Not the same conditions as expected
I have booked for 2 weeks. The owner didn't have availability for the second week, so he offer me to stay in his new home close this one with same conditions. On arrival, the house were switched, we stayed 10 days in the second house, who has only one room instead of two (we had to change our plan with friends), the house was not new, not very equipped as we expected,... We had the house we have selected (marlin casa) only at the end of our trip, this one was the one we expected, but we didnMt have it for as long as we were supposed to. A bit disapointed... The owner said to us that it was easy and close if we want to get to grocery, we don't need a car. But in fact, we would have need one.
Just the right Speed
If you're looking to unwind, this place is just the right speed (and price)! The sunset is amazing and the location (between West Bay Beach and West End Village) can't be beat. Grabbed a car at the airport, stopped by and grabbed some groceries (at the direction of our lovely hosts, Marlin and Carleen) and slipped effortlessly into the local scene. Dive boat picked us up at the end of the pier and the $3 Water Taxi was a great way to run around once the rum started flowing! The power went out on the island (as it does from time to time in developing worlds), so as long as you're not wound too tight (or forget that this is actually someone's home), you'll love this place (I actually saw giant red Macaws)!
Spring get away
The house is very nice, view is gorgeous. With the windows open for a cross breeze it wasn't really necessary to run the AC very much. Very relaxing to just lie in the hammock with a book. The kitchen is well equipped but the grill should be replaced. A few small maintainence items were taken care right away. It's not convenenient to the beach or town areas so for short stays if you want to just walk out onto the beach you should consider staying in town, but if you are staying longer and/or looking for peace and quiet I would recommend it however you may want to consider renting a car for convenience although taxis are easily available.
Beautiful caribbean house with amazing view.
I really enjoyed my stay in Roatan, the house is located very close the one of the most beautiful beaches in the island: West Bay. It is equipped with everything and offers an amazing view of the tropical landscape from any part of the house.
Great Month at Casa Marlin!
We spent a wonderful month at Casa Marlin. From the moment Marlin picked us up from the airport he was a perfect host, always smiling and pleasant. The house was very nice and arranged well with two bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms at ground level and open plan kitchen and living area upstairs. The kitchen has a new gas stove, refrigerator, microwave and toaster. The half bath on the upper level was convenient. The new ceiling fans worked well so we seldom had to run the air conditioner. Interesting pictures of Marlin's world travels decorated the walls.
A good portion of our time each day was spent on the upper level porch complete with hammocks and four new blue chairs. It was so restful looking across the canopy of trees to the expansive view of the sea. If you see a large Anole lizard, green with a blue head (we named him "Ole Blue") be sure to hand feed him a small piece of bread each afternoon. Last time we stayed right on West Bay Beach and were a little concerned about the distance from Casa Marlin. But no worries...after a few days of your leg muscles adjusting to the hills and bridge we began to really enjoy the 20 minute journey. We walked the beach to West End once but took a taxi after that.
Many heartfelt thanks to Marlin and Carleen for helping make our Roatan vacation such a memorable and fun month!!
We stayed here for 20 days & the villa was a big disappointment. I don't know when the photos were taken but it didn't look like that when we arrived. The living room furniture was shabby, no nice dining table, chairs & carpet as shown in the pictures. The table & chairs had been brought in off the deck as a substitute & were ingrained with dirt. Therefore there was no chairs to sit on outside on the deck. There were a couple of dirty folding camp chairs & when we opened them up they had holes where mice or something had chewed on them. The grill was dirty & useless as stated in the previous review. There was a great video library but no way of viewing them as there was no TV. The a/c in the living room was useless & was not working properly. There was no microwave in the kitchen as stated & shown on the web page. The fridge was not working properly & our food went bad. The only shelf in the fridge was held together with duct tape which kept collapsing when you put anything on it. The master bedroom had no curtains, only a couple of broken blinds & we found some material to pin up at the windows for privacy as the house opposite could obviously see you lying in bed. The bedroom closet had all kinds of rubbish thrown in under the stairs. After being there a week we asked for clean sheets & were told they didn't supply a change & we had to wash the dirty ones ourselves. We have travelled all over the world & have never ever had to find a laundry to get them washed & dried back the same day. The 2nd Bedroom a/c was unplugged, obviously for quite a while as it wasn't working. We complained to Marlin about the a/c & fridge & after waiting a couple of days he sent someone to try to fix it. The bedroom a/c was replaced with a new one. The fridge was fixed but only worked for a day & it was back to not working properly. No cold beer in this place! The living room a/c was not rectified & it was like living in a green house. Unfortunately on the 4th day when out in the car, it stalled & caught fire & burnt to the ground, luckily no one was hurt. We had to hire a rental as a car is a must here. This would be a really nice villa if a little bit more effort was put into it & the problems were solved. It would have been nice to sit out on the deck on decent chairs & relax with a cool drink the whole villa was a big letdown. I'm sure if all these issues were rectified, Marlin could easily increase the rates on the villa but as it is now, we would not make a return visit
My home has been happily rented steadily for the last 10 months prior to these Guests. I believe their primary issue was them burning my car to the ground, and worrying about NOT being held responsible. Beyond that, it was a matter of 4 individuals used to the UK, trying to get by in a tropical climate, where they were uncomfortable and everyone of them had stomah problems. Every issue they raised, was addressed immediately, even when somehow an outside tap had been broken and was leaking, we were out there on a Sunday night in the dark, fixing it. In the meantime, after 3 visits from a repair man, I purchased a brand new fridge, we purchased a brand new air conditioner, the day after they complained about it, the main unit was recharged and works like new, and after a Utility power surge, all ceiling fans were replaced new. This is the home where I lived full time for 5 years, but perhaps their expectations for $70/night were unattainable, without a 5 star hotel.
Zip lining (4 minute walking distance), archeological tours, Botanical Gardens, or walk or take a water Taxi (L60 or $3 US pp) to night life, white sandy beaches, massage and restaurants.
