steps to the front porch were rotted and loose and rather dangerous. Vickie and a friend were in and out of the house the whole weekend we were there. They were in and out both while we were there and while we were away which was very strange. There seemed to be something going on in the basement as they were in and out of there a lot and the room was locked. From my understanding the house was affected by the hurricane and they had not been able to complete all the repairs that were necessary. They need to take this house off of VRBO until it has been cleaned up and repaired. At a minimum they need to update the pictures on VRBO to show the condition of the house at this time so people don't rent this house thinking it's going to look like the pictures that are currently on VRBO. We have been very pleased with houses rented from VRBO in the past but were VERY disappointed in this one.
Great Vacation home for an Extended Family vacation
My family.....siblings and their families.....decided to rent this home for our beach vacation. We are from Indiana so the marsh area around this home was beautiful. My brother-in-law loved the little crabs at low tide and seeing the different birds that it attracted. The kids enjoyed having their own bedrooms so "the cousins" could hang out...plus the pool was a great bonus for them. It is a very comfortable house and the owner goes out of her way to make sure all is well throughout your entire visit. The location is inland....but it is super easy to get to both St Simon's lsland and Jekyll Island and the ride is beautiful. We had only planned to go to St Simon's but with such easy access to Jekyll Island...we split our time up between both locations. The house is fully stocked with all the essentials. I do suggest you drive slow as you come up the private road....it is pretty bumpy but if you take it slow and easy, it is worth the drive. The whole family, kids and adults, decided this was a great place for vacation and we are glad we choose this house.
Very secluded, peaceful, and quiet. Anything we needed was about 10 minute drive away.
If your looking for peace and quiet, this is the place. My family and I spent most of our time sitting on the back porch and enjoyed the sound of nothing but nature. Most of the property was shaded by all the big beautiful trees. I've never been more relaxed on any vacation I've been on. It was less then 20 minutes to get to the beach, less then 10 minutes to shopping Plaza.
Our family truly enjoyed the property especially seeing the tide moving in and out spectacular
Peace & Quiet
Thanks Vickie for sharing your home with us. Everyone had a great RELAXING time and accommodations worked well for the 14 people we had. The general comment from my family was "how nice & quiet it was and nice to get away from city.
